Total randomness - photos!

It's an "ice day" today - school was cancelled so I'm home with the boy. Gave me a chance to dig out some orphaned or just difficult items to see if they are worth keeping.

All feedback welcomed! NOTE: Nothing is necessarily "styled" - we could barely get ourselves out of PJs today.

#1: Vintage dress/coat. I should wear this more, because I really love the shape of it. Or is it too funky?
#2: My 90s floral dress. Okay for summer? (Tricia, this is for you!)
#3: A Free People cotton floral a-line top. Not really my style, but again, I love this shape. Obviously I have no problems surrendering the waist!
#4: Close-up of #3 print
#5: My faux furry vest from F21 (would not be worn this way, of course!). Okay color/length/style?
#6: The most expensive item I own, a MISSONI I scored on e-bay a couple of years ago! So 70s Barbie colors, I know. I absolutely LOOOOOOOVE this but have no occasions to wear it, so I think I am just going to wear it for Thanksgiving this year. It is probably much too long on me.
#7: My photo companion.

ETA: Looking at these photos is giving me a sense of how completely unfocused my style really is. I think I'm more like a 2 on QM's fashion journey scale...

The dress is a bit too 90's for me ;-(
Try the floral top and waistcoat together? Love the length of the shaggy waistcoat wish mine was this length

1) It's perfectly funky! Please wear it more!
2) definitely good for summer
3 and 4) I am SUPER curious what would happen if you dyed this. I'm not saying you should or that it would turn out well, but maybe it would be a fun experiment if you decide you just don't like the print enough to keep it.
5) I'm personally not a fan of fur (real or fake), but I like that this one doesn't add too much bulk
6) how pretty! is some of it metallic? I see a glimmer of something...

Louise, the Missoni is actually a long sweater - it closes with a single hook at the bust, or the belt (which looks a bit bathrobe-y to me that way), or you can leave it open.

Anna, I know, the floral top had a weird appeal I could not resist. Now that I have jeggings, I think that will de-orphan it.

Oh, Kate - brilliant, dye is a GREAT idea, as this ivory is not really my color. I wonder what would make sense, as the florals are kind of nice. It would take color well since it's a gauzy cotton.

I love #1, like #5, and really like #6 but maybe you could move the sash tie up a little? #2 is a bit too 90's for me - I just tossed a very similar one of my own last month

Una, I swear I owned that coat (#1) and it's matching sheath dress...1970. I wish I still had that outfit. I really like the fur vest. It seems so Alaska and small enough to be not overly warm indoors.
The Missoni dress is gorgeous and timeless. Have you tried it loose or with a different belt? Your companion is a sweetie.

Joy, did you really? It's adorable even though it's some bizarre space age polyester. It was thrifted - do you think yours could have journeyed all the way here on its own?

Thanks, all! Angie, yay for vintage killer, and can I take it the rest is not worth keeping. What can I do with the Missoni, or is it just too big? It is an open front sweater, probably made for someone a foot taller than me, sadly - but I can't see giving it up...

Una, are the flowers printed on (can you feel a textural difference when you touch them) or are they dyed? I think the top could turn out 3 ways: 1) all black, 2) almost all black with a weird texture to it because the flowers absorbed some but not all of the dye, or 3) black with a floral pattern. I can't remember if you've dyed things before, but if you haven't and want to try I would be happy to give you some tips.

Could you try the Missoni over a dress? The length might look better that way...

LOVE the vintage coat!! I think the 90s dress is cute but you knew I would say that. You can always look at some of the vintage blogs for ideas on styling it (Rhiannon at Liebmarlene Vintage in particular wears that kind of dress pretty often). The floral top is not my taste, but it doesn't look bad on you, and I really like the vest and the Missoni.

My favorites are 1 and 5. Furbaby is too cute! #2 looks dated. #3/4 looks too large even with a surrender the waist look. #6 I'm on the fence with this one.

Have to pipe up with another great gams vote. And, sadly, I think both the floral and the Missoni are just too big on your fabulous petite frame. The coat and the vest are definte keepers. Not sure about the dress. I like it and like it on you just not sure how to style to give it a current look.

The Missoni is making me cry. Of course, it was an e-bay purchase so there was no returning. I could consign it and make back what I paid. But I love it so much, even though you all are absolutely right about the sizing. I am going to try some other outfits and hope something works...

I like the coat - nice shape and retro feel to it. I don't care much abour a dress and a flowered top - IMO dress looks dated and top does do you any favors (and mind you, I am for surrendering the waist too!:-)
Have you tried to wear the Missoni sweater open like cardigan? I would also ditch the self belt. Try to play with it and style in different ways - who knows, you may find a winner!
Fur vest looks like fun too.

i love the missoni sweater. i can see you with a bikini underneath at poolside (sans belt). seriously fab sweater.

for the other seasons of the year, have you tried a skinny belt at your natural waist and blousing the sweater a bit over the belt?

i'm dying for that coat.

Una, I hope you can salvage the Missoni by styling it differently because the colours are gorgeous on you. Try a different belt in a higher position - eliminate the bath robe effect. Can you shorten the sleeves do you think?

Una, my coat and dress were raw silk that gave a wonderful texture, it's not the same one but sure looks like it. Please try restyling the Missoni before giving up on it. I'm wondering if it could be altered to become a wrap dress/tunic using the self belt. Can you wear that style? Shortening or narrowing the sleeves would also help.

If you had the sleeves shortened, or at least buttons added maybe to make it tab rolled style, shortened the length to tunic length and used a different belt, I think you can save the Missoni. It is nice on you, just swallowing you up a bit right now.

Can a knitted fabric be altered like that? I really can't mess with the pattern at the bottom, but I'm willng to take up sleeves and maybe even see if the width can be narrowed?

You may think these looks show how "unfocused" your style is, but I think they look very much of a piece. That arty urban boho thang is coming through. I think you need to embrace the fact that you may be Alaska's Kate Moss, minus the coke habit!

The vintage Missoni is amazing. I think I'd keep it to wear AS a bathrobe rather than doing the practical thing and eBaying it.

But I agree with the consensus that before you do either, you should play with it...echoing the "add wide leather belt and try working a blouson" suggestions.

I'd also be curious as to how this looks open over a column of color (monochromatic dress + boots or top + skirt/pants under); that might show off your small frame while allowing the Missoni-as-duster element to add a louche, don't-roll-out-of-bed-til-2 pm element.
