new puffer pic + outfit need your opinion

I present to you, YLF, my new puffer coat:

This is WITH a jacket underneath. Plenty of room.

Questions:
1. What do you think?
2. Suggestions for different color hat? I almost always stick to white or off-white hats in the winter (figure it blends with my hair). Now wondering if it's too much white?

And an outfit I want your opinion on. I got the idea for this outfit from a woman I saw while out and about last week. I have always envied those who can wear turtlenecks; I love the look of one under a jacket. But turtlenecks don't love me. So this idea I found appealing - layering a (dramatic) cowl neck tunic sweater under a jacket. But I want to know which way you like it:

With sweater collar over the jacket collar (this is DD15's preference - she says it shows the necklace better and is more dramatic):

2. Does this color combo work with the black ponte knits? Or would it work better with jeans? I am playing around here. Usually I would never wear brown and beige with black!! I was thinking maybe the necklace, which has gold, onyx and jade, somehow ties it in together? Yes or no?

That necklace is new - got it over a month ago (inspired by one of Angie's blogs where she was wearing an LBD with gold necklace and chestnut slouchy boots). What do you think?

I think a colored hat would be better.

I like the cowl neck better tucked in. The balance to my eye is better and less "top heavy" than when it's outside the jacket.

I like the color combo a lot. You look great.

KILLER puffer. I'd change out the colour of the hat for sure. Blue, purple or a red gets my vote.

I prefer the collar of the cowl tucked in too. Nice necklace! How do you feel in that sandy stony colour against your skin tone?

I think the color is an okay beige for me...certainly, white is better. Why? Do you not like it? Do tell - you won't hurt my feelings! I really want to know...

I hate to disagree with Angie but I prefer the sweater collar over the jacket. I'm with your daughter - it's more dramatic. I also think the color combination works.

Lovely puffer. I agree that adding a hat in a different color would be great.

I actually like the sweater collar either way. The first look is more dramatic, whereas the second look is is more chic and polished. Might be fun to mix it up from time to time.

Wonderful puffer and I agree that you need a different colored hat. I like the sweater collar tucked in better and love the necklace and the color pairing for a sophisticated look.

I wanted to say that I like the sweater collar over the jacket best until I read the other ladies comments..... oh the power of peer pressure! So I went back and double checked, and I still really like the collar outside the jacket- very dramatic. Tucked under the jacket looks nice too, much more subdued though...

Jennifer, I don’t think that beige enhances your pretty complexion, and that top is very close to your face. Camel might be better – cream and white is a slam dunk. And grey is best of all. I hope that makes sense.

That jacket is fabulous! Looks warm and toasty. I really like it with the black pants and boots. Yes, a colored hat would be better. I say whichever color looks best with your skin tone.

The puffer is fab, and I like it with the cream hat.

The beige top collar works either way, but I prefer the collar out. That said, the color is probably a little too beige-y for your skin tone; it's one of those frustrating neutrals that you see everywhere and want to be able to use successfully, but it just doesn't work for pale blondes like us. I have made many tan/beige attempts in my life, and they never seem to work out. Alas!

Thanks for your honesty, Angie! When wearing this top, my skin appears to flush bright pink against it. It's the oddest thing - looks like I just stepped out of a hot bath. But I took that as better than looking pale as a ghost!

Agree white and cream are better. I may not be sure what you mean by camel, as this to me is camel. Speaking of which, I have one camel coat that I rarely ever wear. Always felt off in it (unless I add a white scarf). I once had a pair of flattering camel dress slacks, which I wore to death, but that is different because it's not near my face.

Since I am down to very few non-cardigan sweaters these days, I'm going to hang on to this one for a little while longer, even if it's less than ideal. Plus, I love the length of it - it is perfect tunic length.

Laura, I think deep purple for the hat is PERFECT. That will work with my pink-ish botkier bag. Let the hunt begin...

The puffer is gorgeous, and I'd also go with a colored hat.

I like the cowl outside the jacket the best. I think the outfit could work with ponte pants as well as denim; the necklace does tie the different elements together.

Pssst .... about the dark purple hat & scarf ... last year Echo made several super cute styles in that color -- at Macy's.

Like you, I thought this was camel! I'm not sure who camel works for because I feel that it looks awful on me - and I have dark skin and black hair??? I guess maybe it is reserved for Autumns?

hi Shiny - i Love your puffer and would recommend a different hat as others have suggested. I like the top and like it with the collar in. However, I vote with Angie that beige is not the most flattering color on most people. On the other hand, maybe when your skin turns pinkish it looks great - hard to tell always on a computer monitor.

Late to the party, but I love your coat shiny! Fits and flatters you perfectly! Love the idea of a red or purple or emerald or turquoise hat. Otherwise cobalt blue would also be yummy but I know you already have another jacket that colour, right?
