There's more to life than grey and black.

Soooo, I'm struggling to break out of Winter mode, and am wondering if there's a relatively straightforward way to change key pieces to freshen a look, while still using some of the basics that I love? I'd welcome suggestions on how to take these looks forward into Spring.

Nice winter looks, first off! To take these into spring, I think swapping out the footwear will be the major thing; oxfords, pointy flats, smoking slippers, or even short boots would be an immediate change. For the first outfit, you could also try swapping the black pants for gray or any other light shade. For the second, you could try swapping the black tights for some textured nudes or a sheer patterned pair.

Lol Aida, I was just looking at your post for ideas and definitely like the idea of florals, as you've done there. I also like the white look a lot! Thanks for the tips, I will try them out this week!

Hah, fun! Florals are another great option, they tend to have a direct correlation to springtime feelings. Of course there is also the option of adding in more white which always perks things up, I forgot to mention that initially.

EDIT #1: And showing a bit more skin. Pushing up sleeves, letting out some ankle, that sort of thing.

EDIT #2: Ooh also! If you like wearing dark colors, you can simply lighten up the fabrications you are wearing. Linen, thin cottons, featherweight cashmere, perforated leathers, etc.

You have some really nice basics here to work with. Do you have a lighter color cardi or jacket you could wear instead of the black one in the second picture? Ditto Aida's excellent suggestions about footwear, white, etc.

Oooh, good idea on the cardi, Windchime. Will have to see if my turqoise one fills the bill! White perplexes me in that I never seem to find pieces that have the right opacity :-/. Probably need a white leather biker jacket for Spring

I love that lighter colored jacket in #1, and I agree that white is a great place to start for us tonal/neutral lovers. I have neglected lighter summer toppers myself, and it's something I'm on the hunt for. I don't mind a bit of sheer in my white items, though; kind of ethereal. My white and white-inclusive bags are also useful for this.

I have a tough time transitioning to spring, too. The jacket is really pretty and I can see it with white pants for spring. I would still wear black pants but with lighter color tops and maybe loafers or flats rather than boots.

If you love grey --- what about lightening up with citron or yellow? Little pops of the color are enough. I can't wear the color near my face, alas, but I have a yellow bag that says "spring" and harmonizes beautifully with my cobalt, denim blue, black and raspberry pink.

P.S. Floral and white are fab, too.
