I'm Going to Dress Like I'm on Vacation ALL SUMMER

This goes along with the "keeping the good stuff" for some mythical occasion. I realized when I was buying new things for vacation that I should be dressing like I'm on summer vacation any chance I get (and I really didn't need anything new, but what fun it is)! So I thought, why don't I put this much effort into every weekend? Here are a few WIWs recently to get into the mood. I'm heading to Cape Cod soon so I'm getting my preppy/beachy/boho travel capsule ready to go and I test drove a few (and just tried on a few) of below.

1. Boden Tunic, Paige shorts, Superga silver sneaks
2. Ancient J Crew madras shorts (in honor of Deborah!), ? chambray shirt, Superga sneaks
3. Club Monaco top, Calvin shorts, Esprit Belt, new red sandals
4. Gap maxi dress (will use as swim coverup) $11 Sidekick in Gymboree Lobsters
5. Pleoine seagul top, Paige denim bermudas, white calvin belt, Born gladiators, Nine West Gold Tote
6. J Crew tunic top, BR denim shorts, Calvin braided belt, J Crew flip flops (only worn for pedicure appt), Tagua bead necklace

7. Embroidered top Nordstrom Rack, Talbots linen skirt, Esprit studded belt, Miz Mooz sandals

Well I think you vacation capsule is incredibly fab! It's something I struggle with a lot. It's a very natural extention or your lovely work/professional style and you look fabulous!

Fabtastic, Jj! You have stellar casual style. I especially love the boho in 6/7 and the white clams with the navy top in 5. All are awesome though--love the accessory in 4 too. She's darling! I don't know that I dress differently on vacation--maybe a little better than usual on my lame-cation though Have fun at the Cape!

Okay, well, here is the thing. I do dress like this all summer! Except not as well. Frankly, you put me to shame, and I now have to take lessons in how to improve my workathome style.

These are all superb but my absolute favourites are 1 and 5.

when i read the title of your post, i thought, why is she announcing on a fashion forum that she's going to roll out of bed and just throw on what ever shorts are around and a random T, but then i realized, just because thats how i dress on vacation, doesn't mean thats not how everyone else dresses.
and looking at your posts, i can see that is so not what you mean. you have great looks here, i especialy like #2, #5 &#6. the maxi is great as well.

Yes -I dress very different for holidays, especially as we do lot of camping-so gear and casual is needed all the way:-).
Love your holiday capsule, my faves are 1,3, 4, 5!!! SOOO POLISHED, even on holiday! Love the maxi as has some real(short-not caps) sleeves, too...will you send me when tired of it, pls:-)

Smart move to try out your vacation capsule in advance. For myself, I am fortunate to currently work in a setting that is casual. So my work wear, weekend wear and vacation wear are all the same pieces. I just swap out some shorts for jeans on weekends. For travel I tend to wear less colors than my day to day. I try to pack light and I only select one neutral as my base. This let's me pack less footwear and in only one color. So while I favor both black and brown daily, for travel I will only pick one of these and build outfits from there.

What a great post! #5 is absolute favorite but all are great.

Your ideas inspire me toward a more disciplined approach to my casual wardrobe capsule (or capsules) instead of too much randomness--I tend to be more random and erratic in those purchases instead of requiring an item to work with most of the rest of what I've got. I'd like my investment in that area to look put together and stylish on vacations, but be versatile for mix and matching when away from home, so that I can pack from my closet without pre-trip panic shopping to get things that go together. Then I want to follow your lead and and have items that work for non-vacation summer lifestyle and events.

Funny thing is that I have a stomach virus and didn't leave the house at all today... By afternoon went to my close and found a favoite beaded seahorse top that i've had forever and saved for vacations and am wearing it as I sit here!!!
