Danier in Toronto: Help me plan/shop/figure out sizing

I will be in Canada in a few weeks and I may be able to stop by a Danier store in Toronto.

Location: Which one of their locations tends to have the best stock?

Availability:
I've found a bunch of jackets online that I think are gorgeous (and on sale) but would I be likely to find them in stock in the store? Also, if an item is on sale now, is it temporary (like the US) or is the price cut permanent (like Europe)?

Sizing: I normally wear a 6P, am shortwaisted and have generous hips. Would I end up in an XS or S? Does the company provide measurements via email?

If anyone has seen any of these jackets in person and can advise on whether they run small/large/would fit a shortwaisted person, I'd appreciate the opinion. Or if you just want to provide feedback without seeing them, I'd appreciate those opinions too

What would you suggest would be the optimal shopping strategy? I'm assuming that if I go to the store on the first day I'm there and find something I like, I can get sleeves shortened, etc and pick it up a week later before I leave. If I could narrow it down to 1-3 choices, I could get them shipped to a friend's house but I don't think she'd appreciate having a gigantic box of jackets show up on her doorstep.

Hi Sylvie,
I don't live in Toronto now, but I've lived in Toronto before and it's probably worth determining what location is closest to a friend's house or to where you are staying. From what I remember, these stores are not necessarily close to each other and it might be a challenge getting to more than one to check out stock.

I would pick a location and call the store in advance to see if they have stock in what you are interested in. We have a few locations here in Ottawa, but they definitely differ in size, so the variety of jackets available definitely depends on the size of the store. For example, the store in the mall closest to me is quite small and only carries current season stock, but the outlet store by my mom's house is quite large and has tons of variety, both current and past collections.

I bought a moto style jacket there a few years ago and they did the alterations in store and called me back about a week to 10 days later to pick it up. You should also be able to get away with the Small - again, it's worth a phone call to whatever location you plan on going to.

I would say you would be an XS in most jackets, and a S in some others. I tried the one - the brown moto with the buckles at the waist in S and it was too big in the shoulders on me. I am usually an 8 on top.

Figure out which locations are near to where you will be and call for sure. The outlet stores have much different stock than the regular stores. The ones shown are Toronto proper, but there are also stores in Etobicoke, Ajax etc.

The Eaton Centre will most likely be a large store, as that is right in the main mall downtown. Otherwise, I would have said Yorkdale, but it looks like it is closed for renos!

Sylvie - there is a special sale at Danier on from Aug 13-24. I have an email with a barcode (for new fall merchandise) - I'll try to send it to you...and anyone else who needs it.

I was in the Ajax location Danier Factory Outlet on the weekend. It had been recently renovated. Sales assistants are very helpful - also told me more ( new) merchandise would be arriving over the next few weeks. The Factory outlets contain new and older merchandise, while store locations inside malls typically contain current items only.
Sizing - I found the jackets fit smallish. I take an XS - am broad across the shoulders. Leathers are soo soft and supple...

I would definitely call beforehand - not all Danier locations carry the same stock and in fact some of the jackets on the website may not be in stores at all yet. Also note that Danier does not make petite sizes so in some jackets, the torso may be too long on you, as is the case sometimes with me. I find their sizing pretty accurate - I wear the same size Danier jacket as I do Gap blazer, if that helps.

Krista: I'm only going to have time to get to one store and duh, I should have just checked to see which one is closest. It looks like the Eaton center store will be the most convenient for me.

Merwoman: Thank you for the coupon. I just realized that I'm arriving in Toronto the day after it expires. Boo! I will definitely call a store beforehand and see if can pre-purchase/put something on hold at the sale price.

Shannon: I never would have considered Danier if it wasn't for you, my fellow petite. It definitely helps to know that the sizing is the same for you as in Gap.

I will call beforehand and see if I can get info on what's in stock in various stores. But if I can't get good information, I'll just head down to the Eaton center, try some stuff on and see if serendipity strikes. It's not like I *have* to buy something and at least I'll have a better idea of my size for future online purchases.
