How do you store scarves?

This may seem obvious but I have been unhappy with my scarf storage this winter. I'm talking about drapey, indoor scarves, not my heavy winter scarves. I have some hangers with slats that I pull them over and then I can see them easily, which is nice, but when I pull them off they are crumpled and sad looking, which is NOT nice. I'd love to hear what you all do.

I fold them and keep them in a wide drawer. They're stacked one on top of another in piles and I organize the piles by colour and in some cases by material.

I have some silly shallow drawers in my closet. So I fold my scarves, then roll them, and place them in one of these drawers. It's perfect... I can see them all, and they stay in pretty good unmussed shape.

Scarf storage just never seems easy. I have mine sort of folded/rolled and tucked into storage boxes that have compartments. The boxes sit on some cheap wire shelving inside an old armoire, so the boxes act like drawers.

What Janet said, and does. I have an identical system. Imperfect, but acceptable. I do sort them by season, too, and fold and store the out of season ones in another place. So it is just my winter wool and silk and other warmer indoor scarves in the box now.

My silk and lighter scarves are folded and placed in a shallow long drawer. My heavier scarves are draped over two long bars that runs the length of one wall in the walk in wardrobe. I have way too many scarves....

Folded and stacked in a cabinet over the bed in our RV. Totally unacceptable and impractical, but the best I've got for now. When we build, I've seen ideas on Pinterest that involve towel bars/curtain rods mounted to walls/backs of doors that you draped scarves over...

I'm currently using a curtain rod for necklace storage (pic of my actual setup attached) and once I have room to expand upon this idea I think it will be good for those lighter weight scarves as well. I'm loving it for jewelry storage, it keeps them from getting tangled, it keeps them very visible so I wear them more often, and it cost very little to do: I bought a $3 curtain rod and 2 packs of curtain rings with clips on them ($3/pack of 6). I'd probably go with just round shower curtain rings for my scarves rather than a clip that puts all the stress on one spot, but the clips are great for jewelry.

DH mounted two towel rods in my closet and I hang them on the rods. Similar to cynthiawalkersmith, except I just tie them on the rods - no curtain rings. I wish I was home so I could take a picture.

In my new Woman Cave I'm doing something similar to cynthiawalkersmith and Sara L.: I'll have a closet with dowels to drape or tie the scarves to. Similar to this but it will be hinged instead of pull out: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/.....C6WlF8r6k/

Thanks everyone! MsMary, I love that idea, sure wish I had room in my closet. I'm thinking the box idea could be best but I'll have to clear off some shelves. Sara, do they stay relatively unwrinkled on the rods?

When out of season, folded and put into a box inside a closet. When they come out to be used regularly, I roll and put them into a round metallic box (former cookies box:)) inside a drawer of the chest of drawers. This way they are easy to pull out/ put away.

For lighter scarves, I hang them on one of those flat velvet hangers (a regular clothing hanger) in a row on the bottom width of the hanger. I just loop them over once, no need to tie any sort of knot because they don't slip. I put the hanger right on the closet rod next to other clothes but if you had more room than I do the hanger could go on a hook somewhere else. I have two of them.

For heavier outdoor scarves, I have one of those cloth hanging shoe things you put over a closet rod, and I roll up the scarves and put them into the cubbyholes. I store knit hats and gloves the same way.

I also have a scarf drawer and keep the folded scarves in there. It's also a good way to keep me from buying too many, for a while I had a habit of collecting a lot of them. And they don't attract dust this way, like they do with open storage.

I have yet to figure out a good system for this - and I have a ton of scarves that never get worn because I can't see them and totally forget about them. Right now I am using Chris's system of hanging some of them over those velvet hangers, which then hang on a hook mounted (unfortunately ) on the outside of my closet door. Which of course makes them visible and looks crappy, but I have no-where else to hang them. I also bought one of those stacked circle hanger-things from Ikea but it is a dumb thing that requires a lot of closet space and still hides some of what is looped through the circles. I want a woman cave.

Marie Kondo was my inspiration for scarf-handling. I watched one of her folding videos on Youtube and ran with it. I have a boatload of scarves, and now they're all neatly stored an organized very efficiently in two small drawers.

When I owned a lot I used to roll them up and put them in a clear bin on a shelf so I could see them. Storing them on scarf hangers never seem to work for me, the scarves would be hard to get on and off without pulling a bunch at a time, and they would be really squished together.

I fold mine and store them in a basket that fits under my shoe cabinet. It works pretty well.

I roll mine up and keep them in their own drawer. I have used shoe boxes in the past too ( rolled up ). It keeps them looking great.

I've got mine hung over a scarf hanger - the ones from Ikea are the best because they are covered with a crotcheted material that keeps the scarves from sliding off, unlike the metal or plastic ones from BB&B etc.

The ones I wear with my coats are hung on the hangers with the coats. I don't have any other scarves, as I'm not a "scarf person."

The scarves I wear the most I fold and put on a shelf in my closet. The rest are hanging on pegs in my storage closet. It is not a great system because I end up forgetting about the ones in my storage closet.

Mine are folded and stored in an over the door shoe holder. They are easy to see, neat, and they don't wrinkle. It holds a lot of scarves!
