Help me pick my puffer coat! - YouLookFab Forum

I am going to NYC next week and I want to be WARM! I ordered four puffer coats on sale from Lands End last week and they arrived today. They are probably not what I'd pick if I lived in a cold climate and wore puffer coats daily, but they were on sale and will be perfectly fine for a week in NYC and for whatever other occasions I have to need a down coat for the next, oh, 20 years or so!

I ordered two styles in two sizes and I need help deciding which one to keep!

1. Red, size small. This one is the most comfortable and I love the color. Downside is has only a zipper and no snaps, so you have to mess with the zipper each and every time. And the style is a little blah. But overall it's a good strong contender.

2. Same coat, size XS. The size small feels better and unless you all think the XS looks markedly better this one is probably going back.

3. Teal coat, size small. I love the color, the snaps in front, the big pockets. But it looks kind of huge.

4. Sapphire coat, size XS. Same style as the teal. Love the color, love the snaps, love the big pockets. Downside is it feels a tiny bit short-waisted and it's a little snug over the faux fur vest and blazer combo I was planning to wear to a Broadway show. And I'm not in love with the faux fur trim on the hood. Or the verra verra high neck when it's zipped all the way. But the color is fab and I feel like it has the best shape of the lot.

I'm thinking right now I'm kind of torn between 1 and 4. What say you ladies?

Bonus photo 5: I was cruising through Nordie's today and saw this amazing faux fur hat from Juicy Coture, just calling my name. What say you? Fun and warm or just ridiculous?

I prefer #4 for color and shape on you. Cute fur hat too!

I like the blue, Mary K. When you wear a puffer, you need some fur trim! Love the hat. Have a great trip.

looks like 2 is short in the sleeves. and I think I prefer the one with the hood. the dark blue seems best.

Okay, how about the teal without the self belt? (It has a hood as in photo 3 above, I just took it off so I could try it on with the hat and forgot to put it back on.)

I think I like #4. It doesn't photograph well though, so it is hard to judge, but I think it may also look more luxurious than #2 in real life for the same reason. Can we see it without the belt, or the belt worn a little looser?

I am torn between #3 and #4 - the teal/turquoise colour looks *beautiful* on you, and yet ...the darker blue looks just a tiny bit dressier or a teensy bit more glamourous somehow.

Tough, tough call imo. The colour in #3 is amazing on you, and #4 is a close second with your beautiful colouring.

I'm sort of leaning toward #4, but everytime I click on #3 I'm wowed by how fabulous the teal/turquoise looks on you.

Do you know what I mean about the two blues? The darker one is just a tiny bit more glamourous somehow, and yet the colour in #3 is *your* colour. If this weren't something you'd be wearing only on occasional trips to colder areas, I'd suggest keeping both, that's how tough it is to choose.

eta: what do you envision yourself wearing the puffer with? That might have some influence on choice of colour. For instance, if mostly blue jeans - then perhaps #3 is the way to go, but if pants/bottoms are going to be all kinds of different colours, then I think I like #4 best. Hope I'm not confusing you!

eta (again!) - I actually just asked my husband what he thought, and he immediately said, "I like the dark blue"

So I vote for #4.

I like #1 the best. Even though the colors in 3 and 4 are great, the belt placement is making you look a bit short-waisted.

And #4 with no belt. We may have a winner here.

ETA: And yet Velvetychocolate has a great point. The bottoms I'm packing are black, dark denim, dark gray, and mustard. Which would probably all be best with the teal or red, no?

I like #1 the best. It has the best overall shape and fit from what I can see. I don't care for either of the belted ones--even unbelted. I'm not a puffer expert though so I will defer to the majority : )

For those colors I'm still going with red. The blue and teal are both very nice colors but the sheen on the material makes them look off. Is it a velvety finish or is just the photograph?

The teal one is definitely shiny. That may be a deal-breaker for me. The darker one isn't quite that blue or quite that shiny in person, but I am all about the vacation photos looking good, so the way it photographs is important.

I wish Angie weren't so busy with Fashion Week! I may have to send up a flare anyway...

Maybe that's why Angie's puffer is black...most slimming color. Is Angie's black one similar in style to the red one?

On my computer, the sapphire color looks the best on you and flatters your hair color the most. The red on my screen is a bit too vibrant and orange and doesn't have as rich a feeling as the blue. Also, I feel like red is available every year, but the blues not so much. The cut of the blue jackets isn't a *10*, but I think they are better without the belt. However, without a thick underlayer, a belt probably makes them warmer.

Makrame, that one is GORGEOUS! Unfortunately, one of the first things I learned here at YLF is that I absolutely need petite sizes in outerwear! And I'm leaving at the crack of dawn Saturday morning so no more time to shop -- one of these is going to be it.

I know absolutely NOTHING about puffers, so I have no idea how they are supposed to fit - so . . . My opinion is based on NO KNOWLEDGE whatsoever. To me, the sapphire is just beautiful on you - rich and a great shade of blue for you. But, I think the red in #1 fits you better - however, the red is not near as good of a color for you as the sapphire. Geez, I sure hope Angie pipes up!

Black puffers are much easier to deal with.

OK, if it HAS to be one of these three then I'm voting for the red one for the best fit. Plus, the red is spunky like you!

Fortunately I don't have to deal with puffers on a regular basis. I just have to get through the NYC week and then the occasional "trip to the snow," as we say here in Lost Angeles.

Plus red will be spotted quickly in the sea of NY black...in case you are lost and sent out an SOS signal. : P
