Okay, here's my take on the Chanel-inspired outfit formula. This is a pretty literal interpretation except that I don't own (and don't plan to buy) a crossbody bag with a chain strap.

The first outfit was from this past weekend, going out to dinner with family, while the second outfit was what I wore to today. (The hat was only worn for commuting.)

I could totally see myself embracing this formula on a regular basis. The small touches - pearl stud earrings, silk floral brooches, and my favorite asymmetrical blazer - present a great way to make me feel more at home (and slightly dressy) in my jeans.

Sorry, Michelle! I usually add at least basic descriptions but fell off the wagon this time. Thanks for keeping me on the ball, and I'm sorry for initially leaving you out!

I wore this outfit with two different pairs of jeans: medium rinse straight leg (Gap Real Straight) jeans and dark bootcut (Jag Jeans - Lucy cut) with beige and black patent Me Too Swann flats - the toe and heel are tipped with black patent leather. The top is a rayon navy and white thin-striped Michael Kors top with an asymmetrical neckline - it's from the YLF store a while back. The blazer is black and has large, floppy lapels and an asymmetrical zipper - Halogen from Nordstrom - and I rolled up the sleeves several times so they would stay in place scrunched to my elbows. Handbag is a dark purple Franco Sarto crossbody style. I wore the outfit with two different floral brooches, one of which is small and is made of white silk, and the other is oversized, black, and has white polka dots. I also wore my white plastic boyfriend watch and white pearl stud earrings.
And I topped it off with a gray felt cloche hat with black stitching. The brim of the hat is turned up on one side and held in place with a buckle, so it's pretty asymmetrical as well.

You've already got the basics for a Chanel-inspired outfit with your boyfriend blazer and your zipper brooch. I can't remember if you have a striped shirt, but I'm actually tempted to play up this combination with other non-striped shirts - for example, one that is black and white and has a pattern of small, abstract-shaped dots. I could also see you wearing a somewhat inspired outfit with a black top and your black and white abstract-patterned scarf.

I have so many components of this outfit, all but the black and white shoes, and I'm thinking of getting the pair Angie featured in the original post. I have a black and white diagonal-striped top, a black knit boyfriend blazer (I want a nicer one, but this will do), a black and white silk floral pin (as well as the zipper one), and even the black chain-strap crossbody bag. Until I get the *exact* ballet flats, I can break out my pewter snake dkny ones. Great idea about the scarf, too...thank you!

So cute, Kari! I wish I'd bought that Michael Kors shirt but am inspired to copy with a narrow stripe I own. To those who are looking for a flower pin: I finally found a flower I like... at Nordstroms. It's a black leather poppy shape from a narrow headband. I removed the flower to pin on my jacket and love it so much I want one in a different color. I don't see it on their website.

DebbieK, the polka dot flower pin that I posted here is from Anthropologie, and I think it is still available.

Joy, very clever! I'll have to keep that in mind if I don't find what I'm looking for in the non-hair accessories section.
