Ok, I've been waiting to show you guys this outfit because it's one of my favourites for the season, and happens to illustrate my take on the essentials/statement dichotomy.

Tunic-length, cowl-neck sweaters are some of my key pieces for cooler weather in my neck of the woods. Since I'm too short-necked and busty for turtlenecks, the more relaxed version gives me the sort of coverage I need and feels like me at all times. So part of my loot includes two of these sweaters, one in black and one in red:

While at the same store (which also yielded the pleather jacket and most of my other loot), I came across a sleeveless dress in what Angie would likely call shocking pink. The fabric felt thick and substantial, and the silhouette practically had my name on it, so I succumbed to a purchase that, at first blush, doesn't seem too practical.

But wait! Angie taught us all how to layer *under* dresses! And this black cowl-neck sweater is fluid and fine-gauge enough to be supremely comfortable under the thicker, ponte-knit dress! And I have great booties for skirt/dress wear!

So, here are the two items paired together. Black textured tights, Robyn booties, Club Monaco clutch and gold earrings finish it off.

Am I nuts to feel good in this even before I've submitted it for YLF inspection?
