Last week: Dissatisfied

I don't know why, but for most of the last week I've been either really bored or dissatisfied with my wardrobe options. I think part of it is being at a heavier weight than I'd like and a lot of pieces aren't fitting as nicely as they used to. Or maybe it's because many of the items that DO fit aren't perfect, but I don't have the budget to replace them, and I'm not sure which are "bad" enough to banish from my closet. Or maybe it's because I mostly chose a dark and gloomy color palate which mimicked the dark and gloomy weather.

So with that, here's my past week up until today. As always, I would love any suggestions. To view the whole week instead of one at a time, just start from the top and scroll down: http://inkariswardrobe.blogspot.com

Tuesday: a bit of an animal print theme, I guess?

Wednesday: I think I managed to make one of my "orphan shirts" work under a vest, but I'd still like to shorten it a little. When it's not hiked up under the vest, the hem comes down to/past crotch length, so a little too long.

(Thursday really wasn't worth mentioning - it snowed, so it was really just a jeans and sweater day. Not exciting.)

Friday: This is my favorite outfit this week, featuring the black and white skirt from Express that several others around here also own.

Saturday night (a fun "going out" outfit that was supposed to be just slightly over the top - my friends were dressing up for "80's night", but since I really don't have any 80's clothes, I decided skinny jeans and mixing prints would at least make me feel funky and sassy.)

I think you are being too hard on yourself, and that you looked pretty darn good all week! I love:

1) The silver necklace
2) The shimmery Monday top - great color and great fit!
3) The 80s weekend outfit - love!
4) Your glasses. :-)
5) The vest outfit
6) The dress with scarf

... okay I think that's nearly everything! Oops, forgot my favorite: the Express skirt. It is perfection on you!

Wow, thank you all for the vote of confidence. Maybe (with the exception of Thursday last week) I was a bit too self-critical.

I think part of my frustration is that although a lot of the more recent purchases (which I'm wearing a lot) work, I need to pare down my wardrobe... I'm tired of weeding through/holding on to so many items that aren't flattering or don't fit well, so even if the outfit that finally ends up on my body looks okay, I'm discouraged that I'm spending so long trying to get dressed.

Overall the wardrobe journaling process is helping me to be a bit more objective about what I'm wearing. I can tell that I tend to feel great in some pieces, whereas others just aren't "me" or aren't as fab as they could be. Maybe over time I'll learn to shop/spend more selectively.

Shell, I've been longing to belt the skirt (and become better at belting in general) but don't have the right belt yet. I own two belts that would work belting over tops, but one doesn't fit yet (need to punch an extra hole) and the other is too "busy" to pair with this skirt. A cute belt is definitely on my list provided that I don't have to pay a bundle for it.

Angie, I felt like I might have been "channeling" you when the faux-pearl necklace section in Express called my name. :) I'm also going to try a choker-length pearl necklace that belonged to my grandma.
