My New Statement Watch

So I have been on the hunt for a statement watch ever since I found this forum and saw Angie sporting her fab white watch. And for the past year or so I have tried on nearly every white watch I have seen – at all price points and never found anything that felt “right” to me. I wear a watch every day and truly believe that a good watch is an investment worth spending the money on. My everyday watch is very classic one – the Jaeger Le Coultre Reverso which I bought 10 years ago (long before Nina Garcia ever wrote One Hundred):

While I love it and plan to wear it for my whole life, I wanted to something more fun & sporty to wear on occasion. I realized that what I really liked about Angie’s watch was the size & chunkiness and that sort of “boyfriend” look. I didn’t like the white band on me however and it didn’t seem that versatile with what I have in my wardrobe. So I picked up this watch a couple of weeks ago – it’s the Fossil Boyfriend watch and it has that chunky, sporty look and a feminine detail thrown in – mother of pearl on the face which is a lot more fitting with my style than all the fake diamonds & glitz featured on most women’s boyfriend watches these days:

Sorry, these pics are so dark – it’s a pretty dark & cloudy day and my house is in the shade to boot. Here’s a better pic from the website:

So far I am really liking it – I feel like it goes with a lot of my more casual looks. I’ll have to get some outfit photos with the new watch. Depending on how much I use it, I might spring for an Omega once my financial situation improves. They make a good chunky men’s watch under 40mm which I need because my wrists are small.

Both watches are gorgeous. I also am looking for just the right watch and it is more difficult than I thought it would be to find one that feels like me. So far I have been impressed with the Fossil and some of the the Bulova for how soft they look.

Nice watch, Shana!

I like Fossil watches, and would purchase another in the future.

Angie and some of the other ladies here rock their white watches in all brands, styles, and price points. Ultimately, we have to be true to our own styles. If you sensed something was off, then good for you for trusting your instincts and continuing your search instead of settling.

Wear it in good health, girl!

Both are beautiful, and I especially love your new watch. It's fun to find a piece that is so perfectly suited to you!

My "signature watch" is also a silver Fossil watch, but unfortunately the battery died a while back and the battery compartment is darn near impossible to open - most jewelry stores give up trying and I definitely can't pry it open at home.

Yes, finding the right watch is definitely not easy. I probably tried on 100 watches years ago before I settled on the Jaeger. With the Fossil, I was actually in the store trying on white watches and as I was describing what I wanted - sporty, masculine with a touch of femininity, small enough to fit on my wrist but large enough to look kind of chunky - the sales person pulled this one out. At first I said, no, I am looking for a white watch but figured I'd give it a try. As soon as I put it on, it felt right. I actually kept looking for another week but decided to go back for this one. I've received a couple of compliments so far on it too!

Great watch! Fossil is wonderful. I'd scoped out a Michael Kors watch at Nordstrom that I liked, then discovered that Fossil makes the MK watches! The Fossil was half the cost. So your new watch is not only stylish, but a smart buy.

I love it, Shana. I have been thinking to myself that I really want a "boyfriend" style watch myself. I didn't know there was a name for it but the name captures the look perfectly. I'm thinking I'd like to look for a vintage watch. The men's styles used to be much smaller so would do the trick well.

It's beautiful Shana, and just the right size for your wrist. I'm not a glitzy watch girl either, so I really love this look.

Thanks everyone! I am enjoying my new watch and have been wearing it often. My Jaeger is mechanical (and not automatic so I have to wind it) so it's nice having a watch that always reflects the accurate time!

Laura, yes, Fossil actually makes many licensed watches including Armani, Michael Kors, Burberry, DKNY, Marc Jacobs and they own Zodiac as well as Angie's watch brand, Michele. There are very few independent watchmakers remaining and the industry as a whole is fairly consolidated. When I purchased this one, I was looking at one of the Michael Kors watches that looked nearly identical - except for the bling!

Alecia, that's a great idea! My husband is a vintage watch collector - it's hard to find the sportier versions though. Alot of the vintage watches out there are more likely going to be dress watches but the sizes are definitely smaller. I guess men's watches are growing in size just as womens are! My husband is now jokingly referring to his sports watch as his "boyfriend" watch!

Inge, I was thinking of you when I was at the Fossil store - I spotted the watch you had written about awhile back (brown with the funky asymmetrical chain strap). I tried it on too and it was beautiful. I love watches so it's hard for me to stay focused!
