We rejoiced in unseasonal cool temperature this past week, so the maxi skirt came out to play. I even got to wear closed toes shoes on one walk (#4)! In #8 I didn't feel like the extra-thick roll to shorten the corduroys, though I know this length isn't the best. Sorry about the poor lighting in many of the shots.

As always, comments and suggestions for improvement welcome!

In the spirit of fall planning, I'm adding my recent how-to-wear-trousers-with-tall-boots brainstorming. (It is a huge departure from my typical style, but I think an equestrian reference is the way to go.) If anyone has other ideas for how to make skinnies in boots work for my style, I'm all ears.

Finally, I thought I'd show you my off-the-wagon purchase from July, styled a la E.

You look excellent, as always! The longer cord length doesn't bother me, but I'm not drawn to leg lengthening looks, so take that for what's it worth. I think it's a cute length.

I'm so surprised to hear that tall boots & skinnies is a departure for you! I think if you go equestrian, like you've shown here, you still look like 'you.' I'm not sure about other styling suggestions though, because I don't know what your closet contains. These all look stunning!

And I heart your new purchase & the styling too, obviously.

(Re: other neutrals as potential capsule additions to your closet, I think a camel-y shade would be lovely, but I also think more cream would be just delicious, especially since you prefer high contrast, so it would play really well w your dark chocolate. Just throwing it out there: you might have reasons to keep cream to minimum, particularly as a mom with little ones!)

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, E. Tall boots & skinnies is considered a fashion look around here, and I usually don't like to be thought of as daring... retro, maybe, but not "fashionable."

Styling suggestions... I meant if you had any more brilliant ideas of a silhouette/pairing that you thought would be similar to/a bit of a stretch for my style, like your tied blouse + shorts idea.

I don't have any cream inhibitions - just try to be careful and wash more often. I always have cream tops (summer, fall, & winter weight), and I have the cream knee-length shorts. Plus always a cream cardigan. What else were you thinking of? I was afraid an all-white look might not be cohesive on a dark-haired person (definitely good on light-haired people).

Oooh, that makes a lot more sense (re: how tall boots & skinnies look in your environment). Let's see...vests come to mind as something to try. I really love both the jacket & low slung belt you'd done here. I'll think it over & see if anything else springs to mind as far as how to keep it you and not too trendy/fashionable. I'm drawing a blank at the moment!

How about trying a cream skirt? You could always do a brown belt/brown shoes to tie in with your hair. Just a thought. Although I'm not sure how that would work with your column of colour preferences (outer, right?). You do have a cardigan though! So your capsule is already pretty much set!

The shape I liked most of you is the one with a strong shoulder and full skirt - basically #1,3,5. I like #6 as well. Love the casual texture of the fabrics but the silhouette makes it look a bit more dressed up!
