Last week JayS alerted us to the fact that Everlane was doing a home try-on promotion for new customers. I've always wanted to try their silk blouses but since I have so many fit issues with blouses in general I've never pulled the trigger. The home try-on was a great way to try things on with no commitment.

I found the site very well-designed and easy to use/order from. The shipping was amazingly fast (I ordered on Friday, got it on Monday) and the packaging was simple and nice. Not everything was available for the promotion (understandable as I imagine it's only things they have a decent stock of) and the colors were limited, mostly black, white, and grey.

These are the things I tried. Full disclosure, I am sending it ALL back, although I am considering ordering a couple things in a different color. Sorry the photos are bad, it was dark! Also note I am wearing a black, lace bra here so that's probably the bust area looks a little crinkly in some pictures.

1: black v-neck tee, size M. I don't really need any more tees but this one was nice. I'll consider Everlane when I need to restock on black tees. It was true to size (I also tried L - not pictured - and it was too big and sloppy.) The cotton was nice and it didn't cling or ride up at the bottom (a big issue for me). The V is borderline too low - you can see cleavage - but remember my upper body is VERY short.

2-3: silk round collar blouse, size L (grey, #2) and M (black, #3). Same problem I always have with blouses - I need to size up to not have the bottom button pull but then the top is a little too big. The chest did not pull on either size. Nevertheless I think the larger size is fine here because it's drapey and soft. The silk was nice and a good thickness; it's kind of a brushed silk, similar to equipment but thinner. I disliked this grey color on me but I might get it in a different color. For some reason the grey had a covered button placket and the black had exposed buttons. I personally prefer the exposed ones but that's just personal taste.

4-5: silk sleeveless blouse, size L (4) and M (5). They *both* pull at the bottom and the L is clearly too big in the armholes and shoulders. Too bad, because this was nice. The material is slightly silkier and less brushed than the long-sleeved blouse. My black bra doesn't actually show much, so you can get an idea of the silk thickness from that.

6: silk tank, size M. I liked this a lot except for the color. The hip is flared so no need to size up.

7: cashmere v neck sweater, size M. I don't need another cashmere sweater, but I ordered this to try just because I was curious about the quality of their cashmere. It was nice! The cashmere was soft and it was reasonably dense (which is good for durability as well as warmth). Not as nice as my old $$$$ Kinross sweater but much nicer than my cheap Uniqlo cashmere. I think it's a good value for $128. I thought this ran a little big/long and I'd probably size down if I were to buy it. I don't like my cashmere too oversized because it's so soft it looks sloppy easily.

I'm glad I tried this! I would definitely consider getting the silk shirt in the larger size and the silk tank if they came in colors I liked (unfortunately there are none right now). I don't need them right now, but the tee and cashmere sweater are nice too.
