Hands Up if you are an Urban Warrior Princess (UWP)

I'd like to know who resonates with the UWP style persona, and who does not resonate with it.

This is NOT a trick question and there is no right and wrong answer. We celebrate ALL styles on YLF, and you know that :).

I'm interested because there is a lot of "UWP talk" on this forum. I'm not sure if that's because the forum generally has a strong affiliation for the look, or it's because the same posters post a lot about the style which makes it seem that way.

I guess I am, but I am still trying to figure out which bits as I seem to differ slightly from Rae and Una's interpretations.

For me it is RATE, military, boots, dark or faded colours, canvas/wool, brass or base metal, studding, leather and buckles!

But, there is a vein of cyber/scifi/industrial that I want to explore more.

Maybe my jewelry and some shoes and belts are, if not all of my look! I think we decided something milder like suburban leiutenant duchess or some such lol.

EDIT: can't forget my love of hardware and cargo everything - pants, skirts, jackets, you name it!

I am just tickled pink (or maybe olive drab!) to see my own personal fantasy style descriptor has become part of the YLF lexicon. And that Rae, Ceit, and all the other UWPs have made it such an inspiring and inspired style. We all have our twist on it, but there are definite commonalities in my mind!

A love of boots is clearly mandatory. Gear-related hardware, be it studs, buckles, zippers, snaps, or chains. Military, rugged, futuristic (or alternately medieval - weapon of choice may be sword or lightsaber!), utilitarian, steampunk, sci-fi, industrial...

This Pinterest board is the ultimate height of what I think of as UWP, but of course, the beauty of style is that everyone can make it their own. Like Natalie and Mo do by incorporating small doses.

I am not a UWP, although I have a strange love of chunky footwear and all things Doc. I do think though that UWP is secretly the style I wish I was - I look at the Princesses on the forum and their kick butt outfits and only WISH I could be that cool!

I missed the " Suburban Lieutenant Duchess" descriptor, Malina. That's hilarious. You have a very romantic vibe to your look - ruffles, Grecian drape, softness, blush and your hair. I think you're a Grecian Warrior Queen.

My hand remains firmly down. I love seeing UWP on others - Una, Rae and Ceit all wear it so well - it's just not for me.

OK, I am NOT an UWP. I don't think I can pull it off and I don't end up selecting typical UWP pieces.

But there are elements of it that I'm drawn to for my casual looks to create just the slightest suggestion that there might be a little more ninja-sprite-don't -underestimate-me underneath the middle-aged tailored lady than meets the eye.

I definitely identify with the UWP aesthetic, although maybe it's not my primary style descriptor. I like RATE, stompy boots, hardware, metal cuffs, etc, and I like the juxtaposition of those things with more romantic, feminine things like florals, lace, and ruffles. I think my take on UWP is verging more on the steampunk/Victoriana side of things.

I often feel clueless when others are naming their style or trying to define their style. I have been here for a fair length of time and I see a lot of the UWP to be fairly militaristic. My cluelessness makes it hard to categorize my own style (it seems a tad schizophrenic is the closest I can get), but I have an affinity for boots and rarely wear anything else in winter. Many of my boots and indoor jackets have laces, grommets and zippers aplenty.

I think part of the look may be physical, i.e., a fit, strong and ready to take on anything that is thrown at her type of gal.

I am not a UWP but I am UWP-friendly.

I am more rock-style inspired with a foot equally in 80s downtown NYC and the other in 70s California... both eras which I lived through.

So someone like me, I'll call it Bi-Coastal Urban (BCU) -- it is not UWP but this style hangs out with and admires and has many UWP friends.

I am definitely NOT an UWP, but I was stunned to learn that a post I wrote was the birthplace for the acronym. I really thought that style descriptor predated my participation on the forum. Thanks for the shout-out Una!

I really, really, *desperately* want to be some kind of princess though. Someone once suggested "Modern Preppy Princess" for me, Jewell I think, and Vildy's "Off-Duty Princess" style sounds pretty good too, since I am fresh out of ball gowns.

Describes me, too. I have no idea what to call my style. Maybe -- ultimately? -- refined urban androgynous? Is that a weird opposite or a second cousin twice removed to UWP?

Don't ask me where "refined urban androgynous" came from. It just popped out.

I can't quite go UWP, although I LOVE the look on others. I don't like to have too much going on, so I can't quite get the UWP vibe. (Which is why I'm struggling with the Frye Veronicas so much!)

I love the look but wouldn't wear all the bells & whistles (or zips & studs if you will) but I do need the "urban" part in my style otherwise I don't feel right. For me it comes out in my love of leather jackets, boots & messenger type bags. It is also there in the androgynous/edgy clothing that I love.

The other thing I've noticed is I can't stand it when my hair is neat - I'm always messing it up; as my nod to RATE.

Maybe my inspirational style is refined urban elder.

If I were twenty years younger I would definitely give the UMP look a go. After all, I did the 60's cool go go style, the late 60's early 70's hippy thing. And the 80's big souldered corporate look.

Hmm, as a senior citizen, the "princess" is a bit of a stretch, and my stalking and striding has slowed down and is possible only if I forgo heels on my boots, so what does an UWP morph into when she reaches the middle of her sixth decade--DUW (Dowager Urban Warrior)?

Boots, pants, moto jackets, and hardware are still in my regular wardrobe rotation, so my wrinkly hand is sort of raised...

Definitely not UWP, I am probably the antithesis. I am not RATE at all, but I do like sleek, leather. boots and lots of black. I guess I could be a TIT (Trinity in Training). LOL
