Reading Lisa's post made me want to share my current pain because as this wise woman said "

if you can't moan a bit here , where can you?"
I tried to get a sympathy from my hubby but he just cannot get it because it is a topic he is very far from.
The topic of the bra.
No, this is not a regular complain of ill fitting bras.
I cannot wear any bra at all now! How is this for being miserable?!
For the last week I had an acute case of gastritis which eased on the weekend and flared again when I went back to work and finally I tracked it down - you got it - to wearing a bra. It was not even a tight bra, actually it was an older bra which I had to fasten to a second hook before because the band was on the loose side but it gives me indigestion this week.
I ended up going - oh horror - bra-less to work today <hanging head in shame> Yes, I wore a cami, loose tee and a jacket on top so it was not indecent but I did not feel fab of course....but I was mostly pain free.
I hope this condition will go away soon and will be able to be fully attired again but meanwhile - what a girl to do?!

Thanks God my chest is small but still...

Did anybody experience this problem? If so - what were you doing?

Sadly, I get this too I have chronic gastritis that is made worse (or goes hand in hand) with chronic migraines. When I have acid wrecking havoc on the stomach, the bra strap really bothers me. Sadly I don't have the option to do bra-less anywhere. I don't even sleep without one for multiple reasons.

How about camis with built in padded cups? I have seen them everywhere in India but those are designed for smaller breasts as they DO NOT lift the breasts up. They simply hold them in place. I don't know if you can find it locally, but it's worth a try.

Also, sports bras that don't have bands but fit like a cami. Those are comfy and all I can wear when I have a bad bout of gastritis.

Oh, Sveta. I sympathize. I too am small chested, but still I feel naked without a bra. It just doesn't feel right even under scads of layers, when no one else can tell.

I'm so glad you discovered the source of your gastritis. I hope that it clears up really soon!

I was ons cruise when I came down with shingles which circled my torso right at the bra band. Horrible! I couldn't wear a bra or anything that would rub that area for months. Luckily I'm small, but certainly did not feel fab.
I hope that you find a happy solution. I know that this must be very limiting when it comes to outfits.

Here are some examples of camisole bras.

They will help you until the gastritis eases out, and you can also wear them on lazy afternoons when you're just lounging at home.

Because they don't end just under the bust(unlike the ones I wear), they are more comfortable. Since they come only in small or regular cup sizes (Atleast in India they come in A, B and C cup), they might be a good option for you.

Wow, I hope you feel better soon. Have you had it checked out.? I'm in the midst of randomly occurring gastritis too but for me one of the triggers is pants...anything that presses on my stomach. I can see how it could be a bra, as weird as it sounds...the lower band does it right across the esophagus.

What is going on with all of us lately? I can't say I know what gastritis is, but I can guess. All I can say is hang in there - and rest assured knowing that you were the only one who knew you were bra less today . What do you do about the gastritis itself ?

You have all my sympathy. I would seriously have to stay home if I could't wear a bra. Or maybe wrap myself in an ace bandage. Are you feeling better?

Oh my goodness, Svetlana, that sound horrible!! I hope it lets up!! I hope this is not connected with the recent surgery in any way? Or maybe I hope it is connected in the sense that maybe it is a temporary upset due to healing....

I can easily understand how you might feel undressed without the bra. I recommend Winners for one of those super soft stretchy versions that offer no support but simple coverage. Or one of the camisoles that Maneera suggests.

Or, goodness, maybe you need a sized up Patagonia or Fig sundress. I tried one the other day with built in bralette and it was a size too large for me, but I must say, I almost bought it anyway, it seemed so soft and comfortable.

