That is a pretty emotional endorsement, Kyle - thanks!
Claire, you are right. I asked my hubby to make pictures of my ...hmm.. backside in Paige flares in dark wash and these cobalt jeans so I can compare. They fit exactly the same in the thighs but because dark wash does not show every wrinkle and crease as easily as the lighter one they are OK...

Sveta, you must keep these pants!! Scrunch at the bottom can go either way. Slouchy pants can be long and drapey, slightly cropped, scrunched, not scrunched....there aren't really any "rules," though some silhouettes may flatter some bodies more than others. I think if you let out the hem an inch, they will look fab, or even fabber (since they already look fab).

Some pics of slouchy pants in various lengths, from the spring RTW 3.1 Phillip Lim collection (1-6), Chloe (7-8), Dries van Noten (9), below.

ETA: I just added some more, from Balenciaga. This is a little different silhouette: Sitting at the waist, pleated/slouchy through the hips, then a relatively slim leg ending right above the ankle. My point is that there are lots of different takes on slouchy pants right now.

Ah Jonesy, you are a connoisseur of slouchy pants! Thanks for the inspirational pictures, I am going to study them.

Wow, Jonesy's got lots of looks catalogued! So useful for all bodies!

Sveta and Una, I suspect the scrunching or non-scrunching ideal may vary from body shape or proportions to body shape... That said, I suspect it helps to have a little more slouch on tall girls, to show the length is intentional and not accidentally cropped by height; whereas with petites it could go either way. Also, again a personal preference, but I think a slouchy taper is better than a sharp one on curvy girls (speaking as one myself) to avoid looking peg-legged.

And oh, Sveta, DO i hear you on the calf fit issue! As a petite wearing regular sizes, I can get away with straight legs, but have yet to find a true skinny (as opposed to just slim fit) that actually fits me!

Hi Sveta. I was absent this weekend - busy driving my new car - and am just trying to catch up a bit.

I like the slouchy pants on you. I don't mind the length either. You have gorgeous long legs and that gives you more leeway on the length I think.

I am glad you were able to find a pair that works. Now to style...

Sveta, to my eye these slouchy trousers would be killer if they were 3 inches longer.

To Jonesy's point, slouchy pants are being shown shorter on the runways too - very, very hard look to pull off, even on slim leggy models. It is as clear as day seeing Jonesy's models pics side by side how much better the longer trouser versions look, (to me, that is :))

Jonesey's #6 and #7 are horrifying, esp when I bear in mind that these women's legs are probably a foot longer than mine.

Angie, can we get a tutorial on slouchy pants fit? Rise, length, scrunch, slouch, body types? I feel like lots of us are struggling and not sure how to give feedback!

This is not helpful at all (although I do like the slouchy pants, but as a fellow tall-ish girl, I like my pants as long as possible-- and these aren't bad but are short enough to make me nervous), but I just wanted to point out that I think you look rather proportionate in these pictures. Yes, you do have pear tendencies, but I also see lovely broad shoulders. I think this helps with the dramatic side to your style.

Also, I have the same problem with skinny pants--- I don't even have "big" calves (I think mine are in the 14-15 inch range) but often can't pull skinny pants up over my calves . . . and if they fit in the calves, the upper thighs are another hurdle before I ever get to booty fit! Straight leg pants usually fit clingy like skinnies on me, and often wide-leg but not crazy pants fit like straight legs.

I love the fit of the trousers EXCEPT that length drives me batty. I know a lot of people like it, but it just reminds me so of elderly ladies. Think twice about returning the jeans. I think they look good and that photos in this case show wrinkles and add girth that just aren't there in real life. Take a long hard look in the mirror and ask hubby. If you shortened them like Angie's recent post I think they could be really fun.

It is very interesting but I came to the decision to return the slouchy trousers before opening this thread and reading Angie's comment. Sorry, Jonesy - but it was you who helped me make up my mind or more precisely the pictures you attached to your post. After going throug them and identifying which I liked and which i did not like I realized that I really like the slouchy trousers to be longer and a bit more relaxed below the knee while still tapered (I would enjoy to have a bit more room at my calves too :-). I am diligently following Angie's PPP principle and don't wnat to settle for something "good enough"!
On the positive note these trousers helped me to understand that this style can indeed work for me and look good - something I was not sure about before. Now I can invest some energy and money into finding a perfect pair knowing that it is worth it - and thank you all for helping me to understand that!
I am also returning the blue jeans: I really want to find something more relaxed that skinnies for lighter color...tight behind and thighs make me uncomfortable.

It looks like you've really thought this out Sveta so good decision made. You've learned from the process and are now ready to move forward in finding the perfect slouchy trousers.

Ah. Sveta. I was also going to suggest that you shorten the black trousers seeing as they fit so well on the thigh and seat (sorry that I was late with my suggestion - I am jetlagged).

J. Crew does GREAT tall lengths in bottoms. Keep an eye out for the right styling on their website.

Una, as much as I would like to generalize about slouchy trouser fits - it's hard to write guidelines for it. Some styles have dropped crotches whereas others have regular length rises. Some are pleated, some are flat front. Some are high waisted. And so the variables continue.

More thanks to Jonesy for her great visuals! Sveta needs a pair of pants like the floral pair you bought in Chicago.

Angie, shorten to what length? I have not thought about this option...
Yep, I am so frustrated that Jonesy found her floral trousers while I was getting my polka-dot dress sorted out: I could have tried them on as well and who knows what would have happened...:-)

Well, I'm glad that my pics were helpful and persuasive, even if the persuasion was in the opposite direction of what I was imagining :). It's really great that you have zeroed in on exactly what you want. Now hopefully the fashion gods and goddesses will supply you with your Dream Slouchy Pants sometime soon!

LOL about the floral pants from Chicago--we could have had a battle on the Macy's floor over them :)! But, your polka dot dress is super-awesome, so that's a good consolation prize!

Ah Jonesy, there could be no battle as I am at least one size bigger than you in pants!:-)

Sveta, I loved seeing you in the slouchy pants! But I understand your reservations, and am intrigued by your dedication to PPP (I am, but sort of falling off that wagon)!

Wow, thanks Jonesy! The Phillip Lim outfits are gorgeous, my favourites!
