Two skirt outfits

Hi everyone!

I finally managed to take some decent pictures. I'd really appreciate your feedback.

First is an older outfit from sometime this fall.

Does this belt work at all? Please ignore the blue cami, I usually wear a purple one. And the knit top has these weird ties that I tucked in. I'm thinking about removing them completely.

Second is my latest menswear attempt. Sorry about bad lighting, guys, I wasn't able to fix it.
Tweed WHBM skirt, grey BR cardi, green striped GAP buttondown, grey tie, dark teal HUE tights (sort of tightly woven micro fishnet). Black cloche knit hat and turquoise pin. I don't wear this hat inside, I just had lousy hat hair that day ;-) I couldn't wear my black boots that day, these brown ones probably don't work as well.

Is there too much going on in this outfit?

Thanks!

Oh, I love, LOVE, your menswear outfit! It is totally adorable, and there is not too much going on in the slighest. So fun!

I like the skirt in the first outfit as well. I'm not sure about the belt; I think the material is a bit more "summery" than the top and skirt. This belt might work better over a white summer blouse or black summer dress. But I'm not 100% sure, curious to hear what others think.

The second outfit is amazing! I actually want to copy it :D Totally cute.

I agree with Antje about the belt. I think another belt might work, but the material of this one throws it off to me.

Thanks, Antje and Maya! I'm grinning now :D

I hear you about the yellow belt. I really like that color, I can't evaluate it objectively ;-) I have another yellow belt, but it looks even more summery. I will have to look through my growing belt collection :)

LOVE the second outfit! So cool.

I am not a big fan of the top in the first outfit, but I am not sure if the belt is throwing me off or something else is going on with the proportions. Maybe it would work better with a belt that isn't as contrasting? Just a thought.

Kena, I agree totally with the others. You look adorable in the menswear outfit. The yellow belt looks too floppy as worn in the first outfit, but another belt could do the trick. I like the yellow color.

Lena -- I really like the brown skirt with tights and the yellow belt, but I agree that the purple top looks too summery for the other pieces. I definitely try the brown skirt and yellow belt with another top that is a better match season-wise.

You look absolutely adorable in the menswear outfit -- definitely something to repeat!

The second outfit is absolutely incredible, I LOVE it. I also might try to copy it at some point.

I agree with the others about the top/belt in the first one. Maybe try a leather/patent belt instead?

ORBIT TAKE OFF. Still flying around the roooooooooooooom….

The androgynous outfit is KILLER to the power of 10. I can barely stand it! Add your docs. You are FABULOUS. LOVE it!!! Very exciting stuff. Well done, Lena!

I need to make myself a cuppa. I can’t comment on the other outfit until I’ve calmed down.

Hee, thank you, ladies! I'm so thrilled you like the first outfit, I'm basking. I'll definitely wear it again and again. :D

So the purple top is maybe throwing things off? It's a bit of a closet orphan.

Hi Lena, I think enough has been said about the first outfit that copies my sentiment. But I HAVE to comment on your menswear inspired outfit. I LOVE it too! You look like a model, especially considering your pose and location. You must have felt pretty good about yourself walking around that day!

The first outfit is okay......but the second one is ADORABLE!

I adore the menswear outfit. Amazing. Seriously. You look like you stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine.

As for the first outfit, I think the purple and yellow could be fun. It may be the skirt that's throwing things off a bit. What about the sweater with the belt and white pants for spring? It's the sweater that doesn't look terribly wintery to me.

You look like a model in the menswear photo -- okay, now I am taking notes on that one too -- between you & Antje's latest photos I hardly know where to start!

Gorgeous menswear look Lena!! You must have turned some heads in that outfit! Were people practically falling over themselves trying to get a look at you?

What everyone else said - I just want to add that I LOVE that hat, in particular!!! Adorable! You were meant to wear hats, I think.

Aww, ladies, thank you, again! You made my day!

Alecia, I'll try this purple top with white or cream jeans. Good idea!

Shiny, thank you for the hat compliment :) I'm slowly building a collection.

Nicole, I felt great walking around that day, in spite of getting very little sleep the night before.

Thank you, Shell!

Lena!!!! Have you stepped straight out of a fashion magazine?!!! That menswear inspired outfit is DIVINE!!

Posted 1 year ago

Thank you, Inge! :)

Hi Lena, you in the menswear outfit is adorable. You can really wear that look being so feminine yourself.
I think all of the pieces in the first outfit are nice so keep trying to make them work with other things. I think the skirt and the purple top are gorgeous, just maybe not together.

I'm another one who is swooning over the menswear outfit. ;)

Fantastic menwear outfit!!!! Want to copy!!!

Not such a fan of the other one. The colours just don't seem to compliment each other... :-(

I also adore the menswear outfit. The hat especially is adorable, and I'm a huge fan of ties. Did you by chance take that pic at West Edmonton Mall? It looks so familiar (I used to live blocks away from West Ed), but I know malls all over the world look the same.

For me, the yellow belt is off. Perhaps with a more neutral top. Try the outfit with a brown belt? I don't really know. The skirt sure is cute, though.

Thank you, again, ladies! :)

Christine, this pic is from a mall in Portland Oregon. I briefly dropped in to return something and then went to meet a friend. It's a pretty modern mall, very light and vertical (it doesn't sprawl). The underground floors (with food court) are kind of unpleasant, though.

Amazing! The menswear outfit is fantastic in every way and I want to copy it. Those are coloured tights that work. And the tie! The hat! You really do look like a fashion model.

Thanks, Brianna! :)

Hey, I think I might been in that mall, Lena! :D

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I really love your outfit too. I think it takes a lot of fashion guts to wear a tie and pull it off because it's such a statement piece, and you do it perfectly! I think the hat is an awesome touch as well. I hope you post more of your outfits in the future.

I thought at first it was the downtown Portland mall - the one with Saks, but didn't venture a guess. Did you make it to the Dr. Marten store on that visit?

Posted 1 year ago

Marianne, it is indeed Pioneer Place.

I did make it to the Doc Martens place. I wonder if my memory is failing me, I remember it looked much smaller, like a hole in the wall place. Anyway, I never ever dreamed of venturing inside. Until now. It turned out really cool, I browsed through everything they had. I couldn't get my hands off the silver Docs, they're so SOFT.

I seriously need a compass to navigate downtown. I usually keep track of where I am using landmarks such as the courthouse, Nordies, Octopus on 4th Ave, Saks bridge. This time my internal compass failed me completely (and it's not good to begin with). I couldn't find *anything*. And it's funny because I *always* walked by the Doc Martens store when I wasn't interested. Anyway, I got lots of exercise ;-)
