How do you store your scarves?

Those with scarf collections, how do you store them? On hangers or hooks? In a drawer, folded? What do you find the best method to be? I am really enjoying my scarves this season and foresee myself developing a bit of a collection....

drawer folded, boxed if it came with box with boxes stacked on adjacent shelf. every few weeks i have a rummage in the drawer to refresh my memory.

also, i wash the scarves in the machine in a pillowcase on gentle and drip dry. even silk twill.

I hang my dressy silk scarves draped over a hanger in my closet; my wool scarves I fold, then roll up into a tube and lay these in a row in a dresser drawer

I have devoted the two drawers in me bedside table to my scarf collection. I roll 'em up so I cank see 'em all at a glance.

I have a couple of these "swing arm" pants hangers - I got them from Bed, Bath and Beyond:

I hang three or four scarves per "arm", and each arm swings outward so that I can easily select which item I'm after. This has worked well for scarf storage for me. I used to have scarves folded, in baskets or in drawers, but they always ended up in a jumble. I like the swing arm hangers much better.

I have them folded in boxes and stacked on a shelf in my accessory armoire. Yeah, I have a lot of scarves. In fairness, a huge number of them were inherited from my mom.

Silk scarves are drawn through the holes of a special plastic hanger and hung with my clothing. My husband uses these hangers for neckties also. My heavy scarves are hung in the coat closet on rubber coated open ended slacks hangers.

I have a big over the door rack on the back of one of my closet doors with lots of hooks that I hang most of my scarves (and belts) on. I like it because I can see all of them when I open the closet door. A couple of very heavy/bulky scarves get folded and placed in the bin containing my winter hats and gloves.

I'm bad with my scarves. The heavier scarves are hung on my coat rack and the lighter silkier scarves are stuffed in a bag. I need a better system since storage space is limited.

I tried using the swingy arm pants hangers, but that didn't work as well for me.. With the holey hanger, I just have to pull on the scarf to retrieve it. With the swingy arm hanger, you have to undo all the arms above the one you want, retrieve your scarf, and redo all the arms again. I do it wtih my jeans, but with scarves, they tended to always be in disarray.

I just started using the hangers that Queen Mum recommended. They are fantastic and my closet looks a lot neater than when I had the scarves piled onto regular hangers.

I have a basket on a shelf in my closet where they are all crumpled in. Probably not ideal as far as seeing what you have, but it works for my small collection.

Lighter weight scarves are folded and filed (similar to the method in the photo below) into a couple clear plastic shoe-box type boxes, heavier shawls are folded and hung on multi-leveled 'velvet' pants hangers. [The swing-arm version mentioned by Velvetychocolate would be even better].

I've been contemplating putting up a towel bar and draping the scarves over it; do any of you ladies have experience with that?

I have a mixture of heavier cotton and lighter silk scarves, and I worry that storing different weights all on the same hanger will cause the hanger to tip to one side.

charmain.. that is a really good idea, if you have the wall space. You could even hang a double towel bar...genius! And then you're thinking to loop each scarf with a slip knot around the bar?

I don't have a link to the product, but I picked up a flexible, holey scarf hanger at IKEA a while back (the holes are bigger than the one that Kim posted, and I think it has 20 or 24 holes?) I have a lot of hanging storage space in my closet right now so that method is most convenient, and it's better for me than keeping my scarves folded in boxes since they are all visible at the same time.

My inexpensive scarves are on the same Container store hanger that QM pointed at. My three precious cashmere/silk blend scarves are folded nicely and stacked in a drawer.

I keep my lighter weight/silk/chiffon scarves on a swing-arm coated "magazine rack" that I mounted on the wall of my closet. My heavier scarves and shawls are folded and stacked on an open shelf.

I have more room in my closet than I have clothes, so I just hang each scarf on a plastic hanger of it's own. I fold the out of season scarves and put them in a drawer (so my eyes get a break from looking at them--then they will seem *new* to me when the seasons change again).

I hang them in the closet with the skirt hangers from the dry cleaners. My hangers are black plastic with gentle clasp clips on either end. No marks on anything ever. I can easily see them and they don't get wrinkled. I easily can see and remove the one I wish to wear and once I am done, I simply hang it back.

What works best for me is to drape a scarf around the neck of a hanger with a jacket or cardigan on it. That way I can see them as I'm getting dressed. I'm very visually oriented and this has made choosing a scarf much easier for some reason. I also have a bin in my coat closer for heavier handknit scarves that I mostly wear as outerwear.
