Summer WIW: Boho-lite - YouLookFab Forum

Happy 2016 all! I have done more reading than commenting the last few weeks as we have been away and I have tried to spend less time online.

We had a great Christmas and a good break away- the weather did not completely oblige however with summer rain, wind and some cool temps. We had a run of minor injuries, a holiday sewage problem ( I will spare you the details) and lots of small children around.

I packed lightly and under packed for rain and cooler weather. But we entertained less so I was very casual. I had one outfit completely unworn.

Here are three looks.

New Year's Eve party. A knit maxi dress that I enjoy wearing over summer. I like the stripes which keep it not too boho for me. Taken at family beach house-sorry about the poor lighting.

eta: this pic now at end as I changed my mind over which one to add! I know maxi dresses are polarising. I get a lot of compliments when wearing this dress but feel the photo is not great. Anyway-it makes me happy because it feels like summer.

Summer BBQ at friends (back home again now). I love this coral top but it is very transparent. I will have to either layer like this or come to peace with bra show through.

Summer Saturday. Jewelled flats are great for me in summer and I added a pendant from Colorado (Jon purchased this as a gift on a work trip) and a new cuff from local Trade Aid. Pics taken at neighbours pool which I am looking after. Wearing bikini under clothes in preparation for swim soon!

I have enjoyed reading many threads lately. I am not quite there with 2016 goals yet-not shopping much this month unless a wildcard leaps out at me.

Bonus pics of waterhole rope swing, lovely beach (not as sunny as usual in January( and tennis semi final yesterday for WTA event.

Looks idyllic! You wear the cropped pants/sleeveless flowy top look really well. I especially like the printed ones. And the cuff.
I don't really understand why maxi dresses are so polarising. I think they are a great way to achieve a dressy casual look in summer. Also, I have found that they are very practical when eating outside at night. They protect your legs from mozzies and sand flies! Anyway, you look great in yours.

Thank you Karlyn, Maneera, Joy and Brooklyn. We have sunshine today - and I have spent the day pottering at home with a sick son.

I enjoy summer clothes a lot- which is why I have so many more of them than winter. I think crops are easy for short waisted long legged people to wear.

I don't think there is much boho in your maxi dress. It's got a more sporty vibe with the stripes.

Thanks Coco-I wear a cropped jacket or bolero with the dress in the evenings. It is often needed!! My sons snd friends loved the rope swing.

Thanks Smittie- I guess stripes are more sporty than boho-I am not a big boho person but I like hints of it such as the jewelled sandals and loose patterned trousers.

Oh, what lovely Summery outfits and holiday photos! You have my favourite colour on in the first photo. I love coral! The print pants are fun too. I think the stripe maxi dress is fab on you. It works well with your wedge sandals and the colours are lovely.

#3 is my favourite , black tank and printed pants are fab. I love the coral top, too. I like your suggestion of pairing it with your white pants. Very summery. I hope you get some good weather before school goes back.

Jaileen - you should not be too jealous of our weather as it has been very variable. But often late January to April are our more stable months weatherwise so there is hope yet.

Diane - I enjoyed wearing the white skirt a couple of times at the beach. It will be worn a lot more too. Coral is a great colour!!

Helen - I loved this combo too - very cool and casual and easy for a day at home. I am considering getting similar pieces in different colours as I wear them so much. The top is made by a friend of mine who has a fashion label but her pieces are mostly one offs and the pants from a "pop-up" store that has gone. It is a bit like wearing pyjamas all day.
