final ezibuy: battle of the black "dresses"

So after posting pics of my too-long "tunic" yesterday I decided to try it on as a dress. Very timely, because I received the larger size black merino dress in the mail today that I had exchanged for. There's no way way I should keep both, I don't even know if I should keep either.

In the pics with stockings I am wearing these lurid purple stockings my mum gave me to try, in order to try and provide some contrast to the black dress, since the lighting is so poor (dark, rainy day). Are these tights too insane to wear, do you think?

#1 Black merino dress

I sized up from the original size I got sent, as it fit tight around the ribcage. This size is a perfect fit there, but is also longer. I'd need to get it shortened, right?

Pros:
- merino, warm, thicker ?more durable fabric
- dressier than the "tunic dress", could def. wear to work as a dress

Cons:
- feels scratchy
- dressier, so doesn't match my lifestyle as well
- is it a bit frumpy, or is that just the extra length? Pooches out over the tummy in the side view though, doesn't it?

Pros:
- soft fabric
- super comfy, feels just like a big tshirt

Cons:
- too short without superthick tights/leggings!! (I think I could get away with leggings to work)
- more casual which fits my lifestyle most of the time

Help me decide which/neither please!!!

I do already have other black dresses, so I don't want to keep these if they are not killer! Here's what I have already:
- knee length black jersey dress from Vietnam that I wear to work a lot
- sleevless sack dress that works for winter/summer and that I can layer for work as well and love the death (although the fabric is sadly starting to pill
- Esprit dress that I keep meaning to get the hem taken down on so I can start wearing (although looking at it its longer than the tunic is!)

I prefer no. 1 (the side view is lovely!) but you should hem it a bit! It's too long!

I like #1 better then #2 but I think you've got some lovely black dresses already. I'd put the money towards another color or print.

Thanks rute. You're definitely right about the length, I just need to decide whether to keep it or not now.

I'm thinking also that you seem to have a good collection of black dresses and while I like these both, none of them are wowing the socks off me. I like the first one best, but if you don't feel that you'll get much wear out of it I'd send it back.

#1 is itchy which will drive you crazy over the course of the day and #2 is too short to wear as a dress. If you really want a black dress (how about an eggplant instead?) then keep looking.

Vani I don't remember looking at a shirt dress on shabby apple. I do already have a red shirt dress (short-sleeved) that I wear to work only. I'd love to get a more casual style red dress, haven't seen one yet though!!!

Hello! Sorry I am coming into this a tad late. I just wanted to say that whilst the dresses are nice, I actually prefer the lbd's that you already own. Let me be crazy for a moment and say that I'd love to see you in a green dress. I know for a fact that you look absolutely stunning in green!!!! (Any news on your watch btw? I may have missed an update. I miss it!)

OK I think you guys have me sorted - thanks!!! It would be nice to have another black dress for work, because I fear my current one is getting a bit too ratty. However I want even my workwear to be clothes I love, and so far this isn't it. If I had to choose one of my black dresses to toss in order to keep this one, I wouldn't want to part with any of them!

A different black, or even green dress (great idea KP) hopefully lurks somewhere in the not to distance future though. In the meantime, I'll keep on looking!!!

Yay! Another Aussie!

I like the first dress when worn with the sheer tights and chestnut coloured boots rather than the flats. This is the kind of look I would love to rock!

The second dress looks great also looks good with the boots as it balances the look, and is also short enough to wear over the tights.

I too am shivering in the new cold weather and feeling sad about the grey weather but also excited about trying to look fun and fashionable in winter clothes!

Mmmm boots and dresses for winter is one happy thing to counteract the cold and darkness blues. I don't think this is *the* dress for me to do this, but I'm happy to have a reason to keep on looking!!!!

I'm in Canberra, so dreary and cold all round really! But...the beautiful autumn makes it worth it because of all the leaves turning (and the sheer number of trees in Canberra).

Have fun looking for another dress, I'm definitely going to try the skirt/boots combo this winter for a change!

Late to the party, but agree with everyone else: first dress is better of the two, but the ones you already own are better than the ezibuy ones. You'll need to replace your beloved existing dresses eventually, but as you say, it's worth waiting for something you love equally as well.

Good point stringy. I think one of my new rules is going to be that if I wouldn't swap out something similar I already have in order to make way for a new item, I don't love it enough to buy it in the first place!!

I prefer the dresses that you already have. I'm really loving your pilled sleeveless sack dress! Maybe start searching for a replacement?

I also would love to see you score a figure-flattering dress in an awesome color.

It did help lesley thanks. I don't know if I'll ever see a sack dress like this again, but I'm willing to keep looking. Otherwise I know my parents want to go back to Vietnam again, maybe at the end of this year, so I'll try and get it duplicated there if they do I think!!!
