the heat wave continues (what I"m wearing to survive it)

sunny and 79 today (which at my house means low 80's)

I was determined to wear this top and skirt today and ran into some styling difficulties (I'll spare you the drama) but ended up with this...

the problem is it hasn't hit the 79 yet this morning, and I"m going to be inside where it will be cooler, but I don't have the right topper for this outfit. I finally settled on this black lacy type cardi shrug thing which doesn't show up in the picture well at all, but there you go. I'll try to deal without it, but at least I have it if I get to cold

and, I know Angie says to avoid black boots for spring, but Angie is out of the country and nobody is going to tell on me.

So are we supposed to avoid black in general for spring/summer? I was wondering about that after you posted in my WiW today. I have black clamdiggers, new black cigarette pants, a black linen blend skirt, several black summer tops, black ballet flat/wedges arriving tomorrow...I need my black! I guess you can take the girl out of NYC, but you can't take the NYC out of the girl.

Tricia -- we can wear black in the spring+summer; it's a matter of how you style it (so it's not "heavy").

I think the outfit is very fab and very appropriate for the transition time into spring.

Your bare legs, lacy cardi, and white in the scarf belt lighten up the look perfectly for this inbetween time.

Tricia- I didn't mean to imply that we can't wear black past Easter... your black items sound great. And I really hesitated making that comment on your outfit, but that particular black skirt seemed to be a bit heavy. A black linen skirt would be great for spring!

cciele- that's what I was thinking... I have another week to wear my black boots (but honeslty, paired with a spring dress with black in it, I would probably wear them again.)

thanks Sara- we must have posted at the same time... I agree- I think I have a good balance of skin and white to keep this outfit from looking like winter. I am actually quite pleased with myself today

Kim... it is SO nice. Not sure if the expense is worth it though. I am sitting in the backyard with my laptop. I've missed being able to do this!

I have mentioned this before, I grew up in S.J and Los Gatos, the first 20 years of my life..... and I must say you have the BEST weather in the entire Bay Area...not too cold in the winter ,or too hot in the summer...just about the most PERFECT spring and summers!!! How I miss that!!!!

PS - Queenie, I absolutely love your name! And when I read about why you chose that name I giggled even more. You see, I'm a mum to three boys myself and have self proclaimed myself the past few years as "Princess" of my household! (Yes, I am cheeky enough to even say to my boys and husband that "No, I can't" at various times. "Why?" they will ask. "Because I'm the princess of this family!" I reply. End of conversation! It now seems only fitting to me, to be a princess to your queen!

Oh Queenie, I swear to secrecy ! But in case it gets out - officially Spring doesn't start until the 21st or so. It is technically still Winter, just unseasonably so.

I don't think she was making a rule, just that she herself switches to lighter color boots for spring. but keep in mind that Angie has quite an extensive boot collection.

The outfit is great!

I ended up in walking shorts/clams (not sure they're skinny enough to be called clams), a sleeveless top, and sandals today. I'm not sure my feet and legs were ready, but the heat didn't give me a choice.

I, too, am the queen in a house of blue. Now off to read the story behind the name "queenie."

ooooh I really like that outfit...

And you know what... I was trying to work a scarf as a belt out this morning, didn't quite get it right, then worked out the cyclone (hurricane) bearing down on our coast has well and truly caused gale-force winds here, so I tied my hair back with it LOL

But now I'm going to try again with it as a belt seeing how you have done it - thanks so much!

Haha your comment about us telling on you made me laugh. I don't mind black boots at all for spring, but maybe a lighter top would make it more springy. Apologies if someone else has already suggested this....haven't read any other comments. It's a great silhouette for you though!
