Faux fur vest vs faux shearling vest

I think I already know the answer to this one, but I'd love to know what you all think! Angie, I'd especially like your input!

Yay = INC Macys faux fur trimmed vest
Nay = Hinge faux shearling vest

PS The fit of the shearling vest is not perfect, it's a little big. Also, it sheds. :-/

I have not styled these properly for the photos, but at least my magenta shirt provides contrast for the dark vests!

INC it is, for me. More versatile for the styling ideas Angie just blogged about, could still fit under a winter coat to be part of an indoor outfit, a bit more glam without being over the top, more figure flattering.

Oh dear, I am just pondering this dilemma myself. I have the same Hinge shearling vest and am wondering if I can get away with adding a faux fur vest or if that's too redundant. Where is it shedding from? I haven't noticed any shedding on mine, but I don't wear it that often. I would say if you wear both a lot, keep them both as they have very different vibes. They both look really good on you! But if the shedding bothers you, then maybe see if you can take the shearling one back if it's defective.

I haven't worn either of them yet. Both still have tags on, and the weather's been too warm here to consider it yet! However, I may have the opportunity this weekend, as it's going to cool off. Yay!

I do think the two styles are not necessarily redundant. The shearling is much sportier. I feel like the fur can be dressed up or down more successfully.

I think the shedding is lessening, as I've tried on the shearling vest a few times, I've noticed fewer pieces falling out. Maybe just a matter of the fact that it came straight from a plastic package in a box to my door, it never hung in a store.

Yeah, the shearling vest is more casual. It's kind of like a stylish version of my REI fleece jacket. I feel like I could wear it more often for my MOTG outings. The faux fur vest might be too fancy...I'm worried it might look like I'm trying to be too hard to be trendy. Hmmm...still pondering if there's room in my closet for a furry pet. What situations do you envision wearing the vest(s) in?

GP, as a bit of background, I'm not exactly a MOTG, but I share some of the "casual" concern of the MOTG lifestyle. I'm an artist (and now occasional radio announcer), so some days I'm very casual, out shooting photos in places like botanical gardens and junkyards and abandoned railroad cars... and then some days I'm working in my studio in a historic clock tower in downtown Baltimore. Some days I'm meeting with customers/clients, art buyers, or gallery reps, so I can do pretty much anything in the polished casual - artsy - eclectic range. I connect with a rock'n'roll vibe, while still trying to stay age appropriate for being 46.

I envision wearing this for casual and slightly dressier days when I plan to or may be running into other creatives and buyers, and for going out for dinner with friends, etc. I would like to have a vest that would work well with not only jeans and tops but also dresses and boots.

Well, with that additional background, and as much as I like the shearling vest, I think if you're going for artsy, rock & roll vibe then it's going to have to be the faux fur, if you can only keep one! I don't know how warm the fur vest is going to keep you, though. It looks like it's part fur and part something else? I like the shearling one because it's nice and warm and comfy.

I could certainly keep both. They both still have tags on, and even though I've done a lot of shopping lately, I haven't drained our checking account... yet. I'm just wondering if it's worth keeping both.

It sounds like the fur vest is more your style. It definitely makes more of a statement! So I would definitely keep that. The only question is whether there are occasions that you would want the shearling vest and the fur vest would be too dressed up. If not, just go with the fur and return the shearling! But if you decide to keep both, let me know and maybe I'll have an excuse to buy a fur vest too!

One other thing I just thought about--what is your environment...how dressed up are others around you? I already feel kind of dressed up in my shearling vest, I'm sure I'd feel even more out of place in fur (at least, it would take me a while to get used to it). What kind of persona are you trying to project? The first picture says to me: artsy, cool, rocker, sophisticated. The second picture says: still stylish but more friendly, down to earth, approachable.

I really like the fur vest. It's a good color and will look amazing with a variety of different outfits. The INC could work with your lifestyle as well. It is a little big, but you could make it work. Keep the first one for sure!

Janet, can I just tell you what a bad influence you are?
I took the plunge and am going to try to make room in my closet for both fur and shearling vests!
I just ordered this faux fur vest:

It's on sale at Nordstrom Rack (so happy Jonesy told me the Rack is online!).
I also ordered the matching dress which is also on sale. I tried both on at the Anniversary sale but I didn't buy them because I felt like they were too costumey ('70's boho). But now that I've gone through all these changes, I feel like I might have the confidence to pull it off so I'm giving them a second chance. Besides, how can I resist something called "Rockin' Natalie"?

The first one is so beautiful on you.
I'd say keep the shearling if you want a more casual vest for shooting photos in gardens, but definately keep the grey faux fur too because the fit is perfect and it's so good looking on you.
