Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Spring 2009 wish lists?

I thought Brianna's post about winter wish lists for next year was a great one. I'd like to hear what everyone hopes to add to their wardrobe for spring!

Now that my boys are older & I spend much less time on the floor with them, I'd like to wear skirts more often, and hope to add a few of those, and a couple of dresses too.

I'd like to find a graphic/arty t

A white cardi to layer with my skirts

Sandals, nude & brown, I think

I also need fun, casual footwear. I'd love a mary jane style running shoe.

That's all for now.... I'm sure I'll add more as time goes by. What about everyone else?

Great topic!

Right now, I'm saving all my money for a cobalt blue handbag I found and just love. That will probably be my Spring statement piece. Other than that, I'll be on the lookout for lightweight skirts and dresses in preparation for the hot weather we will inevitably be having. I would also love to find a nice, lightweight, short sleeved white jacket to wear over skirts and dresses when I'm indoors.

Fun topic!

o Summer weight cardis for the air conditioned office at work
o Metallic sandals
o Peep toe wedges (shoes I can shop in or run errands in after work)
o Dresses!
o Summer bag (nude, preferably)
o Salmon colored lip gloss
o Silk tops, cardis in ice cream colored shades
o Graphic tees
o Light short trench for summer evenings
o Skirt and pants alternatives such as clamdiggers
o A short haircut??!!

Edited to add:
o White bootcut jeans (I already have white skinnies and clams)
o White denim or cotton skirt

I know this list seems long, but I'm wearing two sizes smaller than I was last year so I have to start all over!

Another great question! I really love these, probably beacuse I really like making lists. I'm a listoholic :)

As usual, my list is huge, and if I end up with one third of what's on it I'll be very happy:

1. White and dark premium denim clamdiggers to replace my current ones
2. White denim pencil skirt
3. Floral yellow full cotton skirt (found, but not bought yet)
4. Two cotton sundresses, one white and one printed ( have no sundresses whatsoever)
5. A fun little printed jersey dress to wear under boyfriend cardi
6. Cardis/ knitted tops/ blouses in lilac/ turquoise/ hot pink
7. A couple of arty tees
8. A couple of longer lightweight vests to wear over the tees
9. Nude closed toe wedge shoes to replace my current ones that are dying
10. Maroon and purple Converse
11. More Me Too Swanns (only have one)-looking for black, white and pewter ones
12. Gladiator sandals with a small wedge
13. Nice sunglasses

This is fun :) My list:

1) Summer handbag. Still working on and in doubts about this one.
2) A few summer knee-length skirts.
3) A few shortsleeved summer blouses (with ruffles, ties, prints, etc) in colours that work for me and I'll be able to layer with in autumn.
4) 8-hour flats (preferably cream).
5) New fashion sneakers to replace my old ones that are falling apart.
6) pearl necklace/choker (probably found)
7) A pair of clamdiggers
8) chic sandals (preferable bronze).
9) white jeans
10) premium dark wash straight smart casual jeans.

I don't have too much on my list yet. I will probably discover I need more once I start wearing my spring clothes:

1. Dresses. It's so easy to wear just one piece of clothing and be done with my outfit. I would like to get some I can wear to work.

2. Some tops to go with orphan skirts. I got rid of a couple of unflattering crew neck shirts and I need to replace those with v-necks.

3. Skirts. I wear skirts all the time in warm weather and I would like to incorporate more into my wardrobe.

4. Wedge sandals. I bought one pair last year and I love how comfortable they are. I'd like to get another pair to wear with jeans.

This is fun to think about and helps when shopping! I need to try on last year's stuff to find out how much still will work but I'll definitely be looking for:
1. White denim pencil skirt
2. More Me Too Swans. esp. in black/cream or white and metalic
3. Light weight elbow-length tops including a graphic tee or two since upper arms are no longer something I want on display.
4. Stocking up on aqua and coral things which I'm making my signature colors (esp. coral) and maybe adding the right royal or cobalt blue to that list, also navy if I can find it. I'd love to find a pant length navy tank type cami.

