Holiday Edition: Flared Skirt

This will be the first outing of the skirt. And I have struggled with tops for this one. I finally decided on the off white floral tank with subtle sparkle. The tank is long and cannot be worn untucked. But tucking with my short waist is a challenge especially with a high waisted skirt and I am wondering if the proportions look alright here.

I am planning on wearing this for an afternoon Christmas party next week (yep for us Christmas is already here :D). Do you think this is afternoon party appropriate? Or should this be reserved for the evening? Which shoes do you prefer with this and which hose? Do you think the clutch is ok? I used a non sparkly one since its a day time party.

Neel - well girl you've been holding out on us!! Look what fab goodies are in your closet!! I think you look fabulous. I really like this outfit. Shoes are beautiful. I do like everything as is, but to answer your ?, you would get a longer visual line with the skirt if you had a black sparkly tank instead of the white. I also think this could be even more fabulous with either a little black cropped jacket (more skin coverage so afternoony) or a little black cropped cardigan +/- sparkle or beads. That would also allow the top to reference the black and white stripe theme of the bag but would tranistion the move to the skirt and would soften it. Also it would give you an outside column of color which would give you the longer vertical line. FWIT hope that helps. Love the shoes with the bag. Again, I think this is very fabulous and you will look great at the party!!

Neel, my preference would be #2. I like the low contrast between the oxfords and the hose. I also would be inclined to wear a darker top BUT you have dark hair and I think that will bookend the outfit and the white will provide the "pop" in the outfit.

Gryffin- You have a way with words! :). I don't think I have a cropped black cardigan or jacket I do have longer jackets and I could try a few over the skirt. Why did I always think white was better with this skirt?!! o_O.

Also I don't have a sparkly black top but I do have a non sparkly embroidered tank. It goes well with the skirt but I thought it would be too eveningy?!

Ooohhh Neel - the embroidered tank sounds lovely. I think there are a lot of ways to make this look more casual. Either flat black oxfords, ballet flats, or my favorite flat black bad girl booties with opaque tights and you could try a black cardi or jacket (do you have a tuxedo jacket?). The skirt is dressy because of the shape, short hem and gorgeous fabric. A more businessy jacket or cardi would make it more conservative (do an Angie with scrunch sleeves). Of course, I don't have a problem with being over dressed and I love this outfit but you have to feel comfortable and appropriate!!

Hmm ... I might have some time to play with my closet today (DH would be out with friends until late). I have a black leather jacket and a suit jacket (not tux). And a few black tops to play around with. Thanks for chiming back in gryffin :). I would try and post pics a little later today.

Neel: I am wondering how you would feel about doing a more neutral (in terms of pattern and shine) top? For example a laid back tee or oversized sweatshirt that is in a silky,modern fabrication. Or a turtleneck even like Angie did recently. Just a thought.

Sona your ideas sound super trendy and chic. But I seem to have none of those! Ack! A cropped black boxy tee would have been great right?

Turtle necks look horrendous on me (short neck and not very small boobs!). I do have a black turtle neck I could try but I doubt I would feel fab in it!

Hi Neel,
I actually like #5 - I think the sheer balances the sparkle of the skirt but would like it with the oxfords better - basically, would keep all other pieces as supporting acts for the skirt instead of standing out in any way on their own. Love how you paired the clutch with the entire outfit though!

Thank you vipanchi and Angie for chiming in. I still have some time to decide. So might play a bit more with my current wardrobe pieces and see if I could come up with a better outfit with the skirt as the base.
