K/R: Slouchy Skinnies & Cobalt Jacket

First up - the Canyon River slouchy skinnies that Angie showed us. I'm not sure if the pictures truly capture these but I really like them. I like the fit better than my Gap Sexy BF's as the legs are not as wide on me and the rear view is a bit better. They are about 4.5 inches too long but I've tucked that under for these pictures. I am between two sizes and I ordered these one size up from the largest size I sometimes wear - I can slip these off and on without the belt on. I obviously haven't styled them at all and just tried them with my Doc Saras and Doc Marcies since I know I will wear them with some type of heel. What do you think? (Please ignore the bad t-shirt - I just finished cleaning the bathrooms before putting these on)

Second - the Vince Camuto cobalt faux leather trim asymmetrical jacket DH bought me for Christmas. It arrived today and he was more like a child than I was and begged me to open it and try it on so we could see if it fit. He thought if it didn't fit, there would be time to return it and try something else. It's beautiful! The colour is rich and the fabric incredibly soft. The fit on the shoulders and length of the jacket are spot on. It zips up easily and fits perfect - except for the sleeve length. I've tucked them under for these pics but I need them shortened about 1.5 inches. I haven't shown it undone since I have nothing but my bra on underneath! Hubby loves it and said he wants me to get it to Wonder Woman so I can wear it right away - no waiting for Christmas. Then he surprised me by telling me he already bought another gift in anticipation of this jacket working well and him wanting me to wear it now. Yep - he's a keeper!

So these are my two latest items - both have many, many possibilities for outfits. What do you think?

Shannon, first off, I love the cobalt jacket and you must keep it! What a spot-on pick for you.

I'm torn on the jeans. I like fading and wrinkling more than most, but this whiskering seems so pronounced in the photos in just that one area - is it as strong IRL?

Una - the whiskering is definitely more so than on the Gap BF's but I think they would "soften/fade" with a good washing or two. These are right out of the box.

Janet - is there anything specific that is making you wonder about the jeans?

I am not fond of the whiskering on the jeans, but I think that is the style because Angie's look like that too. I do like the more tapered leg on you, but these are a different look than the BF style, which gives you some more options!

I am also not fond of the whiskering on the jeans. I feel like it makes them look a bit teenybopper-esque. If it doesn't bother you, then the fit seems spot on. I like this shape on you.
And the jacket! What a wonderful DH you have, to get you such a lovely present. That color is gorgeous.

Happy Christimas, beautiful lady!! LOVE that jacket on you. And I shall be eternally jealous of your ability to wear a collarless style so well. That is SO fab. Can't wait to see you style it and I will enjoy seeing it unzipped, too.

The jeans, the jeans. I like the more tapered leg. I like how you look in them, comfortable and happy. (I even like your so-called bad T with them, call me crazy, but it works with those Saras...)

I am not sure about the whiskering. It's pretty pronounced in these photos. But perhaps IRL it doesn't come across quite that way. I know that it might be exaggerated due to the flash.

Is the crotch point dropped on these babies, or not?

I actually really like the jeans on you. I am not usually a fan of whiskering, but I think the fit of these is really good on you, and the whiskering doesn't bother me. Of course I am counting on you to put your styling magic to use with them! And the jacket is beyond fabulous of course, as is DH (to say nothing of his wife)!

The jacket is super...what a beautiful color for you! The jeans look like a good fit, but I'm distracted by the whiskering. I'm also a bit put off by the stitching on the pockets, but that's one of my quirks. I like them best with the black boots.

Shannon, I've taken another look, and I think it's what the others have pointed out -- I don't mind subtle whiskering, but the whiskering here is more defined and starts kind of abruptly, if that makes any sense. The fit looks nice though. Whiskering is maybe more a matter of personal preference, so if it doesn't bother you, then wear and enjoy!

I like the shape of the jeans but agree the whiskering is quite pronounced. It draws the eyes directly to that spot at the expense of looking elsewhere.

The cobalt jacket is super awesome.

If you can find some jeans like that with more subtle thigh fading or a raw wash, I'd go for those.

So glad you all like the jacket - it's going to kill me to wait having the sleeves shortened before I can wear it!

Suz - the crotch point is probably about 2 inches below its anatomical point.

I hear you all on the whiskering but here's the thing - I LOVE these skinnies! Yep, you heard me. Personally, the whiskering doesn't bother me in the least even though it is quite pronounced because to me, the fit trumps that design detail. I also think that as the jeans fade, the whiskering will become less obvious.

I love these jeans on you, Shannon! In fact, I think they look KILLER. I like the whiskering - after all, I own them too. I find them more flattering than the BFs, and I like your BFs on you!

Had to jump in on this one. I love the jeans on you, and I love the whiskering. It doesn't bother me one bit. I also have these jeans and have worn them a lot so far. I wasn't able to make my BF jeans work rolled down because they were just too short still, but these work for me. And just another opinion among many, but I think they look great on you!

Oh, and of course, the jacket is fab too!!

It's that darn auto-correct! "Whispering" for "whiskering." I had to tell my machine half a dozen times that it wasn't whispering I was talking about!

Yay, Shannon!! It is good to know you are going to keep both and enjoy both.

I have to admit I am still tempted to order them for myself, too.

Where do you get your jackets? Did you have to get it in my favorite color? (jacket envy)

I like how you styled the jeans more than I like the jeans themselves. I am not in love with the whiskering. The caveat is my style leans toward classic and I am not the most fashion forward chick on the block. So I say take my comments on the jeans in that context

The jacket is superb.
What I notice about the jeans is a kind of effortless look. On you. Better than some of the woven khakis and black trousers you've tried ( of course , BF jeans won't get you to work). So that kind of fit is a keeper. I'm not a whiskering expert, but I think it can be less of an issue IRL/ in motion and with a relaxed fit vs. Body- con.

The jeans---now I know by now you'll take this with a pinch of salt anyway after Angie's KILLER verdict...but I find the whiskering bothers me more when I can see the waistline---the dark expanse from waist to whiskers seemed 'abrupt' to me too, as Janet said. But then I realized they *don't* bother me once the jacket's on! So perhaps it is the expanse of the darker bit in proportion that was niggling... And I had the same feeling with the pocket detail (pale bands too low from waist), though I don't bother too much with the rear view myself and I know you don't either, so that wouldn't be a deal-breaker I guess.

That said, this is one of those things that does tend to jump out more in photos than in real life, in my experience --- I've had similar responses to whiskered jeans on the forum before, and I suspect getting the light just-so makes a huge difference... and is a huge, unnecessary palaver for most of us, most of the time. And as you rightly point out, it will even out with washing. So on balance---go for it!

Shannon, I'm glad the divided opinion on the whiskering hasn't discouraged you -- you love them, they look fab, and they get an Angie killer rating -- wear and enjoy!

I also have to add, that the light in the photo is highlighting the whiskering. It's not so prominent irl.

Shanon whatever you do to the jacket and jeans please do keep the husband.Is he thinking of a career of teaching less gifted significant others? There might be a market there.

I actually love whiskering (I'm trying to figure out how to DIY some on my own jeans). I've wanted to try these jeans too. You'll have to let us know how they wash and wear. The rise looks pretty high to me, could you sag them any more or are they about to fall off your hips? Love your Christmas jacket as well. And you know you need to clone your husband, right?
