NAS-Round Two with a Miss - YouLookFab Forum

Hi,

This is my second post for NAS today. (The first post was here).

#1-Halogen Long Sleeve Cashmere Sweater
This is a miss item for me, but just in case others are looking I am posting anyway. I adore the color but I could not get the neckline to sit well with my long sleeve t. I think this sweater would be great layered with a shirt because of the neckline. Also for me it was just too itchy, but I'm a little sensitive to itchy fabrics. I have two more of these sweaters on order in other colors, so I know that's one return to come! The brown and camel are quite pretty for colors in person.

#2-Vince Camuto Stretch Cotton Blazer
I don't see this exact blazer online to link to, but it's similar to the one I did see online and linked. This is not a NAS item, but I've been looking for a blazer in a light tan-ish color for ages, especially since I prefer dark wash jeans, I figured it would contrast nicely. But the light tan blazer has been rather elusive as they usually wash me out. Did I finally find one or back to the drawing board?

#3 and #4-Joe's Jeans Faded-Wash Skinny Jeans, Rikki

This is not NAS or even Nordstrom (I've had a gift card for Nieman Marcus for ages and just never shop there). Once again this is a cropped jean that is full length on me. And as with the Paige from my first NAS post, these are also very comfy.

I think the fit on the blazer looks good on you. Sleeves might be a little long? But length in the body is good.

Great blazer and jeans. I like the length of the blazer. It looks very modern. The fit of the sweater is so weird. I've never seen a sweater pull that oddly.

That is a shame about the sweater -- gorgeous colour. It looks as if to fit fluidly you would have to size up in it quite a bit.

The blazer looks like a good length. The sleeves look a bit long -- can they be altered? The bust area (or actually, right above the bust) also looks a bit off, but I suspect it may be the fabrication more than anything else. I find cotton blazers can do that quite a lot. And it's possible that it would "settle" over time. The colour looks good.

I like the jeans, too. You are doing well for new denim!

So...I am curious. Did you determine a number of new items you would allow yourself? Will you retire some older things to the "boutique"? Did you and DH agree on a reasonable rate of "churn"? I ask because these are questions I am pondering for myself as we move into the next season...and (gulp) I have already spent a whack of money at the NAS!! Granted, some was for undies and I DO need those, but I also ordered sweaters, shirts, a pair of jeans, and boots!

Too bad about the sweater. Sometimes things are just cut for a very different body type, I think.

On the blazer, I feel like it reads just a tiny bit big in the bust area. Maybe Suz is right and the wrinkles will fall out with wear—hard to tell. Have you tried buttoning it? If you button it and the bust poofs out, that could indicate that there is too much fabric in the bust.

Kellygirl-Thanks! I found many of the sweaters at NAS were quite boxy on me.

Suz-Thanks! Shortening blazer sleeves is an alteration I've had be successful in the past. I may try it cuffed for a while and see if I really want to wear it full length for the sleeves. And some great questions! DH and I were sitting down the other day and discussing the challenge and next steps. I am on month 9 by now and the end is in sight. Since I do like fashion and my clothes do not always wear out as fast as I would like, but I also do not want to waste too much money, I only plan to refresh 10-20% of my wardrobe per season. My fall/winter wardrobe is at 54 items and it's probably a few items off since I started the challenge mid fall, but it's close enough to work with. If I refreshed 20%, that's 10 items, more than enough to add some life back into my wardrobe.

I have stayed away from returning to the boutique during the challenge, since I don't return worn items to a store, I figured the same rule applies to the boutique. However, I do have some sentimental items in the boutique and I do think over time, I may want to give a style or item a season off, but do not want to give it up completely. I haven't figured out what % of the wardrobe that number should be yet. After all, if I want to maintain a small functional wardrobe, I cannot have lots of items sitting out for a season.

Gigi-Thanks! I'll have to try buttoning the blazer and see if it poofs, I did not know this is a way to tell blazer fit, great suggestion!

Angie-Thanks. I'm happy the blazer color works for me. I think the light color will be nice to sport with wine, black and maybe grey during winter and help to lighten up my outfits. I'll look into shortening the sleeves. I have to check an old post on where it should end, top of the thumb bone right?

Love both the blazer and the jeans. I would also prefer to see the sleeves on the blazer shorten a little. Too bad about the sweater, the color is gorgeous on you, but what a strange fit!

You could make a fall/winter uniform of jeans, blazer and knit top! It is a shame about the sweater, but you are wise to not overlook its shortcomings and end up with an orphan, even if the color is fab on you.

Janet-Thanks! I didn't find any sale denim last year during NAS (only a camo print pair) so it is nice to refresh my solid colored skinnies this time around.

Rachylou and Viva-Thanks! At least I know what color sweater to look for, even though this one didn't work out for the fit.

Joy-Thanks! Actually a jean, blazer and knit (add boots and a scarf) is a common uniform for me in the fall and winter. I adore the look.
