It is my turn now for slouchy trousers!

At last I had time and light to take pictures of my new black slouchy trousers I bought at The Bay last Sunday (Dianthus and Shannon, it was all your fault!)
I tried 4 different types and these I liked the best on me - from Anne Klein. I had to size up - guess why. My hips - nope! My thighs - nay! Right, my calves. Apparently calves are the most difficult for me to fit in "tapered" anything Anyway I sized up and they are too big in the waist so they would need to be taken in if I keep them. They also a bit big in the hips too but that maybe good thing for this type? I also wish they were a bit higher in the waist - they hit me at the navel level which is about 2 in. below my waist... They also can be let down 1 in. The fabric is crepe-like polyester and no stretch.
So what do you say? Ridiculous and I should forget the whole slouchy trousers thing? Please be honest!

I also got these RL straight cropped jeans in cobalt. I know the length is not the most flattering and I would shorten them to the better length. However I am not sure about the fit. Too tight? I tried a size up but they are too baggy in the hip - belly area, not just the waist so they cannot be altered. I am leaning towards returning them...

Sveta, I LOVE them! They are terrific. How do they feel? Have you tried styling them yet?

And I hear you on the calves. This is exactly the same for me. That is why those fuchsia pants might be a challenge to narrow...they are already clinging to ye olde calves.

I apologize for nothing Sveta! I think these look really good, particularly in pic #2 from the front. The drape is lovely and the tapering of the legs is beautiful.

Just saw the cobalt jeans. It's a tough call. I can see why you might think they're a bit on the tight side...but from the front they look really good, maybe just a touch of pulling in the crotch area. How do they feel? What if you wear them around the house for an hour or two and get a sense of how they fare?

I love how the slouchies drape around your hips but I have to ask if they feel a little short? I thought they were supposed to have some scrunch down around the ankles. Of course you are wearing heels so maybe they are longer than I think. I love the color of the cobalt pants. How much shorter would you take them up? I have been wondering about trying the 1969 boyfriend jeans in colbalt by the gap and going for the tall size 6.

Suz, those calves, grrrr! Even after I sized up I still think they are a bit tight. I will see if my mom can let them out a bit in that area.
Shannon, lol - does it mean they do not look really good from other angles?:-)
I tried to style them with a white button down and thought they looked good...

I think the slouch pant is a win! Looks great with top tucked.

Cobalt jeans - I think return and keep hunting - go with your instinct on that one.

They don't pull in the crotch, I think their rise may be a bit too long for me. I wore them several times around the house already and I think they stretched as much as they could.
I guess I don't feel that fab in them and they were not cheap - $100 - so I think they go back. Too bad: I would love to wear them with my emerald jacket!
Meredith, Angie said once it is fine if they cover the ankles and I can let them out an inch. I would love Angie to have a look though as this is such a new style for me...

You're sounding a wee bit paranoid there Sveta (lol)! They definitely look good from other angles as well, they just look particularly good from the front (if that makes sense). I think the length is good as well.

Meredith - my understand of the slouchy trousers thing is they can either have scrunch at the ankle or be shorter. It just depends on the trousers themselves.

Sveta, I like but don't love the slouchy pants. I'm not sure what the ankle length should be as I got feedback both ways (more slouch/less slouch) but I think the rise and taper is a little off to my eye here. Believe me, I understand your pain in trying to figure out this look!

Mmm, the cobalt jeans have me puzzling. I would never have given them second thought if you hadn't posted your misgivings. Have you worn them enough to see if they will stretch?

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the black pants!!! You must keep these! Let out the hem an inch and wear them to death!!! They look magnificent on you--the fit is perfection! I hope I am being clear enough :).

I would say pass on the blue skinnies.

If Jonesy is endorsing the slouchy pants they may be OK after all
I am getting to the conclusion lately that skinnies are not designed for me at all unless I wear them with mid-thigh tunics. If they fit my hips well they are too tight in the thighs - and this is straight cut. Skinnies just don't fit me period! My Martin skinny pants are the only exception here. <sigh>

Well, this is a surprise, but I like the slouchy pants. I think they just need to be longer. Maybe I'll have to reconsider my bias against this style. Hmm....

I think the blue skinnies look fine, except the length is really bothering me -- I wish they were longer too. Or maybe they need to be rolled a little shorter? Crop lengths are tricky, and I'm still trying to figure out the sweet spot myself, so I'm probably not the person to listen to.

