No black challenge: Days 1 and 2

In my last post I mentioned that I was feeling a bit bored by some of my recent outfits.

In that thread, Angie challenged me to a personal challenge: no black in my work outfits. Now black is an absolute STAPLE in my closet and I was afraid I'd have nothing to wear!

Monday: White/navy Elie Tahari Jacket, navy knit shell underneath, Gap white trousers ($5!!! on clearance last season!), Miz Mooz grey sandals, Steve Madden reptile print bag. I liked this outfit IRL and then saw the pictures and wasn't so sure...but I did get a compliment from someone at work (which hasn't happened in a while) so maybe it turned out okay?

Tuesday: Light grey Ann Taylor suit, camel Halogen top, Steve Madden cognac slides, B Makowsky stone handbag. I've never paired camel with such a light grey - did it work?

So, how have I done so far? Suggestions welcome and appreciated! I'll post the rest of the week soon.

I think you'll get an A on your homework. Both outfits are beautiful on you but I like the soft neutrals of the second one best of all.

Christy, the soft grey and camel together are lovely --- you have the low-contrast colouring to wear this really well, and it is so on-trend for soft dressing with neutrals and blushes (the top seems to have just a hint of peachiness). The caramel shoes ground it very nicely, and their lighter soles bookend your hair! You always get the little details so right --- like adding just a tiny hint of colour near your face with that necklace.

The navy and white look very fresh and summery, a little sailor chic, but at the same time, the sharp lines and graphic detailing of the jacket keep the combo from going all the way to casual. Excellent pairing, I think, and LOVING the pattern mixing with the bag, the combination of the larger scale in the bag and the smaller scale in the jacket being so eye-catching and interesting. There's a lot of 'depth' to this outfit, even without a lot of layers!

Both outfits are stunners, and I guess it's the time of year when lighter colors work too.

Look at that! You look so incredible in the "non black". Love outfit #1 too. I am not surprised at all that you would get compliments. The beige doe seem to work with grey - very low contrast (it almost seems blush on my screen) and that does suit you.
Have fun with this challenge - so far you are 2 for 2 !

What a fun challenge, and you've certainly risen to it with flair! How long will you keep it up?

I like both looks, but #1 is my favorite. Fab jacket and handbag! And I can't believe you got those trousers for five bucks...what a deal!

You showed me that work suits need not be dark color. Loved both the combinations on you. I am inspired to wear some non blace suits to office now.

These are lovely outfits, Christy, and you definitely look more "summery" which may be part of what was bugging you before - as Anna said, the weather hasn't been cooperating. But here you are looking fresh and calm. I especially love #1. Those pants are great on you!
