What a wonderful thread. And, Ms. Mary, if you can speak to time, you are eloquence as well as elegance incarnate.
Deb, I'm awe struck at your super power. That has to be the most special one ever. I would add something to it -- staying alive in style!!! Which only makes it the more remarkable.
Believe it or not, I work for a company that makes it a practice to help people discern their own super powers! And then to adapt or adjust their work as much as possible to allow them to shine. We've just been through a "unique abilities" finding process in order to discover our special gifts. And in preparation for that, I got a lot of lovely letters from friends, family, and colleagues about some of the things they think I'm good at.
Even so, I find it difficult to encapsulate my special ability in a phrase or a sentence. And -- crazily enough -- that is actually supposed to be one of my super powers -- distilling the essence!!
(And representing deep human experiences in writing that is both beautiful and true.)
My quirky, not so-remarked-upon, secret superpowers:
- I have a pretty darned good singing voice. If I do say so myself. And can remember and identify a tune after a single hearing.
- I have a really good sense of direction. (It has taken DH YEARS to acknowledge this and bow down to my better judgement in strange cities. Sigh...)
- I can whip up something tasty from almost any odds and ends in the fridge, freezer or pantry. I imagine tastes very easily and quickly figure out what blends with what.
