Hello all,

My time on YLF has been sporadic because I have been very busy dealing with all the pre-trip nonsense that accompanies leaving one's normal life and going on vacation. However, I am now ensconced in Canada (waves to anyone local) and managed to make it out to the Danier in Eaton Centre.

I did contact Danier via email and the very nice CSA discussed sizing with me and arranged for 6 (!) jackets to be sent to the store. Here's what I tried on.

1) Tried this one on in black but it was too small for me. Sizing up might have worked.
2) Tried this one on in blue and it looked ok but was a little long at 24"
3) Fit beautifully. Loved the color.
4) Fit beautifully. Same as #3 but more practical.
5) Fit ok but not as well as #3,#4,#7
6) Too long for me again at 23"
7) Tried this on in both the turquoise and the black. Fit beautifully and obviously I loved the color.

I discovered through this process that my perfect jacket torso length is 22". Also, I didn't need sleeve alterations on anything. There's nothing like trying on items in person to discover what works for you. I wish I had been able to spend more time in store (I had half an hour) because armed with my new knowledge, I found several more intriguing jackets online.

My decision came down to #3,#4 and both colors of #7. So which one do you think I picked?

I really hope you got the turquoise, so I can live vicariously through you. Can you tell I am still fuming a bit because of the mix-up that led to me being sent the pepto pink jacket instead of turquoise?

Sylvie, you are in Toronto right? I and Suz live in Kingston which is 2.5 hours drive from Toronto. May be you can join us for Eastern Ontario meetup ( the date hasn't been finalized). About the jackets, I would vote for #3 but does it fit in your wardrobe? Red goes with everything.

So glad you had success!! The jackets are all so gorgeous - and you only had 30 minutes - talk about stress!! But good stress!!!

@Diana: I just looked up your thread and I am so sorry about your leather jacket mixup. Would you want to try hunting down the Danier turquoise jacket? As a fellow petite, I think it would be stunning on you.

@Rae: Yes, it was really very sweet of the CSA to make sure all that jackets where there and being held. There were little tags on them that had my name, the date, and a note to not put them out on the store floor. I could really get used to shopping this way.

@Deborah: A worthy guess! The turquoise was so beautiful and unique.

@Mona: I do love the color red. Unfortunately I'm no longer in Toronto - I was just there overnight because I flew into Pearson and I'll be there again next weekend before flying out. It would have been SO cool to get to go to a YLF meetup. I hope you all have a fantastic time hanging out.

@Merwoman: Thank you so much for your help on my earlier thread. I'm sorry that I couldn't even consider meeting you and other people in Toronto. As you might surmise, I was on a really tight schedule.

@JR: This is my first leather jacket too and I'm not really sure how it's going to work for me. I'm hoping that it will end up being as versatile as the very first blazer I added to my wardrobe last January.

@Suz: You are a very wise woman.

@lyn: So much love for turquoise! I admit that I will probably never see that shade again.

@Jem: I wish I could have. Alas, since it was my first ever jacket purchase, I had to only pick one.

At least one person on this thread has their solution button clicked. I'll go take a photo for the "reveal" as soon as I can.

This particular turquoise jacket won't work for me, sadly, because I can't do the collarless scuba style. I need lapels and/or a lower neckline. But it is an absolutely gorgeous color... I'm going to go peruse the Danier site to see if they make anything else in that color!

I'm so glad that your Danier experience was such a positive one Sylvie. I do find their customer service to be stellar.

As for which one(s) you picked, I'm thinking you went with the black for versatility AND maybe a second one in colour.

Here it is!

I was drawn to the red color but I didn't like the "hand burnished" finish on it because there were grey/black tones. The husband really disliked the black version of #7 because of the collar.

It came down to the turquoise (#7) and black (#4). The turquoise was a truly unique color but I didn't know how useful it would be. Black was a practical choice for a first jacket but then I could probably find a black jacket anywhere and perhaps I should go for something more "special". I have a habit of investing in special items but skimping on the basics. This is why I still don't have a pair of tall flat black boots even though I could really use them.

My husband convinced me to be sensible and go with the black. The crinkles at the back worry me, but the salesperson told me that the fit was right and leather jackets typically loosen up over time. It does pass my "walk outside the house test" and there is a two way zipper so I can give myself more space around the hips if I need it.

So what do you think of the jacket and the fit? I can swing by the store on the way home and return it if you don't think it works. The jacket has to be a 9-10 or fairly close to killer.

I really like it based on Angie's front view beliefs! If the back loosens up, I think it will be perfection. Glad I only just saw this thread or the suspense would have driven me crazy. Black is a good choice, and I'd consider this jacket a "statement basic", which is what I look for in items now.

I think the fit is perfect Sylvie - the leather will loosen up and the wrinkles will diminish. I speak from experience! The shoulder fit is fabulous and the sleeve length is great. I love this on you!

Love it! I just read this thread from the top, and I was hoping for #4 in black. I'm with your husband; something bugged me about the buckle at the collar on #7. And a leather biker jacket should definitely be black, especially with your black hair. Save the bright colours for tops and pants!

I have a Danier leather coat that I have worn for years -- it does soften up and loosen up with wear. I think you made the right size choice. You look fantastic.

It looks fantastic! I didn't realize this was your first leather jacket - in that case, it should definitely be black. (I am only looking at colors because I already have black and cognac!) The tight bits should loosen up and conform nicely.

Just want to clarify quickly - Diana's jacket mixup was not with Danier but with a different vendor.

Thank you for getting the jackets sent to the store - it really made it easy for me to shop when I had very little time. I look forward to enjoying my new jacket for many years to come.

AG: Thank you for calling it a statement basic. I'm always drawn to the crazy pieces and then feel a bit of a letdown whenever I have to be practical.

Elisabeth: He thought it looked like a dog collar. *shrug* Thank you for your reassurance and I'm glad to hear another person confirm the fit.

Diana: I think you would really enjoy this jacket in the Bordeaux. It's #5 in my original post. Thanks for the reassurance about choosing black.
