Trying to work this top

This sweater/knit top received mixed ylf feedback when I bought it but since Angie voted yay I kept it but hadn't worn it much and was determined to try. Pics 1& 2 were how I actually wore it out. Is it too short?
3 was an attempt at semituck and 4 a full tuck. I didn't think much of either of these.
Would love to hear your feedback!

I like it with the jeans. Perfect for a walk.

For the other two looks, do you have darker trousers you could try it with? What about a skirt?

Thanks Fi. These are my only non jean trousers.
I tried it with a couple of skirts but wasn't very impressed.

I like the last 2 (prefer the semi-tuck), for my eye the wider-legged trousers seem to balance the slouchy-fit top a bit better than skinnier ones. Or maybe the semi-tuck would work better with skinnies too?

Anne I have had a quick browse of your recents and suggest you have a go at pairing this top with the shirt dress, red dress, red skirt, "Lyn's" skirt, the striped tube and the waxed skinnies.
Some of these are bold pairings but I feel you are able to carry them off. Your blonde hair is a dramatic element in your look and a balance to drama elsewhere.
Anyway, it could be fun to try.

I think it looks good in the tucked version (4) but wonder if it is comfy that way? I don't know how bulky the fabric might feel. For me, that might affect how I felt in it.

I like it in theory with the jeans but I think the wash of the jeans and the warmth of the boots (colour wise) might be clashing a bit with the cool tones of the top. It might work paired with black bottoms.

Agree with Suz - try it with jeans and black or grey boots or shoes. The sweater is nice!

Fieldmouse - I forgot to say (because I thought someone would suggest it) I can't semituck with the jeans. They are actually jeggings that were so low rise that I altered them by dint of adding a section of bright pink fabric to the waistband! There a photo somewhere on YLF

Penny - thanks for all your work in going through my posts for suggestions. Tomorrow is a public holiday here, so I'll see if I can try them out!! I am sorry your weather has heated up already. It is milder here, but still very rainy.

Suz and Shevia- I get exactly the point you are making. But my black boots are so close fitting they won't tuck (I don't think the jeans would go over the top, but I'll give them a go). And in one of the downsides of a small wardrobe - they are the only black shoes I have - apart from my Mary Jane pumps that are pretty uncomfortable and I don't wear in casual settings.

Suz - the fabric is really thin so tucking isn't an issue

I wore this to church today. It is quite a casual setting and lots of people wear jeans. We went back in the evening and I discovered that my toppers and coats won't fit over the sweater so popped a black turtleneck under it.

This top is really going out on a limb for me and I still have an uncomfortable feeling that ALL these looks are frumpy!

Hi Anne --

Disclaimer: I prefer you in softer colors and I skew very tonal with color pairings because I prefer a long vertical line, so take my suggestions with a lump of salt!

First/semi-related, I think the front and back view of you in those jean leggings looks great. I just dislike the way the sweater is working with them, sorry, and would love to see what else you could pull from your selections.

For reasons stated above, I like the grey pants/tucked version (#4).

As other have mentioned, the sweater with a darker bottom might be just the trick. I think you have a black skirt (remind me if not) and would see what the tuck looks like with that. Any way you can trying dying a pair of jeans black?

Hi Anne, I wasn't sure about this top when I first saw it.
However, I do quite like the way it drapes and the idea of pairing it with jeans.
I would definitely keep.
Although you may not have the perfect shoes/boots to wear with it right now, you might by next Autumn/Winter.

I like it with the jeans, Anne! I think the silhouette with the grey trousers works best with a semi-tuck.

I like it best in no. 3! I agree that the top could look nice with jeans, but I rather see it with black than brown boots.
