Everlane, known for quality-made basics at a good price, is having a home try on promotion. You can order up to 10 items (think you must order at least 5) and they ship free and returns are free. You will need to enter credit card info, but they only charge for what you keep..no looking for credits on you card statement. The offerings are preselected from their best selling products..mostly tees, silk tanks and blouses, and cashmere sweaters. I ordered 10 items, duplicates in different sizes of several. Figured this would be a good time to figure out fit.

ETA: Just found out in my confirmation email that this promotion is for first time customers only. Guess it's directed at people like me who always wanted to order but never pulled the trigger.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up. I think I'm going to try this - I've been interested in their silk blouses for a while but have never pulled the trigger because I have a lot of fit issues with blouses.

what a great idea! wonderful way to get new people to try the brand. i must say, i've ordered from them 3 times, they ship really fast, returns are easy, and they credit your account really fast as well.

For anyone trying out Everlane for the first time: I LOVE this company. My Everlane ivory round collar silk blouse is in my top 5 favorite items-- beautiful silk, lovely drape, so soft. I also think their t-shirts are the perfect length, wear well and the whites aren't too see through!

For all of you who try this, please do report back in agonizing detail! I've heard mixed things about Everlane so would love to see some photos of their clothing on "real people". I live in Canada so am skeptical of trying the home try-on (these things never work for us Canadians) but am also hesitant to order Everlane clothing when I might just have to return it (and pay enormous shipping charges)...

Thanks for the notice! I keep looking at Everlane but never tried it so today I gave it a go. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have some tees from Everlane and found the sizing quite generous. Small person here (5'3" 115 so not teensy just small), and the S tees swim on me. The XS is OK, and they now offer an XXS (but don't list it on the size chart?!).

One good thing is they state what the model is wearing e.g. "model is 5'9" and wearing a small" (and it is roomy on her...) but this gives you an idea of the length on a not-5'9" person.

What I like: My tees (v-neck) have worn well, look fine. They're not magic, but better than paying $$ for, say, James Perse. The color palette (of most of their products other than black and white) tends to be hues that don't flatter me/make me look sallow. So: mixed for me. Can't wait to see your review.

I ordered a few things from them last year; I have mixed feelings. I might be interested in something like this but because they are reserving it for first timers only, they just lost me. Something like this would have given me a reason to give them another try, but now, I just feel discriminated against.

You just cannot assume that once you have someone once, that they're in.

Cocolion, agreed! I guess I missed out bc I bought DH tshirts, but never have tried anything for myself and have been considering stocking up for summer. They had me and lost me too. Other than that, I am curious what the bad experiences have been with everlane? Service? Quality?

doubleh -- I ordered three tee shirts. One I liked but it got a mysterious stain and hole. Not too upset over that as it was just $15. The other two, I'm not crazy about the style, not very flattering on me. I should have just returned them for something else.

I'm in food service, ex marketing career in entertainment. My opinion is, you take care of existing customers. That's why, I don't do Groupon type promos. The Groupon customer will not come back and pay double. They will go to the next place offering 50% off. I reward good customers -- flat percentage off discounts, free drinks, free desert. So that's just my marketing opinion. Eventually the new customers come because you're doing a good job. I'm not impatient. I don't have investors saying you need a bigger customer base.

Obviously they think that once you've ordered once, you will be a loyal customer. Which is great, if they have good retention. But what does it hurt to also reward existing customers. It reminds me of the cable or cell business, always offering a deal if you switch. Which turns us into a society of not loyal, constant switchers.

OK rant over. Should I write to them and tell them I disagree with their marketing policy? LOL.

By the way I noticed AYR has a similar try on promotion. I did not see a new customers only condition. I love their jeans! Excellent fit and comfort factor. I just don't need any more right now.

Coco Lion..I hear you. I was a little surprised when I found out it was new customers only. I wanted to get some stuff for my husband and sons as well. However, when you order, Everlane leads you through what is available. What you can order is limited..not everything offered on the site, only a few best sellers. I couldn't get a few things for me and a few things for DH. I had to chose womens or mens.
And, like you, I immediately thought of the cable and phone companies. They have no customer appreciation, so I am not at all loyal..I switch to whomever is offering the best deal.
That said, the Everlane promotion worked for me. I have looked at their web site several times but never pulled the trigger. Since they don't have a B&M presence, I've just been reluctant to experiment on my dime. With this promotion, I really like the fact that I'm not charged and then refunded. I get tired of chasing refunds.
Hopefully, this promotion is successful and Everlane decides to expand it.
I did notice that shipping is free for 2 items and exchanges are free. That is a better policy than a lot of online retailers.
And yes, by all means let them know that you disagree with the new customer only restrictions. If they get enough feedback, they might rethink their policy.

ETA: I guess I'm just an easy mark..just ordered from AYR. Never heard of them but I'm always in the market for some great denim!

I was so excited when I saw your post. Then I too realized it was for first time buyers only. This is a sad thing because in the past I bought tee shirts and I love them, but there were many other pieces I wanted to try but have been afraid to take the leap (silk blouses). As a second time buyer, I opted once again to skip the silks. Maybe some day .......

Perhaps there are other (better) promotions/deals for returning customers? I do think we should let Everlane know- and perhaps include a link to this thread.

sterling….i'd take the leap and try the silks. honestly, i've had nothing but good interaction with everlane. if you order 2 items, shipping is free and returns are free, so, to me, it seems risk free. order 2 colors or sizes, keep one or none, and your not out any shipping costs.

cocolion---i would send them a note with your feeling, they seem like they would be receptive to feed back….

Maybe a little more than they bargained for???
Even if they don't modify this promotion, I think this thread can provide valuable insight into their customers' (both new and established) thinking. Hopefully food for thought moving forward.
