Yesterday pm I happened across some recent EF markdowns to 65% off and had to bring some things home to try with pieces I have. I tried on quickly and snapped some photos. Now I really need your help to determine what should be returned tomorrow.
1-5: long bone silk buttondown piece shown over bone EFskirt and EF silver pants ( the pants are also up for consideration.
6. EF old linen cardigan I own to be compared to the long one(7-8). These are much alike in color and linen cable knit except for length. I want to know if the long one is fab enough to keep.
9: EF silver pants and matching tank. I would not wear the tank on its own but layered under something else. The pants style is a favorite. I have them in a bit darker grey and a couple other colors. I thought this pale grey would work well with bone and other light neutrals,but what do you think? The silver color is not metallic, just a clear grey.
10-13: same silver pieces with things I own already.
14-17: EF soft white linen pullover with high -low hem, shown with the skirt and with pants. I have lots more that I could wear this with if it gets your approval.
I need your thoughts. The long silhouettes are problematic to my eye. I think I like them but are they overwhelming or off on proportions? Please let me know what you like and what you don't ASAP. I should do returns tomorrow.

I should have read closer, I like the pants, too. The tops don't look overwhelming to my eye, especially as styled with the soft monochromatic look.

I don't love the hemline on the long cardigan in the first few pieces. It's not the length but where it goes up and down.

I like all the new items Joy! The long cardigan in 7-8 is so lovely on you. I prefer it to the first bone color one. The tank and pants seem perfect in fit and color for you and your wardrobe. The white pullover seems very versatile.

I like the silk top.
Long cardigan I'm not liking it over that outfit, but it has potential.
I don't like the light grey pants. They look too much like the early iterations of Dockers.
Also don't think the linen sweater is anything special.

Definitely keep the long cardigan. (7) To me it looks more current than the other similar sweater.

I also love the pants and tank and think they are super versatile.

The layering piece (1 and following) I have mixed feelings about. I like it in theory and like it in some shots, but have a bit of the same feeling that Ummlila does about the hems. It may have to do with the pieces you are trying it with and the relationship of those hems to the pieces. It's not overwhelming in itself and it is a beautiful item and I do believe you could style it to perfection.

OK, I am easily overloaded to make important decisions, but first impressions are really good for #1. I did not see the shirttail type hem as a problem--I like the fabric and color.
Re: the long gray cardi, it looks good in that outfit but I wonder if the thin knit and length will be less versatilee, as to where and how it falls on an outfit. Not sure; the color is great, though.
I think pants are fine. Not sure tank is as good, but can see benefit of matchy if you have jackets.
Like the last white sweater, looks soft and comfy, looks like you. You are so slim that you can wear straight hems, no problem. Looks versatile.

I thought the white pieces flattered you the most. The white linen pullover is great, and so is the long bone silk cardigan. All the pieces are so elegant, but those were my favorites.

The silhouette is not at all overwhelming!

I think the way you ring the changes with the pieces is terrific: the pieces would all work well in your wardrobe and very much suit you. #7 and #8 are my favorites.

FWIW I'm getting way more mileage out of my long long cardigans than I expected. And I wasn't happy with that linen sweater's drape after washing.

ETA: It was my white linen pullover that lost it's shape, not the cardigan (the cardi I have is a silk-linen blend)

These colors are so beautiful on you it is hard to focus on what is worth keeping. I like the long silk shirt, but is it meant as an overshirt? It is confusing me a bit. The long sweater looks very elegant to me. The other basics seem versatile and, as mentioned, the color is splendid.

I like the long bone piece in #1 best and the white pullover in #16 next. I vote return the other pieces.

My favourites are the pants and tank and the white linen pullover. The silver is beautiful on you and the white pullover looks fantastic the way you have styled it. I particularly love it with the skirt...so flattering.

I'm not so sure about the long cardi. It seems to hide your fabulous figure.

Hi Joy --

I think you're ok with the longer items (1 and 7), though 1 may depend on how it looks and feels in motion. 7 seems pretty sleek static.

I prefer the pants rolled vs as-is, so perhaps taking the plunge and hemming would be an option? [As-is I can see the Dockers reference, sorry! Though I'm sure the fabric is much prettier.]

