I love data analyses. A year ago someone on YLF sent me her spreadsheet for charting clothing expenditures. I continue to use it to this day and found it an invaluable tool.
I discovered which items I spend a lot of money on, but wear so often that cost per wear is extremely low. I now give myself permission to purchase those types of items regardless of the cost. I know in the long run, it will work out in my favor.
On the the flip side, I also know which items I buy and rarely wear. I use the spreadsheet to make myself understand that I just don't need those types of items anymore. I also discovered that buying multiples is not in my best interest. This is something I never would have guessed if I did not have actual data. For example, you would think multiples of tee shirts and white blouses would pay off in the long run. It doesn't, in my case. I was genuinely surprised at that result.
