Including dresses in my wardrobe.Help and suggestions please.

I have one dress . Really !! It is kind of formal one that I wore to the christmas party here

Now I donot have much disposable income nor am I sure how comfortable I would be in them.
So I want to try some inexpensive ones.
My major aim is because I want to wear something other than trouser and dark jeans to office. I do have skirts but I want more variety.

My office dress code is almost non-exsistant and I am the only girl in an all boys department

So I need help Please let me know what should I go for . Or how do I approach this.

My first thought is that since you're really just trying the new thing, it should be very versatile dress. Something you can possibly wear on its own, but which can layer with as many pieces from your existing wardrobe as possible. In the color that matches as many of those pieces.

Looking at these on offer:
#1 - Not versatile enough, plus the mock wrap is difficult to style and possibly not modest enough in the all-men environment.
#2 - Better, but the existing black & blue detail limit your choices in how it can be layered.
#3 - My favorite. Very simple style, endless possibilities. Nice color, nice neckline, *has* sleeves - in your climate that's probably no brainer.

I like them all, and think any of these would work. I would choose one that you could put a different top over and wear as a skirt. What is your climate like - would you get more wear out of long sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, or short/sleeveless? With sleeveless, you could either wear a long sleeved t-shirt under it during colder months (I have even done this with 3/4 sleeves), or wear it with a jacket.

I like all these dresses and I agree with Ornella concerning versatility. The main thing is that you could layer with what you already have in your closet. I'm leaning towards something along #2 and #3. The wrap top on #1 might be a bit less versatile and as Ornella says - maybe too exposed in a supercasual, male dominated work environment. (haha - i image lots of jeans, sweaters and hoodies)

With sleeveless you could layer with a nice tee under the dress (or a wool/silk tee like the ones from Pierre Robert, found at Rema1000, ICA and other supermarkets) and a cardi, blazer or jacket on top. I see many do that, but I've tried and don't feel comfortable (don't know why). You could probably wear it a several times without washing it too if you have a tee under.

You wear color so well, so I think the solid blue would be great. They usually have several dresses at H&M, Lindex, Cubus and Zara that are inexpensive.

As a dresses/skirt girl I thought I would chime in. If you are looking for another dress, I think it should definitely be a workhorse dress because eventually you may get tired of it. #1 isn't as versatile because it's so distinct on top. #2 and #3 are better choices. I would almost go for a navy dress or something that is more neutral. Neutrals are easier to dress up and wovens are more forgiving than knits. With woven dresses if you own button ups you can wear them underneath which will give more usage to the dress.

Harmonica. God. You couldn't describe the guys better. I feel Stromberg fleece is meant to be worn at home and not in office but then you know how it is here :).
Layering those woll tees I really am not sure.I am usually uncomfortable with such layering but let me give a try.

I did go to H &M and Cubus yesterday but was not even pulled to any 1 dress. Will have to try Lindex this week. No Zara here in STV.

As a fellow pear, I strongly recommend going for something in a fit and flare style that end a couple of inches above the knee. You could start out with a plain dress in red or a neutral and then perhaps branch out into something with a print on it.

Ramya, I know that you love colors, and I think you would look terrific in either one of these from Zara, in red or green. The Strawberry color is maybe too berry red to be a true neutral, but it is close. Pair it with your denim jacket, wedges, sandals or pumps. You can easily layer a shirt, blouse or t-shirt underneath, or add a cardigan on top. A blazer would be great with it, preferably in a neutral, but yellow could work, too! What do you think?

I agree what the others said, your choices are all very pretty. For versatility, go for #2 or #3. And in regards of our climate - come on, arctic ;D You are in the South, right? You should try the North, then

Yay for dresses! I don't know what brands are available to you but I agree with everyone else about #1. I'm not that into dresses that pretend to be a skirt and top. I'd rather have a skirt and top, then! #2 and #3 are great options and could be worn several ways.

Start slow. For a long time I had "1-2 dresses" on my shopping list every season and now I have a decent collection and love them.

I vote also for 3, where are they from? Let's see, you might have to wait a little longer for the real dress choices to appear, so far I see tons of colored bottons and a few mid length skirts out there. I think Ingnn has a good suggestion from Zara but I don't know how their return policy is....have you checked out Zalando? the link appears all over YLF nowadays

All 3 are from zalando... I went to order 3 but guess what it's mid tigh length. No way is that going to work for me

Ingunn: You are a sweet heart Thank you. Never have got anything from zara but the green is interesting :)Let me see....
As for south Norway lets say the beastly winds make it worse for tropical me...

It's mid-thigh for what height? I can't remember your height but mid-thigh on most models would be knee length for me. LOL I would check the total length of the dress if they give that measurement.
