Directly Inspired by Angie - YouLookFab Forum

I decided to try my hand at the bootcut trousers and flowy
top formula. I rooted around in my closet and dug up my GAP bootcut trousers in
navy. I dug up my SE Pettys since I’d paired them with the GAP bootcuts before.
I almost got stumped on the flowy top – I wanted an intense color in particular.
I was a little afraid it wouldn’t happen then BINGO I found it! Earlier this
year, I bought a lovely linen cobalt blue sweater from J. Crew. It’s flowy, and perfect for this
silhouette. I thought a white belt a la Angie would set off this tonal palette
and bookend the Pettys. Then to really give the Angie effect, I added a crisp
white shirt under the sweater.

Can I say I simply couldn’t wait to put this on?! I felt
like a kid waiting on the first day of school.

I love it. For a more fluid look you could omit the shirt and the belt and semi tuck the cobalt sweater next time: two looks in one ( a tiny capsule if you will)

Sona - Thanks for the tips unfortunately, this is as flowy as it gets for me. The belt is necessary. With such a large bust line plus volume on top I would look pregnant or shapeless without a defined waist somewhere. The shirt isn't as necessary but it's a little cool here and the shirt gives form to this boxy sweater to create the shape I want.

Suz - wiser words have never been spoken. I think I am truly begining to internalize that notion. It's like understanding something intellectually but not truly buying in until you experience it yourself. You are making me really consider that style can only be style when you bring yourself to it. That's why merely copying an outfit exactly sometimes doesn't work. You're so thought provoking!

K - I agree. It's hard to say what exactly Angie would have done but I was thinking of this outfit of Angie's when I pulled together my own outfit last night. I can't wear things exactly the way Angie does but I love her minimalism, use of color and contrast to create pow-factor in an outfit. When I combine her aesthetic with my own love of navy and white combinations (and more jewelry) -- this is what I get.

Thistle/Von - the booties were a perfect paring with this outfit since I do not own a white bootie and have a 15 minute walk from my train to work every day. I also did not want to call that much attention to my feet so the print works to dampen the flash of bright color. I think I'll try these with a gray pinstripe trouser and/or a black pinstripe trouser it will all depend on the hem whether it works out or not.

That color with the white collar is fabulous on you! I love people who can pop a collar and always think it adss a bit of sophistication. I admire it so much in others, but just had a discussion with my daughter today over thinking it doesn't match my personality and she wholeheartedly agreed.

Joy -- I work with a lot of tax accountants, generally no imagination. No comments except from DH who loved it.

Ornella - a cobalt top is an essential The white belt I agree freshens everything. I realized it was necessary to complete this look. I'd been on the hunt for one for awhile now. A low contrast belt just wouldn't cut it.

TraceyLiz - you bring up a great point, you really have to own the look if you're going top pop your collar (sometimes they have a mind of their own and you have to be comfortable with whatever they're doing).
