One more WIW: UWP vs. Zombies

I am going to see the midnight showing of World War Z in 3D. On a worknight. With my friend's husband, because no one else will see it with me... sadly. I'm crazy like that.

I got these Gap ripped up white jeans in my regular size but they are baggy and tapered which I love. Thrifted Alternative Apparel t, DV booties, wolverine necklace, silver Michael Kors belt (from consignment, pre-Angie's endorsement - yay!).

Just posted this for fun - sorry about the horrible quality, my camera is dying.

My partner is such a zombie freak, and he has passed on his love of zombies to his kids. His daughter wrote to me after we had been dating for a few months, noting that it seemed to be getting serious between us, and she needed to know my zombie apocalypse plan. Good thing I had been formulating one, because I wrote her back right away with the gist of it. She replied with "good plan - you can keep dating my dad", or something to that effect.

She got married a few months ago. She and her hubby announced at the reception that one of the reasons they chose their wedding planner was because the contract had a zombie apocalypse clause.

Anyway, all of this is to say that if we lived near each other, my guy and I would have been happy to join you for the midnight show.

Hey, you were right - we were almost twins! DH and I are very excited to see that movie... we did not like the previews at all, but DH is a huge fan of the book.

OK, this is way off topic... Apologies in advance. But I really want to know this.

What did you guys think of Warm Bodies, if you saw it? My boyfriend and I both loved it, and found it competely charming. But there seems to be a lot of hate for it on the zombie movie boards.

(Then again, there seems to be a lot of hate for a lot of things that don't deserve it on those big, unmoderated, internet forums. So maybe the degree of hate for this movie isn't that unusual. Plus, sometimes it seems like the hate is coming from people who, judging from their comments, were watching a completely different movie.)

T-Rex, I loved warm bodies, too! I think people are just mad because maybe they expected more of a stereotypical zombie movie? Because it really seemed to be more of an allegory for the dehumanization of our society than anything else. I think people disliked Shawn of the Dead, too, because it was much more a spoof on RomComs than on zombie flicks.

Yes, Shawn of the Dead is on my fave list as well.

Have you seen Juan of the Dead? It's a ZomCom (a term I just created! I wonder if someone else beat me to it.) made in Spain but based in Cuba. I highly recommend it. It's obviously inspired by Shawn of the Dead, but is in no way a copy or adaptation. It's very violent, bloody, and funny. The humor is a bit more warped than in Shawn.

Warm Bodies is actually a zombie version of Romeo and Juliet. I'm glad I didn't know that going in, because it was kind of fun realizing it on my own. And I agree that some people just don't like so see their genre entertainment evolving, changing, or branching out in any way. I would love to see a female Doctor Who, but according to the BF who has seen this possibility discussed online, many of the fans simply lost their minds at the very thought. (Although there is a comedy special out there with Joanna Lumley as the Doctor for a few brief moments. But that's hardly canon. *sigh*) And I can't think about the furor that Uhura kissing Spock caused without wanting to slap some people.