I did a big closet sweep in September, so there aren't too many Summer clothes left. I'll definitely need to stock up and I'd love:

- patterned and plain A-line skirts in 'my' colours
- wrap and A-line Summer dresses, preferably some with elbow-length sleeves too, to wear when it's a bit chillier
- a Summer trench (I'm eagerly awaiting the Soïa & Kyo Spring collection)
- bootcut or straight-legged dark-wash jeans
- a fun Summer blazer
- light-weight Summer trousers
- charcoal and hunter green Converse
- a Summer bag (no idea yet)
- Summery scarves
- Summer tops, shirts and blouses with interesting details
- a perfectly fitting denim jacket
- a few chunkier and longer necklaces
- maybe a pair of yellow wedge sandals (yellow!!! If you'd said I'd be considering yellow sandals 6 months ago, I would have burst out laughing, you guys are changing how I think about clothes!)
- maybe a belt or two (if and only if you can convince me that I actually can wear belts in my upcoming belt thread;-)

I told myself I wouldn't make lists, but of course, I have one. I'm just not going to be very active about filling it.

1. white skinnies/straight legs-- the ones I have are boot cuts hemmed for flats so they'll do
2. perfect clamdiggers-- I'm going to stick with the ones I have from last year unless I find they are not fitting right or I find the perfect ones.
3. 1-2" wedge gladiator
4. Blousie tops
5. A killer dress
6. a white skirt or a yellow and white skirt (Tanya, I'm not just copying, I promise)
7. I guess I might as well add my glasses
8. Arty tees and white tees for layering under a vest
9. A short sleeve jacket
10. A plain white button down

Ana, which bag are you saving up for?

Inge, I'm all over helping you find some yellow wedge sandals.

I have actually bought a few pairs of spring shoes already and a couple clothing items and feel like I'm done with spring shopping. I'm looking ahead to summer and the heat.

Here's mine--I've been working on it for a while. My spring/summer wardrobe is not in the best shape, so this is long.

Essential or almost-essentials:

red 8-hour flats
yellow converse or 8-hour flats or both
grey converse
ultra-comfortable wedge sandals, cannot be slides
T-strap or gladiator sandals, maybe the Gap flower ones, must be 8-hour as well, cannot be slides
lightweight cobalt, fuschia, and bright yellow scarves
fuschia cardigan
simple ink or indigo blue dress
shirtdress
Killer trench coat, preferably ink blue, would consider cream if it's easily washable
dark denim clams
A few longer chunky beaded necklaces in fuschia, yellow, and cobalt--I'll probably make these
Moto jacket, colour is up for debate
layering tees, tops or blouses, must be non-iron and machine washable

Maybe, but not essential:
a couple of flattering, sleeveless tops (these might wait til summer)
a skirt with yellow in it
turquoise or cobalt flats
turquoise or cobalt cardigan
fuschia flats
Nine West snake print flats that Ana linked to in some other thread
I MIGHT be convinced to CONSIDER a white skirt or white clams
2 or 3 more dresses; I LOVE dresses
Tops, tops, tops
A nude or cream handbag
metallic heeled sandals, cannot be slides--these will get bumped to "necessity" if a wedding or similar event comes up
AND, if I win the lottery, the yellow giraffe-print cardigan that JCrew has

I want to see a fitted denim jacket on everyone’s list if you don’t already have one!

Posted 1 year ago

Angie - spot on! That's probably the only clothing item that I not only want for spring but also need! I have never (seriously!) had a denim jacket and I want one so bad! I would appreciate some affordable suggestions from all of you. Thanks!

Posted 1 year ago

I have one! I wore it today, and I love it.

Here's a great one that Ana and I found awhile ago. It looks really nice on...very fitted.

Sarah, that's really affordable. Do you have a picture of yourself in this jacket? I can't visualize how these denim jackets are supposed to fit.

Posted 1 year ago

Sarah, that jacket is cute. I'd love to see a picture too. Also, can you give some fit info for Limited items. Is the jacket true-to-size?

Posted 1 year ago

1) JUMPER DRESS! I haven't found any with the right neckline so far but I want this more than I can even put into words. I can already think of a basquillion ways to wear it.

2) Comfy shoes. The eternal search continues...

3) White waistcoat. I found one at UO last year and I could kick myself for not buying it. It had pinstripes and it was so cute, and it actually FIT, but I didn't know how to wear it at the time so I passed on it.

4) Other summery dresses. I might have to brave Macy's alone and track down a few.

5) That H&M jacket.

6) Lightweight, short-sleeved jackets to wear over dresses

6) Gray cons

Donna, when I tried it on, it seemed to run kind of big. I usually wear a medium, and the small fit better. It was kind of tight, but I think the style is better on the fitted side. My denim jacket always stretches out a bit, like a pair of jeans does.

