SYC Denim on Denim + bonus WIW 9/14 (for Queen Mum)

Long tiring day, but my husband was fixing dinner, so I made myself scarce while he added the finishing touches. I took pics, tried on clothes, etc.

Pic #1: I was inspired by Angie's denim on denim and tried to create my version of it. (This exercise showed me some gaps in my wardrobe - uh oh!) I really like the idea of a blazer (from a suit) over the denim shirt. Next step may be trying the denim shirt over the suit pants. . .

Pic #2: this was what I actually wore today. I'm not so sure I love it, but can't put my finger on what to change. I am thinking I just don't like denim skirts :-\ unless it's this particular one. These are one of my 8+ hour shoes/boots, but that was still a long day on my feet!!

I really like the denim on denim outfit, and I really like the denim skirt on you! I'm not a huge fan of the outfit overall, though, because I feel like the overshirt makes everything too busy, with the sleeves, the huge pockets, the sequins on the sweater, etc. a simple vest would lead to cleaner lines.

#1 is fab! I really like the jacket over denim shirt look. It looks casual but polished.

I really like #2. I would wear that in a heart beat. Great color combination too. If anything, perhaps the A-line skirt is competing with the volume of the pockets on the vest. Do you have a denim pencil skirt? Maybe that silhouette is more to your liking. Those boots are killer. May I ask what brand?

Great outfit #1 - this is a very good shape on you!
It looks like denim skirt is A-line, right? Then you need a fitted and short top with it. This is just the problem of A-line skirts: they are very particular about their top partners. Anything longer that hip and/or loose just seems out of proportions. Try cropped denim or moto jacket instead of that vest.

Crazyone - The top layer does seem to be oversized - rather blousy! I 'll try a vest over the sweater, but I also think I'd feel okay without the 'jacket' -- if I wear the skirt again.

kellygirl, sveta - How weird that I didn't even really see the A-line of the skirt. Duh!! I don't have denim in a pencil, but if I do this again, I'll probably try tucking Gap leans into the boots. (Plus that takes care of my pasty knees!)

Your first outfit looks nice, but I'm in love with a second one! I would buy that whole outfit in the minute!

I think you look great! I love the chambray shirt paired with the jacket and jeans. The yellow bag and colorful bangles are just perfect with this look. I also really like the second look--I think your layers on top look great together! They are all neutrals, but the different textures make the look so interesting and fab. I agree with Kellygirl and Sveta about switching out the skirt for a slimmer-cut one, if you want to, or adding skinnies would also be really great with the rest of the look, as you mention!

I love your denim on denim look. Why did you not wear it?
I love the idea of the second outfit... The color combination is fabulous. I think the only problem is that you have 2 "messy" tops. I would either go with a sleeker top or a more structured jacket/cardi........... but you know.... the more I look at it the more it is growing on me.
The suggestion to try the top combo with skinnies is also good.
Whenever I put together an outfit that just doesn't seem to be working, I can often attribute it to not enough structure. My body can only seem to handle one unstructured piece at a time.

Rad outfits! I love how outfit #1 is casual-chic and outfit #2 has a kind of bohemian vibe. I love bohemian style, especially for cold-weather wear. I really like how in outfit #2 the top with the pockets goes so well with the slouchy boots. Very inspirational! :o)

queen mum - I just put on the denim&denim after work for the photo, but now I think I will wear it and maybe even today It' a little too casual for my taste when I teach, but fine for when I tutor and that's on my agenda for today. . .
