What are your thoughts on this look?

I found this pic on a street style blog, Street Style Aesthetic, from a few months ago.

I am really *not* a fan of real fur and she does seem to be missing her pants, but nevertheless I have stared at this pic for quite some time, and find it very intriguing and inspirational. I love the layered elements, the different textures, the bold boots and bag, and her uncompromising, edgy hair. She has fully committed to this look, you know?

What do you think of it, sort of your visceral reaction? Just curious to see what others see.

Definitely UWP style but I find the lack of pants a little jarring myself. I'd wear this minus the fur coat and plus some pants. Love her hair!

I love the look if I don't look at h details, like fabrics and colors mixed and the question hanging ' is she or isn't she wearing shorts?'

I love the edgy boots, bag, and layers - wearing boots like that is one of those fashion fantasies I sometimes allow myself, but could never pull off. However, the lack of pants does accentuate the emaciated model leg that I find so troubling, because it is borderline unhealthy and moving into the territory of eating disorder illnesses. It reminds me of when I see people at the gym who obviously are suffering from eating disorders or some other illness that causes severe weight loss, and it makes me terribly sad. Sorry to ramble on and on here - this photo obviously struck a nerve with me.

Is her leg emaciated? Mine look like that and I'm far from skinny. Angelina Jolie's Oscar leg kind of freaked me out though...

I wonder how much thought went into creating this look? Was it an effortless expression of her innate coolness? I doubt it.

Ok, for a good minute all I could do was squint and try to decide if there are sorts involved somehow - I guess I'm easily distracted?

I do like the clothing items, though I personally like more of a contrast in the overall look. Aggressive on aggessive on aggressive is too much for me, personally - so I'd want softer hair and makeup for myself. It looks nice on her... kinda surprised this is a Street Style blog photo and not an Editorial shoot, but it is an interesting look.

I love the feel of this ensemble. I love the Mad Max/David Bowie look. However, the details I'm not so fond of such as the lack of pants, the low mohawk hair, the real fur, etc. I think there's edgy and then there's just silly and this veers into silly IMHO. If they put some pants on her/him I'd revise my opinion.

I'll take the boots and the bag and pass on everything else. I really dislike fur (especially real fur, but I don't even like most faux fur aesthetically) and the no-pants thing is a dealbreaker for me.

Interesting comments! Yes, this does seem to fit with the UWP aesthetic, and she's certainly skinny or quite slim from what we can see (to Una's and Sarah's comments).

There is definitely a sci-fi, Mad Max kind of thing too (Old School UWP :)?). Kirti, I wonder too about how much forethought went into this. Who knows? Rae sees aggressiveness, Shannon sees scary, T&C sees silly, bj sees luxe hobo :). I love hearing what others think! To me she looks assertive and powerful, definitely, but not necessarily aggressive. I think I really like the androgyny too.

I like the layering, the textures -- fur, distressed leather, shiny leather, sheer silk (?), and the muted color palette. Her legs do look like they'd be cold, if it's cold enough to wear a fur coat on top of a leather jacket :b

Yes, the seasonal confusion is jarring, isn't it? I think we can all agree that if she had a skirt or a pair of pants on, we would feel less confused by her :).

This look is so unrelentingly hard, but I can see how you could take elements of it for inspiration. As is it's too aggressive and depressing to me, partly because of the color scheme.

I agree with Kirti. Her look is not effortless, in fact it looks pretty labor intensive. That destroys any cool vibe for me.

I certainly would NOT pick a fight with her, she looks very unrelenting.

In terms of aesthetics, I personally find my eye has no place to rest, although the look is neutral there are so many details that it reads as slightly chaotic. For example the top her boots are slightly western, but there are Westwood style pirate style straps, distressing, texture, some hardware and colour blocking for good measure.

It is very modern punk!

More interesting comments! So, Texstyle, to you someone would dress like this just because she needs the attention from viewers (as she's out and about)? Scarlet, and Julie, you are both feeling the aggressive/punk quality. Also hard and chaotic--interesting! CC, sounds like you think she has overworked her look, like it's too complicated or something, therefore not cool? To me the elements seem pretty simple (button down + leather jacket + overcoat + boots, or a formula that Angie and others wear--though Angie never forgets her pants!!). I think my eye has adjusted to very layered, complicated looks :).

Coming back to say I wish she were laughing - that would make it so much more interesting. I love the fierceness of the outfit but I'd like to see some joy in there.

This has a hard, intense look and I LOVE it!!! I'm with you Jonesy, this look is inspirational to me. Where it is flawed is the dress, which is far too short. However with pants it might be too masculine, I like some hints at knowing she's a girl. If she could fix the dress situation, it would be perfect. I like the leather moto under the fur. I also like all of the different distressed textures with an overall neutral somewhat monotone palette. That texture mix with a monotone palette is what I am going to try to copy come winter.

The real fur does not bother me, but then again I live on a ranch and we're just about to put some cows in the freezer, so I am ok with the role farmed animals play in our life with one important distinction -- as long as you treat them well. (We treat our cows extremely well and every rancher I know here does too!)

Yes, her laughing would be interesting, I agree, but I don't see any particular *lack* of joy here. To me, her face looks sweet and innocent somehow, and very matter-of-fact, like she's just who she is, and on her way to the post office or something. I imagine she thrifted the fur coat, and the leather jacket and boots are part of her "uniform." I think her look also captures that life can sometimes feel like a battle that we must face. Sometimes it's not about sunshine and puppies and giggling and looking approachable (not saying you meant that, Una :). Okay, maybe getting too deep here.....

Denise, I think you see what I see in terms of the monochromatic yet visually stimulating mix going on here. I'm looking forward to your fall/winter looks!

I'm thinking of a photo I'd posted here at one point of a punk Asian girl looking uber-tough but with a giant smile on her face. Not sunshine and puppies (you know that's not MY style either!), but not so "I'm fashionable, damn it", either. It's hard to tell from a photo, isn't it? Everyone brings their spin, and htat's what makes it interesting!

ETA; Her facial expression to me looks like how I feel when I realize my dress/skirt is too short, like "Oh, snap, gotta make it through the drunks at the bus stop to get to my car....". It's a very real expression.

Ah, I get it, Julie. I was definitely thinking racist skinhead before you clarified! (I know there are lots of skinhead permutations but I'm not so knowledgeable about them!)

Thanks, MTB. Fierce does seem like it fits well, and yes, those boots are pretty cool, IMO.

Ruth, I appreciate your perspective! I think a lot of people think that "unapproachable" is a particularly unattractive thing :).