Posted 1 year ago

Ana, thanks, that's very helpful.

Posted 1 year ago

1. White bootcut jeans
2. Red wedge shoes & sandals
3. Some bright colored sandals - maybe teal or turquoise or yellow
4. A couple of cute elbow length summer weight cardigans
5. Cute lightweight print skirts
6. Summer dresses (yeah I'm not breastfeeding this summer so I can wear dresses again!)
7.Fitted Denim Jacket to replace the not so fitted Gap one that I currently have in my closet. BTW, when I was at the GAP last weekend, I did see their denim jacket in stock that looks identical to the one everyone was stalking back in the fall.

Hmmm, I guess my list is more spring/summer than strictly spring.

Posted 1 year ago

My list is spring/summer rather than only spring, and full of essentials since I am still very much in the "rebuilding" stage:

1. Dark denim clamdiggers
2. White clamdiggers
3. Dark denim knee-length skirt (pencil or slight A-line)
4. A couple of day dresses
5. Cropped cardis OR Angie's strongly recommended fitted denim jacket for wearing over the dresses
6. A couple of pair of casual 8-hour shoes (i.e., the summer version of a fashion sneaker). I've seen some really cute "athletic ballerina" hybrids, but they weren't available in my width, unfortunately.
7. A couple of lightweight blousy tops for wearing with clams and/or denim skirt

If my list were actually a "wish" list rather than a "need" list, it would be much longer, but I think my budget will only handle what's listed above, if that! :-)

This is sad but I have 12 pages typed in Word of my Spring/Summer wish list. I hate all of my clothes and last spring/summer didnt buy anything so I feel that I am allowed to splurge this year. I want any outfit from Chadwicks or Metrostyle they are my new favorite site. I know I wont be able to afford everything on my 12 pages but my new thing is looking for outfits that can be mixed and matched. Oh how I love for spring - I am so sick of winter! lol.

Maya, I wish we could go together to brave Macy's! It's definitely something best taken on as a team.

My list is looking similar to everyone's:

White jeans
White and dark denim clamdiggers
Dark fitted denim jacket
Yellow flats, maybe turquoise too
Grey cons
Interesting "girlie" woven tops to wear with clamdiggers, and under cardis
White double-wrap belt
White or bronze fun statement watch

I will also always be looking for cute A-line day dresses!

I love all the similarities on everyones' lists. We can all keep our eyes open for items for each other.
I may have found my red flats and metallic sandals... I'm thinking of risking the online ordering for them because they're such amazing deals.

I have a mch clearer idea of what I want/need now that I've cleaned out the old closet.

White Jeans
Dark Clam Diggers
White Clam Diggers
White Sweater
White Cardigan
Dark Deep Purple Camisole
Short Sleeve Tops that can span work and weekend wear
White Purse

Brianna, I have that second pair of sandals in silver and you wouldn't believe how many compliments I get when wearing them. They are not 8-hour shoes for me, but they might be for you. You'll love them!

Posted 1 year ago

Laura, that's great! How many "hours" would you say they are for you, and what aspect ends up bothering your foot? Would you say they're true to size? I'm a 7.5 in length, but my feet are kind of wide. I'm trying to decide between a 7.5 and an 8.

Posted 1 year ago

Cute sandals Laura and Brianna!!

Patience: I'd love that, thanks! Not sure if this is technically a sandal, but I'd like something like this:
http://i278.photobucket.com/al.....pjedat.jpg
So a sandal where the straps start in the middle and then go around your heel (does this type of shoe have a name? I never know how to search for these).

Actually I'd take this in red or pewter or another colour as well, they're not easy to find apparently.

And: I'd love to see some examples of what you consider cute yellow wedge sandals too! (heel height between 2 and 3 inches;-)

Posted 1 year ago

Inge, those shoes are great. I want some too. In fact, I want that entire outfit. It's perfect! The shoes, the bag, the turquoise choker, the shirtdress... sigh. I'm dying to find a shirtdress exactly like that (only in white, grey, ink blue, or even black or some other colour).

Posted 1 year ago

Brianna, I'd go with a 7.5 - you don't want them slipping off your feet. That's the reason they aren't 8-hour shoes for me. For some reason I have to grip them a tiny bit with my toes. Does that make any sense at all?? It might be that they are a little big for me so I'd go smaller rather than larger if that's what you're wondering. You're going to love them!
