K/R: What about these oxfords and a WIW

The saga continues. I hemmed and hawed for so long that the charcoal Frye Carson oxford is now out of stock in my size. I found these very comfortable leather/suede Clarks which I really like but am wondering if they look too delicate for me. Do I need a more substantial shoe to balance my upper half? My other option is the Doc (last pic) in black or red. Thanks for talking me through this

love #4...the fitted top balances out the boyfriend slouch on the bottom. i also love the pattern on the jacket in #3.

i think i would go with the docs mostly because #1 does not seem fab enough for you. agree about docs giving more balance. the red would pop, but will you have enough occasion to wear it compared to black?

Tough call, Kelly. The Clark's look nice and could be worn with dresses, too...I don't think you look unbalanced, But for a more casual look, the Docs would be better.

Thanks, bj and Suz. You've pretty much nailed it for me. I like the Clarks a lot but I can't stop thinking that they don't have much personality. I'm going to go ahead and order the Docs from Zappos. Stay tuned.
@bj: You are absolutely right about the red. I really need a basic like black.
@Suz: You are absolutely right about the casual factor too.

ETA: Since I'm going to go for the Docs--do you prefer the standard color Doc heel or the all black?

Kelly I giggled after reading "delicate" and then seeing the Clarks; those are chunky in my book. And they balance you out just fine Now, they are a bit more on the retro/dressy end than rugged. So if you're after something more rugged, these would not be the shoe for you. If you're going for Docs, I MUCH prefer the black sole because of your dark hair. However! I think you should stick to the oxford idea and look for a DISTRESSED oxford. Or even a metallic crackled oxford.

I like your idea of distressed. It's early in the season, perhaps there is still time to find my perfect shoe! Thanks for your input on the sole. I've been scratching my head trying to figure out the better option!

My distressed oxfords would probably work for you, though I'm not sure if they're available anywhere any more (Bronx "Heat of Nite"). This is kind of what I'm thinking of for you

Ooh, thanks for the visual! Those are cute. This is really helpful because now that I see these, I realize that I am looking for something a little more substantial. Maybe the Docs are what I'm looking for after all--durable, a little rugged and can withstand soccer weekends. Hmm. Thanks again, Aida!

I really like the clarks, but if you are looking for a more rugged look, the Docs fit that description better. I personally like the standard color better because to me it's classic Docs and adds to the ruggedness.

I love your WIW. The boots complement the dress nicely!

I have this issue with Clarks too - they are somewhere between refined and chunky, and I really just like chunky shoes (and need them to balance me out). That was my issue with the Born Arlettas too (which I love on others). I'd vote the Docs for you, or the Fryes if you can find them somehow!
