So those lovely black Fugitive shoe sandals I just got? That I wore yesterday with my marble midi? I can't wear them anymore

By the time I got home from work yesterday, my right foot was a bit sore underneath - sort of between my arch and the center of my foot. When I took the shoe off and stepped down with my bare foot, I literally hollered out loud. By 8:00 p.m. my foot was the size of a cantaloupe and I couldn't bear any weight at all. I iced it, wrapped it with a tensor bandage and slept with it elevated all night. It was throbbing so badly, I had to take extra strength Advil just so I could sleep.

I can bear weight on it this morning but it is still quite sore and swollen, so am wearing my running shoes with dress pants at work - oh yeah, THAT'S a look!

Because I work in a hospital, I asked one of our orthopedics guys and he promptly told me that this is what happens when the underside of an open shoe like a sandal is slightly too narrow for the actual foot and therefore the arch of the sandal is pressing more into the center of the foot and not supporting your arch fully as well as pushing into the center tendon. Then when you take off the sandal and step onto a flat surface, that center tendon tears (and sometimes ruptures altogether). And his final comment? "Don't wear those sandals again - ever".

So I guess I'm back to my low heel/flat pointy toe black shoe sandal hunt..Has anybody else ever had this happen with their foot?

ETA: Here's a shot of my poor foot about 10 minutes ago - I keep my gold flats at work for days I have a lot of running around to do and thought I'd take off the running shoes and try these on. You can see how swollen it still is but at least I'm wearing real shoes!
