It's another rainy and very cold day in MA. I am just trying to stay warm and dry since I'm meeting a friend for coffee and some walking.

Do you think I can get away with skinnies worn in this way or I should stick to longer tops? Thanks!

I definitely think you can pull off skinnies without a longer tunic style shirt because you're very slender. The boots and skinnies look great! I'm not crazy about the black jacket with the outfit, but that could just be my personal taste.

Thanks Ana! The jacket is a very casual piece made from sweatshirt-like material and I don't wear it that often at all. I just added it because I felt that with these type of outfit a shorter and swingy layer of a fitted top masks the big difference between my hips and waist making me look less hippy. But I could be definitely wrong...

The top looks fine with the pants. I love the boots with the skinnies. I think the boots make the jeans look less like skinnies, so maybe that is why the shirt works. I don't mind the jacket with the outfit (but it looks a little wrinkled...) Since we're from the same area, I'm well aware of the need for a warm jacket on a day like today--and probably more accustomed to seeing jackets similar to yours than someone who is already wearing sleeveless tops and strappy sandals. (Though we did have a nice little taste of summer a few weeks ago--we actually went to Hampton Beach and the kids even went in the FRIGID water). But such is the life of a New Englander. Sandals one day, boots the next! I have cleaned and put away my leather boots for the season though. I will wear my wellies if it's really wet, but they are not particularly warm!

That actually looks a LOT like the kind of thing I wore a lot in the winter. Long red longsleeved top under my cropped black jacket, skinnies, and black riding boots. So I'm biased but I like it!

I think tall boots also balance out the potential widening effect skinnies have. They add some visual weight to the bottom, which is why I could wear them with a shorter top. Otherwise I get chicken leg syndrome.

Maya, so far I've only worn skinnies with shorter tops like this if they are tucked into boots. I am yet to dare try outfit like this with regular shoes.
An i have also worn variations of this whole winter, usually a fitted turtleneck with a swingy cropped cardigan over, but I did wear a longer coat above tough.
I am glad we a converging point in outfits we wear. I like your style a lot on you, but wouldn't feel like myself if I was wearing it. But in this outfit I did not feel like losing my fashion identity

You can definitely do it Tanya. I think more than hips, thighs are the key to pulling off skinnies with a shorter top, and you have slim thighs. I think the reason mine trouble me is because the way they touch shortens my leg line, but that is not a problem for you. And your hips are curvy but not big.

I don't always dress quite THAT funky. I think maybe I've given a misleading representation of my wardrobe here. Most days it's too hard for me to get up at 5:30 in the morning and be innovative. Most of the time my outfits are fairly simple but with a quirky detail here and there. The boring outfit I posted the other day with the orange top and the Converse shoes is probably closer to what I usually wear.

Tanya your legs are made for skinnies and boots wearing like you showed! I'd swap the jacket with a vest or blazer worn open though, it might balance out the whole outfit IMO, like the one on right in the picture below:

Julia thanks for posting that picture, I like that outfit a lot! I'll try something like that for sure, probably in the fall, since (hopefully) we are done with the boot-wearing weather!
Speaking of fall, I have just noticed that Neiman Marcus already has their pre-fall collections online! Isn't it a bit early for it? I am aware of the whole retail cycle and everything, but this seems way too early even for that. May has just started!
