Does this look sloppy? ETA: Should I toss the skirt?

This skirt sits low on the waist and messes with my leg line... attempting to belt over shirt, but not sure if I just look sloppy like this. The skirt is linen and the top is cotton, so both will wrinkle more, I'm sure...

ETA: Changed into #2, trying Angie's wrinkle-embracing suggestion to only have one wrinkly piece at a time.

ETA: Most of the suggestions to fix this outfit centered on summery tops and jackets... which it seems I don't have. Is there any way to style this skirt *without*:
- white shirts (my optic white shirts make the skirt look dirty)
- tucking (as I said, the skirt rides on hips)
- pastel tops (which look terrible on me)

I've added pics of my top/jacket wardrobe...

Not sure I'm loving the skirt. Do you have a knee length pencil skirt? I like the top with belt and the orange jacket though!

What a cool ombre skirt! I have some low waisted skirts and I'm convinced that this is the only way to wear them--untucked and belted over top. It's good that your shirt is medium contrast with the skirt, white or light blue (BB) might be even better. Or even a knit top. You don't look sloppy, just linen-y. It's the nature of the beast Great orange blazer and booties BTW!

Added another pic - two wrinkly items were too much for me... I'm hoping the sweater shows enough waist. I don't look the leggiest ever, but I really wanted to wear this orphaned skirt for the nature challenge!

I like the skirt and like it with the top and booties. I could easily be off on this, but I think the jacket is too big for this outfit and that makes the outfit look less than it could.

It's a great color, but those sleeves look too roomy (would scrunching them change that?) and your cute shape/waist definition is lost in it.

Another topper maybe? Or scrunch those sleeves?

We posted at the same time! I like the new top and it could handlt a belt if you wanted.

I still think you need to be careful wtih that jacket here though . . .

I like the skirt best in the pic #2. You look leggy enough to me with the cute booties being tonal with your legs!

I like the skirt. But the greyed-taupe of the top in #2 doesn't really seem to go with the tan booties.

Sorry I missed that you were doing the photo challenge, duh! I thing the body con sweater does a great job of showing your waist, even without a belt. Works for me!

Anna, I did change out of my yellower-tan booties remembering that you didn't like the tan/gray combo in another outfit. The cognac seemed better to me... hopefully it's better IRL.

MNsara, you are right about the jacket - especially because the skirt is linen, the jacket felt too heavy.

The skirt is really beautiiful - do embrace teh wrinkles. i like the simplicity of #2, but I think you could try a color on top - I'd just keep the shape simple since the yellow ombre is a bit of an attention grabber.

The skirt is gorgeous. I think the issue is with the complimentary pieces, which are really nice as well, just don't go as seamlessly. I think you will like this much better if you change the light brown top for a plain cream top, remove the belt, keep the orange jacket and replace the booties for a lighter shoe.

He he, everyone seems to have different ideas on this one :). I would keep the button down in the first look, but tuck it in, lose the belt and jacket, and go with something more cropped/fitted over the top if you want to add another layer. The skirt is so summery to me (light color and linen) that the sweater just doesn't work, and the jacket is too BF in silhouette to work effectively with the slightly a-line skirt. Just my two cents :)!

No my favorite look! I'm not sure if it's the color of the skirt that says summer and the knit says winter, not sure if it's the lenght.. Maybe with a yellow silk top and a navy jacket?

I think what's happening here is a clash of weights, textures, and colors. I think if 2 clash, then you get a cohesive look, but if all 3 won't party together, you get that itchy I-don't-think-this-works sensation.

You're adorable whatever you wear, can't wait to see how you style these pieces apart.

Hm, I wonder if I should just get rid of the skirt? I don't have a cream top, appropriate yellow top (mine is voluminous), navy jacket, or lighter shoes, lol! But I do hear you all about it being seasonally confused. And since the skirt is not meant to sit at the natural waist, tucking looks really silly.

At least I don't look messy...

No tossing. Try a white tee, jean jacket and flat sandals - even a pair of flip flops will work.(Angie - you are not seeing this).
This is a perfect summer skirt.
ETA: I just saw your post. The above could do for a dress down Friday summer look, providing you find a summer shoe that is office appropiate. What about peep toe pumps? Do you have any?

i like the look in #2. I think #1 might work if you lose the belt and have a more fitted, buttoned jacket, something with a defined waist rather than the more boyfriend style open blazer you are wearing.

I normally love gray and yellow and cream/white. I don't think this is bad but the sweater does seem heavy for the skirt.

I think of linen as a casual fabric in general . . . I like the idea of a cream tank with this and sandals for a summery look.

EDIT: Hmmm, would one of your citron tops work with this skirt's ombre effect or is it a different shade I can't quite tell on my monitor? No reason this couldn't be summer office appropriate.

I really like the skirt! But it needs a light Summery top - and not an Autumn looking piece of knitwear (light coloured linen knitwear would work). Perhaps something more cropped? I'd also like to see something tucked if you think the waistband can handle it.

The skirt actually is really nice on you and a top that is fitted *like* the one in #2 does go well to give the right silhouette. If you had maybe an orange fitted knit with 3/4 or shorter sleeves or maybe a green one...But if you don't want to build an outfit around a skirt you dont love, I don't blame you.
