Should I make room for this dress in my closet?

Hi all! Long time no see or talk to...life has been getting in the way of YLF fun...boo:)

Wondering if I should keep this dress, or is it a yawner...I have a hard time finding dresses long enough and if they are fitted they are often too tight on top and in the shoulders and too loose on the bottom, but this one seems to fit fine. I have a cardigan in hot pink I could throw on with this to change the look and I hauled out a pair of stappy sandals that I have never worn, but I prefer the sling back Fidji's.

What cha think?

Good to see you back and posting , Carol. The dress looks like it fits you very well, the length is great, and the colors look lovely on you. Keep! I think I prefer the slingback Fidji'd too. This dress can take you almost anywhere this summer.

This is really lovely, Carole -- kind of "retro classic," particularly with the Fidji's! I imagine it has nice "movement" when you're walking about -- and I'm a sucker for a summer dress that moves and flows -- particularly when the length is perfect.

I like this dress, Carole! It looks relaxed and easy to wear, but still stylish. I love both the shoes you posted with it (with the dress and on their own, too). The strappy shoes on the left are awesome! They look perfect for summer.

I hear you on life getting in the way of playtime...hope your situation eases up soon.

I have to say that I like both pairs of shoes much better than the dress (sorry!).

There's something about the combo of the print and the cut that read a bit young to me that the "strong, statuesque, womanly (with killer legs!)" vibe I generally get from your other outfits.

Given that dresses are a PITA shopping item for you, I kind of have the feeling you're settling a bit...but sometimes we need to dress for the weather, I know!

Thanks Beth Ann and Ana. It makes me happy that someone like my strappy sandals. Maybe that will give me incentive to wear them.

Vix-I really appreciate your honest feedback. I'm surprised you find the dress looking on the "young" side. I was thinking it looked more matronly, but I am no expert on these things. I guess I was happy to find a dress that fit in the places it usually doesn't, I usually can't wear a fitted bodice because of my IT broad shouldered big boob thing going on. It should probably go back, i guess I don't NEED a dress.

I happen to LOVE the sandal on your right foot, but am so-so on the dress. Somehow reminds me of lots of early 90's prints I had.

I forgot to chime in about the shoes/sandals! The strappy sandal (on your right foot) is really nice and looks best, IMHO - I think they modernize and edge-ify the dress. Love that high-wrap-around-strap style.

Your comment about the matronly kind of overlaps with my thinking about the looking young.

Sometimes ***not always, I swear I'm not trying to be the age-cutoff police!*** I find when I'm trying to put my finger on something I don't like on myself it's that it looks a bit too "sweet" which then can have a boomerang effect of making me look dowdy.

I don't feel this dress is the equivalent of you in ruffled pantaloons or anything...I just don't think it does you justice.

ps Got my sandals out for a look last weekend...that was all they got given the cold, rainy weather, sigh. If you decide this dress isn't the one I bet another will come your way before you need it.

I really liked the dress on you, looks very versatile (I can see it translating to a night out as well) and fits well, but if you decide to let it go, I'd definitely watch for that colour again --- that shade of berry is so lovely on you!

FWIW, I liked both shoes there, with the Fidji just a smidge more.

You should make a separate shelf for dresses like this. Just the perfect fit and length. Both shoes looks good to me with this. And can't wait to see your hot pink cardi.

Mo and Helen, I appreciate the thumbs up on the sandals, I am vowing to unorphan them this spring and summer.

Manidipam and Fashionista, so I'm not crazy for liking the dress. Thanks for that. I'm a little torn over what to do...I honestly think the dress looks best in person, it is so challenging to find dresses that work for me, aside from my IT, big bust, short waisted ness, they are always too short. Hmmmm

I'm going to chime in with Mo here and say the dress is a good fit on you technically, but something about the print is reading dated to me. I could be wrong though. My eyes have adjusted to the larger brighter florals recently.

I freely admit to having a poisoned eye for these ditsy flower prints, so I am not loving this dress on you. The combination of the print and the fluttery sleeves seem dated to me, too, Una.

Well, Una, IK and Mary K I really appreciate your honesty and "thank you" for keeping me from making another fashion mistake; I don't need any more of those. I certainly can do without a dress and will hold out for something that is closer to a 10.
