Offbeat and amazing, or merely peculiar?

I know, I know -- no more jackets for me until I get some work trousers, but look at this one from Anthro. See how it has three or four different tweeds in addition to that mock vest?

Is it extremely cool, or just busy and odd?

I have my eye on this one, too. The reviews are good. I think it's one of those items I have to see in person. A trip to Anthro may be warranted.

Busy and odd here. SO says you need a crop and riding boots to wear it.
It's really interesting, but it seems like it would be overwhelming because of all that's going on?

I think this is very cool! It would add so much style to simple black slacks or a skirt. Or jeans. Imagine it with jeggings tucked into black riding boots! Awesome!

I'm gonna go with interesting. I like the vest & coat in TWO different fabrics but I don't really like the brownish color on the right. However, I think if you style it carefully and wear it with TONS of confidence you could really pull it off in a cool way. This response is a total copout I know but I'm torn on this one.

It looks a bit busy to my eye, but I'd love to see it on you, April. I think with a very simple streamlined background and your confident elegance you might just pull it off! I hope you try it.

This is a question I often confront on the Anthro site: is this great, or just weird?

For the record, if I were to wear this, I would stay pretty far from anything else equestrian in the same outfit. I would also keep everything else low-key to avoid busy-ness overkill: something along the lines of dark wash jeans with black or charcoal turtleneck.

And maybe a bright yellow handbag...

I was prepared to see a jacket with a duck strangling your neck when I first opened the link. Instead what I find is a beautifully constructed blazer? Shut UP! It's amazing!

I happen to love it. And thanks for giving me yet another thing I want but can't have.

However--and this is something you have to ask yourself--would you feel comfortable in it? It's a very arty little blazer and quite different from your usual refined and classic style. There is nothing wrong with breaking out of your box if it's something you really like though.

I like it if you keep the rest of the outfit very simple...otherwise I agree it would be too much. Anthro has some of the most unique things! Some of the weirdest too! lol...

April, I'm the least cool person on Earth, much less uber-cool, and I'd wear that jacket in a heartbeat.

And BTW, I have the same reaction to Anthro. I'm oddly drawn to the store, then I get in there and can't decide if things are very cool or truly odd... *scratching head and looking befuddled*

I like the jacket, but the built-in vest takes it over the top for me into Kooky Land. But if you love it, then go for it!

Hey, I'm not *mocking* you; SO is. I'm with Jonesy on this one though. Kooky land. Outside your classic style zone. BUT (yes, I am yelling) if it's calling to you, listen to it. Maybe your eclectic avatar needs to be fed. Plus, I want to see pics of you in it. With the yellow bag. And maybe just a crop sticking out of the bag, ok?

PS: Do not, I repeat do NOT, show this jacket to DS. If he thought the oxfords were wacky, I don't even want to imagine what he'd say about the equestrian mismatched jacket.

April, It's definitely offbeat, but I agree with Angie. This jacket has an awesome equestrian vibe that appeals to my classic side. I'd wear it with a turtleneck, skinny jeans tucked into tall riding boots. Tally ho!

Hmmm . . . I think you've got to try it on. It looks really cool in the pic - but I'm wondering if the "vest" would make it feel/look bulky around the waist? Also, are the plaids purposely not matched at the seams (for added "coolness") or is it just on the "not very well made side?"

Good point, Marley. I'm particular about seams matching, unless it's styled with funky seaming on purpose. I'd have to try it on and see for myself.
