Here is what I wore to my Aunt and Uncle's 50th wedding Anniversary party this afternoon. I got lucky. It was cool out so I could wear my new shrug with this shirt. I sure wish I had a pair of stacked gladiators to wear with this. I love them! I think I will start my next quest.

Julie, now I want to see this shirt on you again when you pair it with some other things.

The neckline of the red top works on Shannon because she can fill it out. Julie needs a far less scooped neckline and one that is cut closer to the shoulder. This is precisely why the polka dot Boden top looks fab on Julie.

Angie, thanks for the technical detail. You just helped me figure out why deeper scoop necks haven't worked on me. I need to know the "whys" in order to avoid replicating my mistakes in the future! When you say "cut closer to the shoulder," what do you mean?

Shannon - you look wonderful! Thank you for posting these pictures! The top looks much better on you than me. I tried it with a different cami this afternoon and I think it looked better.
Angie - I never thought about the neckline. I also always assume I can put a cami under something and it will work, but I'm starting to learn that doesn't work every time. In general should I look for higher necklines? Should I also stick with more tailored shirts as well?

The neckline of a top is possibly the most important thing to consider for your body type, Julie. You have to keep it tight and tailored. You want the edge of the neckline to hit your shoulder neck-point. That way you’ll fill out the top. A higher scoop, cowl, V-neck or crew neck is fine as long as you pay attention to the shoulder points. You’ll wear fitted polo necks, raised collars and shirt collars very well. You’ll also wear a slash neck well, but these shoulder points are not at neck point. Somehow the horizontal high slash does the trick. Does that make sense?

Becky, your shoulders are a little broader and you’re shorter in height. A low scoop is definitely not for you either, but you’ll look best is a top that’s cut a little lower. It elongates your neck.
