Replacement Shirt Dress - YouLookFab Forum

Not hi-low or a shirttail hem like I originally wanted, but this is a non-iron Brooks Bros. Black Fleece that is much much higher quality than ye dress that would not iron. Plus, you know... this one's non-iron. I'm hoping it will look nice with tights and my triple-lace boots come winter, too. I tried them today, but they just stood out way too much on bare legs... they are definitely dark/cold/wintry-vibe boots.

I'm not sure if this outfit is classic, edgy, 00Noir, preppy, or what. I don't feel overly anything, so maybe that is a good sign that it is a mix of elements and not costumey? Or maybe it just means that I'm still sleepy after celebrating my 2nd anniversary with DH for the last 2 days - Korean BBQ, flea market, movies, and baking a red velvet cake (RVC was our wedding cake but, sadly, our bakery went under and now I have to bake the cake until we find a new one).

Oh, darn you and your good taste! I'd never heard of Black Fleece before, and now I'm trying to figure out how many days of beans and rice it would take to save up the cash to buy EVERYTHING they sell. Ha ha.

Love the dress though. I'd love to get one similar, so I could wear it in summer just as you have here with some tall boots, and then layer on for cooler weather like Sal from "Already Pretty."

Yeah the boots seem a bit heavy for the shirt dress. I think you are like me, you have a subversive preppy streak.

I love this shirt dress and how you have it styled with the belt bag and boots. Have I told you I LOVE those boots?! I'm sure I have. I especially adore how the bag is the sparkle because I love shiny things. This is so chic and so you Rae.

One note of caution. Did you try the dress with tights? If you plan to wear it that way, you'll want to walk in it and see if it sticks to the tights. If it is cotton, it might bunch, twist, do weird things unless you wear a slip.

Lovely outfit, the boots are so cool! I don't see a problem with them paired with the lighter shirtdress. It's a fashion-forward look to have dark tights and footwear and a lighter dress.

DV, thank you re: the boots! It took me ages to find ones that fit just right in the calf. I am still breaking these in; they are built to withstand nuclear war.

Suz, I actually own several slips, and not even black shows through this material. I don't think I'll need it with my sheer tights, though, since they are pretty silky.

Denise, thanks for the visual aid. I think ladylike black pumps are probably a legitimate wardrobe hole right now. I keep seeing black pumps with everything.

Karie, I absolutely hate ironing. This will definitely help the dress's wearability.

Love the crispness and classic, slightly 70's sensibility of this dress. Fit looks great, and mixing it with strong, dark leather is a great choice for your style and life. This is an extremely "mixable" piece, and you look great in it!

How did it wear throughout the day? I have trouble sometimes with button downs shifting on me, as if they're moving one way and my bodies moving another. I don't know if it's just me.

I agree; a slightly different direction yet so you. It's sort of got this vintage vibe to it IMO because of the dress. It's great, and I love those boots so much.

Beth Ann, I don't know that I've ever had that problem with button downs... I think the dress wore just fine. Will have to remember to think about this the next time I'm in a shirt.

Nancy, interesting point about a vintage quality. What era would that be? Maybe there is more inspiration out there to pin or something.