I love the slouchy pants on you, or rather, I would LOVE them if they were an inch or two longer. Pass on the cobalt pants, I don't really like the fit on you...

The slouchy pants are a wonderful look on you.
It may be just my bias, but I think the cobalt skinnies are not up to
your usual classy look. To me, you have a not readily identifiable -
pigeonholed - look that's very womanly and sophisticated and I
can pigeonhole the skintight colored jeans too readily. To me,
this is not your style.

I like the slouchy pants a lot! I'd let out the hems as I prefer a little bit of slouch at the bottom, but otherwise I think the fit is perfect.

I would return the cobalt skinnies.

You look amazing in those slouchy trousers! They look perfect as is to me. I might like them a little better a touch longer, but this shorter length is probably more modern.

And I see no issue with the cobalt crops, They just need to be styled.

Sveta, I think that the slouchy pants are FAB and I would NOT take them in the hips/thighs. I think they're perfect the way they are!

I would pass on the cobalt jeans.

Ah, I admit, the slouchy pant thing is growing on me. I think that since these are sooo easy to get wrong, you are better off waiting for Angie, especially given the price tag.

As far as the cobalt cropped skinnies, I don't see an issue per se, especially if you plan to crop them to a more flattering length.

I really like the black pants except for the length. I'm not sure an inch is enough unless you wear flats with them. I actually like the cobalt ones if you shorten them.

I don't think those slouchy pants are too low. IMO they look better and are kind of meant to be low slung. They look great on you, they could have more scrounching around the ankle but I don't they they need to.

I'm not crazy for the cobalt jeans, love the color and yes maybe if you shorten them that would do it. Are they comfortable?

Hmmm, first reaction - love slouchy pants, blue jeans bad length. Read responses - thought, hmmm, would they slouchy pants look better a bit longer? Hadn't even thought of that! Blue jeans shortened - would do if I thrifted them, not sure if they were expensive. Look again, hmmm, no, I really like slouchy pants, will leave the rest up to you and everyone else.

I love the slouch pants on you Sveta. The fit looks perfect. They are incredibly flattering.

Given you misgivings regarding the cobalt jeans I would return. I like but don't love them. I think you will find better.

Sveta: Love the idea of the slouchy pants on you, but I think I'd like they better with a little "scrunch" in the ankles and a little less "extreme" in the taper -- most I've seen aren't quite so peg-legged. That said -- I don't have this look figured out yet and some of the others do. I love the rise on you and the look in the top half of the pant is perfection.

As for the cobalt skinnies -- could it be that the fabrication isn't quite right? A thicker denim with less stretch won't get those "wrinkles" across the backside quite as easily. I say this as a gal with curvy thighs and calves. I've noticed that my lighter-weight, super-stretchy pants offend the most. I either size up (with creates some issues in the belly area -- I feel your pain) or I look for another fabrication.

BTW -- You look great! Tall and curvy is an awesome combination!

Thank you all for commenting and moral support. As this style is completely alien to me I value your feedback so much!
I think I need Angie's assessment as a final decision point. I see two concerns here: the length and the contrast between a loose top and tapered legs.
On the length they do cover my ankle bones and this is what Angie said I need in one of her threads. If I let out another inch it will be covering it with a bit to spare. It will not give me any scrunch though.
As for the contrast between the top and the tapered legs...well, when you have hips this is how it will look I guess. I don't know if it looks right or not and again I would need Angie's help there.
I also bought a pattern of pleated slouchy trousers and I may ask my mom to make ones for me as well if these ones won't work.
I have made up my mind to return the blue jeans. Not because of the length - I could have shortened them to the clam length if nothing else worked - but because I don't really like that snug fit when the color is that light. I am afraid they will end up like my red jeans which I can wear with tunics only and it is very limiting.

I think some of us need a tutorial on slouchy pants and cropped/ankle vs. scrunch requirements. My posts have also gotten feedback both ways, and I am entirely clueless myself!

Please do not return the black trousers. I think they are fab on you, truly. But do let out the hem on them. Those are going to be killer. Killer! Hold out for the perfect cobalts and you will find them. I'm not sold on the idea of shortening these. You are just too fab.

Something about colored jeans, the fabric shows everything. These looked fine to me from the pictures, but I'll trust your judgement.

I am no expert on slouchy pants, but I love the front view of the black pants with the waist tie--so elegant! I think bigger is better with these, and I wouldn't take them in.
