I pay attention with what I do and don't like and try to analyze why, then be sure to incorporate those reasons into a more abstract concept. I also use pintrest to capture things I just like, then I edit from that to what I feel captures who I am...and again, work those concepts into my style. I try to really think about WHY certain things look or feel good to me.
Lately, I've been leaning more toward the intelligent, comfortable and serious side of my style, so practical fabrications, plain cuts and a minimum set of details and colors. I've been learning AWAY from Luxurious. In fact, I may take it out because I think the "refined" characteristic covers it for me at this point.
My style cues currently are:
feminist - functional, feminine, comfortable
luxurious - rich colors and fabrics, often tailored, exotic details
intelligent - bold and unusual color combinations, unexpected details and construction
serious - not whimsical or playful, not costumed
refined - referencing the traditional, carefully curated
soft - pleated, wrapped, draped, sheer, textured, matte, worn
straight-forward - details are apparent and intentional, and are in harmony with the overall look