The white pullover is a beautiful color on you, but the sweater seems...ok. I find I have to spend an annoying amount of time figuring out which top hemlines work with which bottoms, so if it's a need, more experimentation? Could be an amazing basic for you.

I like the long tunic top in pic 1 and I'm also somewhat partial to the long cardi, though it does look perhaps a bit lightweight to drape well, and I agree with Vix about finding the right item to wear it with. I'd suggest a skinny pant, but maybe the lightweight knit would make this item too "grabby". I love the shade of the white top in your last few pics, it's a great tone on you. But I'm not sure about the length. It hangs nicely from the side in pic 16, but in pic 17 seems to hit in the wrong place for you. I'm with you on liking the style of the trousers, I have those in different colours too. But I'm just not sure about them in this light grey colour. But maybe the photo isn't picking up the colour well.

Well, I fear I'm no help. My top picks are the long cardi and the white linen pullover. (I don't feel the cardi is duplicative, because it is such a different style. I find it useful to have different pieces in similar colors, for wearing with and creating different silhouettes.)
Then maybe the pants, because they are the style you already like, and the color will go nicely with your wardrobe. And I do like the long silk button-down. Is it cap-sleeved? I might skip the tank if you're trying to eliminate something.

Thank you all for your comments and help. I still am not sure what to do. I just said that one of my August goals is not to buy any more summer clothes! I feel guilty bringing these things home
The top in 1-6 is the most expensive and not really a casual piece because of the fabric, but I like the movement and color and how it can be worn with pieces I have. The white linen sweater is the greatest deal and I need an upgrade from a similar sweater. It is sized up from my usual EF size but I think the roominess works. It isn't really a summer piece for me because it is too warm to wear long sleeves, so could BR considered fall/spring and I think it would work well under the NAS mixed media black and white vest and not be bulky. The long linen cardigan would also be more of a fall piece.
The second most expensive piece is the pants, but the other grey pair I have were in heavy rotation this summer. These have taken the place of shorts when they are rolled.
I am thinking I will follow Angie's advice. I find that she is always right. But I will check back. My mind is not clear tonight. A good friend died yesterday.

FWIW, I would say to keep the long linen cardigan, the tank, and the pants. I thought you looked really excellent in that long cardi. Since you already like the style of these pants, I say keep them, as I think the color looks quite nice on you.

I didn't care for the first long buttondown, perhaps because of the hem, as some others have mentioned. I'm really not quite sure why I feel this way. The linen pullover seems to me to read too casual. I agree with Anna when she said it is OK but nothing special.

When I am not sure what to do re keeping and returning, I usually ask myself if I really *need* any of the items. If I don't really need the items, and they aren't making my heart sing, then I return them. I ask myself whether I would prefer to use that money to buy something else that would really make me happy at first sight, and usually the answer is yes. I don't know if that will help you decide?

I liked all the pieces. My only thought is that maybe the long over short silhouette maybe could use a reinforcement accessory of a long silver necklace. Or perhaps a long scarf?

I like everything, especially the long pieces! I think the proportions all work on your frame.

The only piece I"m not sure about is the silver pants, something about them seems short/small so I would like to see them in size up. Matching tank looks good.

You have likely already decided but I really like all of the pieces in pic 4 but maybe not all together. The long silk button down is very nice on you and I would say its a keeper. I also like the long cardi on you. It seems like a nice length and the color is in line with your wardrobe so it should fit in nicely. What I really like is how smoothly it drapes on you.

I just looked at all the pics again and re-read the descriptions and I think all of them fit you well and fit your style too. I am no help since I like everything in the pics.

I was very surprised when I read you were 70 on one of the "older" threads. You are an inspiration Joy. I would be happy to look half as stylish when I am 70.

Gigi, Angie, and LavenderMoon, thankyou for your kind thoughts. My friend recently turned 80, which is sounding younger all the time. She had a sharp mind, involved in political and social issues and an avid reader of history and biographies. The funeral is tomorrow morning.
To keep this fashion related, I'm looking over the funeral capsule. The black or the ink dress?