Maneera, thanks for the cami suggestions. I usually don't like their support and prefer the bra but in case like this it may be just the ticket. Now to find them in Canada...
annabelle - you are right, even with small chest going bra-less feels naked.
Joy - ouch, shingles sounds painful!
Peri, I had complete check last year and they did not find anything except some bacteria. I took antibiotics for it and it was better but still not completely gone. Yes, the bra band presses on the esophagus.
Lisa, count your blessings you don't know what gastritis is Basically it is an inflammation of the stomach. I think in this case it was kind of poisoning: I was cleaning my Dad's kitchen last week when he got into the hospital and he had quite an amount of rotting food there...enough said! I think this what triggered the gastritis - maybe because I was just one week after a surgery and my immune system was weakened...oh well, life happens!
I am trying natural remedies. Ginger tea works really well as well as fennel seed tea. Strict diet. Also I am taking enzimes and pro-biotics to normalize the stomach. It is better now but still not 100% yet.
Thanks for the therapy, I feel better already.

Sveta - so sorry, hopefully you start feeling better very soon. The camis Maneera suggested are not ideal but probably better than nothing.. I have a few of those that I bought on Amazon - some will likely ship to Canada.

Oh I feel for you. I couldn't wear a bra for about 3-4 weeks after breast surgery last year and it was very difficult. I ended up buying a tank top from Lulu lemon of all places. It fit quite snugly and were just enough to make me feel like I wasn't overexposed. I could not wear the camis with built in shelf bras.

I am so sorry to hear about this terrible gastritis! I hope it eases quickly, and other suggestions seem good. I'm smaller than small chested but really would not like to go braless. I switch to sports bras if I'm experiencing any type of discomfort. Feel better soon

Thank you for your sympathy! I do feel better today so hopefully my bra-less situation while doing nothing to my style does me good on the gastritis front.
I have a couple of Shimera tanks which are quite snug and thick so they work to provide a coverage and a tiny bit of support. Hopefully I will be back to normal next week.
Jackie, my sport bra is even worse because the band is quite snug - actually it really flared after yoga this Monday and I think the sports bra was the reason.

Wow - that many people have gastritis? yikes! I sure hope you start feeling better very soon Sveta. I'm going to PM something I found about this problem.

But I guess I'm the odd one out as I sort of wish women had never started wearing bras, then I wouldn't feel like I *had* to wear one to feel acceptable. That said, I'm not large busted so I understand a desire for support if you are. I don't think a bra with synthetic material is good for anyone to wear every day - and all day. I'm continually surprised that no one has bothered to try and create a healthier bra option.

So they make post-surgery bras that are super stretchy and comfy - ugly as heck but who cares if you're in pain? They are also very cheap and i wear them to sleep sometimes too. My doctor sold them for $7 and my mom stole them all! Note this is not the compression style but a very stretchy soft fabric that hooks in front. Will see if I can find a link.

Six years ago, before starting back to work outside the home, I had a bad case of shingles and couldn't bear to wear a bra. I didn't have to go to work, and I wasn't on a cruise, thank God. I just suffered at home.

I must confess that I've spent more years bra-less than bra-wearing! I came of age in the late 60s; only the bustiest of my friends bothered with bras, and I certainly didn't. I've been watching a lot of old movies lately, and when I see actresses in movies from the 1930s, or the 1970s, clearly braless beneath their wonderful clothes, they look beautiful to me. Natural. I know I'm in a tiny minority here, but I think it's worth remembering that bras are a fairly recent invention (thanks, Howard Hughes!) and have been blamed for other health problems than gastritus--especially underwire types. To me they are as constricting as Victorian corsets, and I avoid them whenever I can in favor of silk or cotton camisoles & undershirts, or the very soft, loose "sleep bras" that won't interfere with my breathing or make my ribs sore. Those with heavy breasts understandably find some relief from the lift a bra can give, but if those with relatively small, high breasts prefer to go unharnessed, why should they feel ashamed? Obviously I'm not talking about wearing nothing under sheer or clingy tops, but sometimes I feel that I must speak out against the Cult of the Bra--the mysterious measurements and serve-'em-up-on-a-platter mentality--that is widely accepted without questioning whether these garments are truly necessary. OK, rant over; just had to offer up my un-cantilevered two cents!
