My friend had a cocktail house warming party on Saturday. Like myself, she is mostly very casual (she works mostly on building sites) so she asked people to dress up. While our winter is ending, it is not terribly warm here in the evening and I was unsure about heating in her new old two storied home.

I wore my LBD, with my tango dancing shoes. I added some sparkly earrings, a new bracelet from my Mum, and wore a vintage fur stole, that my grandmother wore (I suspect it is 60-70 years old but I don't know). It certainly kept me warm. It is quite dramatic in the shoulders which makes me think it might be 1940s.

Jon wore a suit, and looked very dapper. His suit is not new, but we recently had it re-tailored to make it more fitting.

We had a super fun night.

I don't think I look much like Grace Kelly here but I am a huge fan of "Rear Window" and "To Catch a Thief". I took some inspiration from some photos of her - the earrings, the swept back hair, and the black dress.

I feel quite at home in these dressy old-school looks. I am not sure how I could translate this into my daily life all that easily. I think for me, the best solution is to seize the opportunities I have in the evening and not worry about being overdressed at times.

I recently had lunch with my Aunt and two sisters (the Aunt and one sister are single). The Aunt is a character. Her advice to us was "just be gorgeous" - don't worry about being over - dressed, just go for it, have fun!!"

Very glamorous! Both of you I can see the inspiration. It's lovely to have an excuse to dress up. Rear Window is one of my favourite movies. I used to obsess about the white halter neck wrap top she wore in that movie (truly). And her blue dress in To Catch a Thief is TDF.

Yes! Those are the ones. I once bought a pale green suit to mimic the one she is wearing in the first photo. Alas, it was not my best look. Now I am looking at the first photo and thinking I really need a pearl bracelet like that for summer. And the blue dress. It's ombre! Big sigh!

One of my favorite scenes in rear window is when she pulls out that beautiful nightgown from her small suitcase. So elegant , so perfect.
