More black booties talk - what do you think?

Last week I posted about the need to replace my black ankle boots this fall (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....s-for-fall). By the end of that thread, I was seriously thinking of a pair of Fluevogs (pic #1).

I've since come across a pair of Frye Carmen short lace boots that I really REALLY like. I have a pair of grey Frye's that are a different style but are extremely comfy so I do know the brand and my size (pic #2).

Do either of these look like my style? I'm wanting a boot that is fairly simple (not too much adornment, you know?) reasonable heel height and that I will wear with skirts and dresses, as well as with pants. I'm not looking for something super refined and like a wee bit of toughness to my boots. Keep in mind I have the Doc Marcie boots as my higher heeled version (pic #3).

Or do neither the Fluevogs or Frye's look right for me and keeping looking?

Ooh, I much prefer the Fryes in #2! They look a titch more refined and ladylike, which I think would fit nicely with your style.

I like both, but I think I prefer the Fluevogs of these. The brown heel on the Frye's make them too casual to make them less versatile IMO. But the flap on the Fleuvogs back also looks like it would irritate (and I don't stand for shoe irritations and neither should you) Of course the real test is how they look on you and for me it's always the ankle gap especially if you want to wear with skirts and dresses.
How high do you want the ankle? Are pointy toes out?

If it were me, I'd be going for something even more refined in contrast with the Docs, Shannon. And perhaps something with a slight V at the vamp for dress flattery, although not necessarily that. I do like all the ones you've showed, and think they would work for your style, or could work, but to my eye they are all in the "funky" category vs. the streamlined/ refined category. And I think you're covered in funky with the Marcies but basic is the hole to fill? Or maybe I misunderstood.

I like both of these alot but I do think that there is a big range between very refined and a bit of toughness. These choices fall a little too much on the toughness side, in my mind, which is covered by the Docs. There are - or will be - soooo many black booties available and I'm not sure that either of these is perfect for your style, especially for wearing with skirts and dresses.

Jeanne - your choices with Amazon are hilarious, especially since BOTH of those pairs are currently in my cart - SERIOUSLY!!! I really like the shape of the first pair but too many buckles I think. The second pair are great, but again, I'm wondering about the chain detail? Nothing higher than a 2 inch heel.

Suz - you are right in that I am looking for fairly basic. The booties I'm replacing were a basic black wedge heel ankle boot but had a twist on the side - literally, where the leather was twisted to look sort of like a knot. Maybe I'm not sure what my definition of "basic" is?

Well, I like the Frye's but feel they're a bit RATE, so I'm going to vote for #1. Also they have the lower heel, to make them more different from your Marcie's.

The only thing about the Flue's, they're funky. I sort of wonder if that's still a fresh look for you.

It really is funny, because I think the Vogs are more RATE! How is that for butting heads? It's the chunky looking foot shape, Docs-like pull tab, and square heel that makes those feel RATE to me.

Well Rae - the Tsubo boots you linked to with that lovely v in the front is now the front runner style. GORGEOUS. Suz's comments and questions got right to the point - I was a combination of refined with a hint of toughness. I have my Marcie's for when I wanna look kick a**, but it would be smart to have a pair of more ladylike booties so that I can have some variety, right? The only thing that concerns me about the Tsubo's is the heel height. It's 2.5 and I'm trying to go no higher than 2" these days because of my knee.

Or maybe I should bite into the NAS apple and order the Munro Robyn's in black (if they still have my size)?

Oooh! Go for the Robyns or the Tsubos. Or how about the ones Vix linked to the other day, the Aras? Those come in suede or patent. But they have another very similar style that might come in plain leather.

The Fluevogs have a clunkier/more rounded toe (as many of their shoes do) and I've found that I just don't enjoy wearing rounded toes with dresses and skirts. I'm feeling a pointier toe nowadays but YMMV.

The Fryes are a bit more RATE than I'd choose to wear with skirts/dresses, but since you're ok with RATE, the heel + pointier toe makes them a bit more refined.

Oh I really like the Tsubo for you, Shannon. The Robyn is very nice too. Suz has a good idea with the Ara.

Shannon, I really liked the Nine West boots from your earlier thread. I liked the sleek look and the ankle height which, if I am recalling your wardrobe correctly, would be a great addition.
